What if the cat has two souls in it? Vermin and Mr. Lovat. Maybe when Mr. Lovat got older he went back into the Other World to confront the Beldam knowing that no matter what she would keep trying to get the children. He dies there and somehow possessed Vermin who was maybe near him when he died. This could lead to a battle of Vermin and Lovat in the body which could explain the cat’s strange behavior. At times Lovat will gain control of the cat vessel while at others Vermin would. I don’t know this is just a slight crack theory due to seeing the cat shake his head. But, hey, maybe it could explain why it is so blurry to tell them apart. Otherwise, another great Coraline theory video!

Is it possible that the Beldam and Coraline are related? I know you've mentioned this before, and discarded it, but think about it. Perhaps that's why the mother chose that place, of all places, to live. Because it had been previously owned by her family. Plus, when the beldam returns to her natural appearance, she still looks strikingly similar to Coraline. Is it possible that the beldam lived in that home with her family, and when she disappeared, her family left the pink palace? Perhaps that's why Whyborn's grandmother allowed Coraline and her family to move there despite having a child - because of her families ties. And when you talked about the mother being very cautious about Coraline being home alone, and knowing the button key was the key to the trapdoor, maybe she knew of the houses history? I dunno, it's just an idea.

I looked it up the apparently the reason The grandmother let Coraline’s family live there despite having a child is because Somehow, the grandmother also learned of the use of the doll, which spy on the Other Mother's newest victim. Therefore, she allowed Coraline and her family to move in when the doll was safely in the trunk back at home, thus, the Other Mother could not spy on Coraline and create a world around her. But obviously Wybie gave the doll to Coraline which is why the grandmother went all angry on Wybie because now the Beldam could spy on Coraline

Hey! So, The story of Lamia from Greek mythology actually creepily matches your theory for the beldams Origin. After Lamias children were destroyed she became a child eating monster, unable to sleep she was granted removable eyes. If the bedlam did take inspiration from this myth it would explain why she seems to only gain sustenance from children, and perhaps confirm the theory that she was once a human? Just a thought!

This is silly. But I made a story. In the 1800s a rich 42 person moves into a house. Then she fell into a very deep well. When she stopped falling she found a white place with no way out. So she put buttons in her eyes and she became the villain of the movie the bedlam. A new family moved in 1851 the kid went into a weird doorway. You know how when Coraline walks with the cat in the other world, she see's how some of the world is "unused" and is just plain white and pixels and is missing the well. What if the Beldam made it like that so Coraline would not realize she uses or transports magic through the well. That is why it is not there, not that she would not be unimpressed but so she would not find out it is one of her (and her sons) many tools to make contact with the real world.

Hey, so I rewatched Coraline yesterday in wake of your theory, and I've had the Other Father's song stuck in my head all day. I noticed something in one of the lines that may help the theory that she never really left the other world. (And I may be misquoting slightly, so don't hate me if I'm wrong.) "She's as cute as a button on the eyes of everyone who's laid their eyes on Coraline." Now, obviously "cute as a button" is a saying, but what if the line is a double entendre? What if everyone who's laid their eyes on her (ie. everyone she knows) have buttons in their eyes? Not literally, figuratively. As in, they're all minions of The Beldam. She even makes sure to invite everyone from the Other World to the garden party. The old chicks whose names I don't remember, Bobinski, her parents, Wybie, everyone. I don't know, just a thought. Also , a thought i have. The other mother captured many other children , and we all know how she tricked coraline , by looking almost exactly like her real mother. Which means to capture the other children i'm pretty sure she had to look exactly like their mothers (which i tried countless times to imagine her looking like other people) but it makes sense. She once looked like everyone's mother , which would explain why you only see her needles hands in the very beginning of the movie, she had just faded away from looking like Mrs. Lovat's mom, which is creepy. I think that the cat let Coraline drop the key into the well because he was sided with the beldam the whole time. When the key is dropped into the other world that gives the beldam access to the real world. That also explains why the trees are suddenly blooming. The beldam wants the real world feel nice so then she can make a huge comeback! Just my theory lol.

I believe the reason that it looks like there is a ceiling next to the spider web is because possibly the creators of Coraline used a white flat surface for the white background for filming that scene. However, I’m not entirely sure this is true, and I do like the theory that it is possibly a ceiling.

That's what they did, but the thing is... They have the option to remove it visually. They removed tons of strings and lines with FX, but they specifically chose to keep the shading, which is why I brought this up.

When Coraline and the cat were walking into the empty part of the other world I think it was Vermin who was with Coraline because when they were talking he said “or maybe she just lives something to eat” so maybe vermin already new about the Beldams plan and he was helping the Beldam

Why did the grandmother let the Jones move in when she never lets kids move there and knowing coraline was a kid?? Like I know they had there own doll but how did she and how did they not remember??

Could be that each spirt is trap in 1 world so once they walk through they switch... but due to coralline and her defiance the magic became corrupt leaving the door open for the other mothers dead son to pass through as well. My theory is that Mr lovat and vermin are both in the cats body,but each of them are fighting for control,like 2 spirits in 1 body But vermin's spirit becomes stronger in the other world because the magic of the other world that binds him to the cat becomes stronger,and Mr lovat's spirit is stronger in the real world because he was the spirit that was in the body first and also maybe the only reason vermin's there is because the magic binds his spirit to the cat and he can't go too far away from anything with magic of the other world seeping out of it while in control and that's why we only see vermin in control at the house and the well,so he trys to please the beldam in the hope she'll let his spirit move on Edit: oh I just watched part 11 xD pretty much what I said

I have an interesting thought what if they never rent out the room because it's the pocket universe. That's why it was bricked up it's part of the house. It's not under it at all its the house the whole time. It's a mix of your 4th dimension theory and why they don't rent the room and the space in the wall lines up with the unrented room. This sounds really far fetched but what if the other mothers looking for a new ruler for the world here's my proof in the book it says " do you even have a mother, of course I do I beard her and when she tried to crawl back out i put her back" maybe meaning there was a Beldam before the other mother maybe the portals can move around ? My second amount of evidence is that the ghost children in the movie say "she gave us everything yet we want more" implying that they were to greedy to rule similar things have happened in narnia the lion gives the throne to kids and they rule and in Alice in wonderland she goes through a portal abselem acting as her "cat" and at the end of the second movie the white queen says we could rule together I don't know I was always confused about those lines

If the magic of the other world is seeping into the real world could that mean if enough of the other worlds magic seeps through maybe the belldam could escape the other world. I think the beldam is using the eyes/souls to not only keep herself alive, but perhaps waiting for an opportunity to escape by forcing enough magic into real world to sustain herself in the real world.

What if the cat is both Mr. lovat & vermin? what if that's the curse! in the real world he's vermin , a normal cat who knows what is going on from previous memories that Mr. Lovat has , and when going to the other world he gets triggered into changing into Mr lovat ! which would explain why vermin can't speak but also why they seem to be the same cat in the sense where they have the same behavior and share the same memories! if you remember when coraline was going to hide the key and the cat stopped her. it was vermin because that's the cat that was originally in the real world , but it's also Mr. Lovat , who just came back from the other world with her and knows exactly what's going on. It's the only thing that explains how vermin has any knowlege of the situation. They're the same cat , but two spirits sharing the same body.
