I know the book and the movie are two separate universes, but in the book, when Coraline asks the other mother if her own mother had a grave, she says "I put her in there myself. And when I found her trying to crawl out, I put her back.”. That always struck me as similar to what happened when Coraline tries to trap her in the other world, her hand escapes, and Coraline tricks it into falling down the hole.

The other world doesent begin to deteriorate until Coraline stops being happy and trusting of the other mother, so I belive she's already feeding on Coraline's emotions to empower herself. With this logic it makes sense for her to keep Coraline as happy as posible as long as she can, and the acceptance of the button eyes might be a simbolical thing, because it represents that the children are now part of that world, they fit in, and are accepting the beldam as their "real" mother, I belive that after this they are simply unable to leave, it becomes imposible and they loose the power to rebel against her wishes, that's why they need Coraline to save them, and only after she colected their eyes can they act against the other mother (in benefit of she who poseses their eyes) eventually all of the ghost children regreted their desition to agree to the beldam's offer, they were no longer happy and didn't provide her with positive emotions to feed on, and so she let them die.

Something I realised, at the start of the film, the garden looked like a creepy skeleton, which can represent how the Beldame is close to death hence the "I'll die without you" bit when Coraline runs away from the Beldame through the tunnel. When Coraline is in the other world, the garden looks like Coraline, which could represent the despiration and focus on Coraline. Also, in gardens u can grow food - which u need to live- so this shows how the Beldame needs to eat Coraline to survive. And at the end, the garden looks like a skeleton covered in tulips, and Coraline loves tulips, which shows how Coraline knows she's in the limbo pink Palace, and is trying to distract herself from it and cover it with things the likes as she doesn't want to go through the Beldame true form again

I have a theory: the beldam was a human. Way before she had button eyes she had human eyes. Than, one day she fell in a well that is the main portal to the other world. She died than had button eye and became the beldam. She needs something to feed off of and chooses kids. She makes dolls and sends them to the real world. Once the kids were happy 😃 she given buttons into the eyes. This is where coraline comes into the secne she said no because she did not want buttons for eyes.

I heard another film theorist point out that the “Other Mother” isn’t really capable of really making human eyes, since the eyes don’t move or don’t even look “realistic” in comparison to the Real Peoples Eyes in the move. She’s only capable of making the illusion of “Button Eyes”, but they “blind her” since those “human eyes” don’t work since she has no soul.

Theory: I think that the beldam doesnt control the other world but coralines emotions are in control. Because when she's happy the world and mother are everything she ever wanted, but when coraline learns the truth the world starts To get dark and gloomy. I also think this because with every step coraline takes she gets closer to her escape and the closer she gets to her escape the faster the world starts to die, meaning coraline was thinking of escaping and leaving the world forever. But when coraline lost the triangle and the ghost eye, the world stopped dieing because coraline lost her hope and her plan of escape, and after that when the cat gives her the last ghost eye, the world completely died and ripped itself apart because coraline accomplished her mission of escape,

This makes sense, because, yes the "other mother" /beldam dies, or maybe she didn't cause at the end from when you said, the cat is only sopposed disappear in the other world. And, the garden looks like other mother. And, in the other world had coraline it makes sense right. She has been doing this for years you never know she could have not wore button eyes before. And, she could have been a human to before she became the beldam and what if the children are the beldams like the minions and, disgused as kids. So... Makes kinda sense so there for if there is coraline going to become the next beldem in coraline 2, yes she is.

Then Huck Finn killed Grandma's Sister, so she became next Beldam, Huck Finn's ghost was free. The Coraline's Other Mother is a child who was killed by Grandma's Sister... I've been following your Coraline theories for quite a long time.. and I love all of them and I agree with you most of the times.. I don't know if you've already said it somewhere.. I think we can be quite sure that the Well is another passage to the Other World (or the Real World, depending on the perspective).. I watched the movie for the second time today and the ending scene with the kids throwing the thing in the Well (trying to avoid spoilers..).. you know what I'm talking about! Well, as the thing falls down the Well you can see its (of the Well) stone walls running deep down and they look exactly like the walls of the secret passage once Coraline finds out the truth about the Other Mother's true intentions.. old, grey, almost stone - like.. What do you make of the way the ghost children talk before coraline finds their eyes and frees their souls? They talk very slowly and eerily as though they are being controlled... Also they still have buttons for eyes until they appear to coraline later on in the movie as angels when they have ordinary eyes and talk at a normal pace and tone ... I think the reason she uses button eyes is to make it easier for the kids to distinguish the real world from the fake, so that when the bedlam traps coralline in the pink palace limbo, she can use real eyes to imitate the real Mel Jones so that she can trick coralline into thinking it is the real world

I think the idea of the button eyes is to save energy. I think the other mother feeds off of happiness, that’s why she works so hard to make them happy. If the children give up their eyes, she won’t have to work as hard on making the world look so amazing because they won’t be able to see. They can play and have all their fun without seeing how the world around them really is, and the other mother can feed off that joy until theres no life left in that kid.

I'm definitely intrigued, but I'm gonna have to do some thinking about this one because I still just absolutely love your main theory, the one discussed in the Core Theory video. My guess is that Mel gave her eyes to the Beldam to protect Coraline. My theory is that the Beldam opened the door and showed them that Coraline didn’t tell them a story. The Beldam made a copy of Coraline who screamed for help and without a second thought they rushed to save their daughter’s life and got trapped. Maybe the Beldam said that she would let Coraline go if they follow her orders and Mel would give her her eyes. Later she gave them back to Mel because she needed the eyes no more. In my theory the cat watched the parents get trapped and heard the deal and that is why he knew that the parents are in the mirror.

What a scary concept, honestly just imagine... Maybe through sowing on the button eyes the power and magic is transferred over to the children? Or they already have power and magic in form of their soul and the buttons basically are a gateway to get access to that power and by sowing them on they become that magical beldame. I love your theories but there is one scene that doesn't sit right: the Beldam's forced positivity message to the other Wybee isn't necessary (I'm talking after the theatre scene), Coraline isn't watching her at the time. My counter theory around this idea; Coraline is already The Beldam at the end of the movie. Coraline getting what's presented as a happy ending is a power all baby beldams have, ie the subconscience is creating it. For now the other world is able to feed off that energy, but once Coraline realises "I'm the Beldam" victums will be needed so the other world can be held back from releasing it's evil magic on the real world. The ghost children are alive, twisted into the other Wybee, the other father, and the cat. They work for the monster that is the other world but have no loyalty to the Beldam, them helping Coraline against the Beldam is simply them realising a more benevolant Beldam will give them more power. The Beldam's true form is the robotic hand, she didn't want Coraline throwing the key down the well because she knows the monster that is the other world will consume her because she was outsmarted and thus can no longer bring in victums. But one day, Coraline will die the same grusome death when a victum ultimately escapes or turns angry they can't bring their friends to this amazing world and fights Coraline. But being a benevelant beldam, Coraline should at least live another thousand years as the "victums" given a reason to fight would be few and far between.

I want to give you /my/ perspective on the Other Mother having human eyes. I don't think The Other Mother can SEE out of human eyes and that they're more like tabs on her button eyes, which is implied that she sees out of the buttons (all buttons, obviously). \ Because when the cat tears out her buttons she seems to lose all her visibility. Not being able to see what's in front of her face, or in the perspective of anything else with buttons, and has to track Coraline using vibrations and sounds.

The other mother only used button eyes to make her plan more efficient, coralline would be suspicious if the beldam ddint use button eyes. Coralline only believes she’s in her own world is because her mother has her normal eyes and not button eyes. Where as if the beldam ddint use button eyes than coralline would be suspicious cuz she couldn’t tell who would be who! The buttons just makes it easier for the beldam, (sorry if that doesn’t make sense) she only gave the button eyes to coralline was to gain her trust almost like a test and see if she would do it or not, my theory is that if she did take the button eyes the beldam would gain her trust and idk the rest but yeah that’s what I’m thinking

Y’all what if the Beldam is using the other children’s spirits to power her creations? (Mostly her creations that represent real people. Ex: Wybie) Those pictures we see depicting different children, might just be what’s helping her. The fact that Coraline was the first child she’d had since 1960, probably means that the Beldam was incredibly weak and desperate, unable to carry out her plans as precisely as she use to. Before Wybie’s great aunt (Grandma’s sister) i believe the Beldam didn’t need to rely on the children’s spirits, and if she did she would be able to control them completely. Unlike with Coraline and the others. The 3 eyes we see in the movie, are powering the 3 wonders, though i’m sure there is a difference between a spirit and it’s eyes. Also when Coraline brought back that New York snow globe, it’d been shattered. So what if she had brought back the other Wybie? The original Wybie most likely would’ve been found dead.

Made it to the end! I really liked your theory it actually makes sense to me and I can’t wait for the next part! I also honestly don’t know what name is better for the cat because I like Ava Marone but at the same time that makes me think of Master Ava from Kingdom Hearts Union X and Back Cover and I used to be a big fan of Master Ava until I found the Ava is Darkness/The Traitor theories which make too much sense for me to continue liking Master Ava but the cat isn’t pink or red so Strawberry makes no sense whatsoever yet I wanna vote Strawberry because I’m salty over a fictional character. Instead of reproduction perhaps the Beldam has a Jeepers Creepers sort of situation going on. Maybe her 'death' is really a hibernation she fears. Or even a curse of the imprisonment being that if she doesn't catch a child between a certain period of time, she resets. Having to relearn things to the point she now follows instincts and fears having to do so again because she found a pattern. I watched this entire video twice to come up with this thought. Just to correct you not being mean its Wybie the reason the beldam goes after coraline is because she is in the pink palace wybie made a point of telling coraline at the beginning of the movie saying that his grandma doesn't give the house to people with kids but why let coraline and her family move in unless wybies grandma made a deal with the beldam

It’s a really good concept! However the flaw with it is that, the beldam isn’t known for dying yet or other beldams, and if their were it would be hinted in the movie or maybe the other kids would tell coraline, and if your theory is correct does that mean the girl (a.k.a wybies grandmas sister) is the beldam? That’s the part that kinda confuses me, however I like the idea of it!!!

This is probably a very small detail at this point but I think Coraline and the ghost children are young people who wondered their way into the Beldam's life through the door and then the minute the Beldam met them she was revealed to be a Narcissist who had been living alone for a long time and seeing children come into her life made her want to keep the children for herself. However due to the lifestyle of Narcissism, the Beldam didn't keep all of the children she encountered alive and once she was finished with one child she waited for another one!

What doesn't make sense with this theory (no offence and I love your channel and theories) is she already sowed buttons in the eye's of the other children (the ghost one's) only to eat them so if they are not her next airs why bother with that hassle. My theory is, if she sows buttons in the eyes she marking her meal as her own so no other entirety like her can take claim of her meal. Also so her meal can't see to run away and the buttons might act as away of stopping the portal door from opening so they can't escape from her world.

But the lights on the stage, in the bushes that look like animals, on the staircase up to Bobinski's, and possibly in other places stay yellow, keeping their color.
