Late Virtanen I have worn the bates surplus boots but I now buy the Corcoran marauders. Night and day better boots I’ve had this pair for 4 years as my daily boots and other than needing new soles are like new but at $100 for the resole on $150 boots just doesn’t make sense
@Hustlate
@Hustlate 4 жыл бұрын
@@mattberg6816 I see your point. Then again new soles on a broken in boot is sensation that new boots on that price range (or any price range) can't match. My current day to day boots are Finnish military boots m75. I don't know the exact age of those boots because they really don't label them like that, all I know they introduced them in 1975 and new model came out in 1996. Been thinking of getting another pair from my local surplus store after new soles though. Factory soles are made to be used as a skiing boots but I think my current pair will retire from skiing after they get new soles.

Late Virtanen I was looking at those same boots they look like a great boot I can see doing resoles on a pair that is full leather. I’ve been on the desert/jungle boots the last 5 years as my daily boots so it’s so hard to justify

There is nothing like getting your boots back from being professionally resoled. The top is broken in and feels great with the added strength from the new glue, stitching, and components of the sole. You have to experience it to understand. Anyone agree ?

I like that the uppers weren't completely overhauled, but rather preserved so that they can last for many more years. These jump boots must have had a long history, whereas trying to erase all the scuffs would only have done them a disservice. Awesome vid, relaxing and interesting to watch.

Fine work as always., but with combat boots, 3 coats of black dye before black polish is the rule. Learned that in boot camp. Let each coat dry for 1 hour. Then hand rub a coat black polish vigorously until it starts to shine. Then use a pair of nylon hose to finish the shine. Pro tip from an old Marine. 😎

AIRBORNE ALL THE WAY!!! I wore these boots with pride when I was a young Paratrooper back in the day. I used to wear them with BDUs and jumped with them sometimes just to keep them broken in. They were not really meant to be field boots anymore because they had no traction on the soles. They are best worn with in my dress greens, maroon beret, blue infantry cord, French Fourrage, and my jump wings with oval. Shined to a very high gloss that would burn your eyes out. That is what an Airborne Infantryman should look like with swag. Brought back memories when I used to shine them like glass. Thank you for sharing this.

Man it’s so cool to see those get resurrected and brought back to life. I have so many miles on a pair just like those. Hours and hours of shining. Looking back at those times, the amount of time, pride and so many tins of Kiw. The smell of the polish. The, I’m in no hurry, take your time almost therapeutic swirling guys asking how long it took you. “ Man it only took three beers long to get them done “ An issued handkerchief or and our worn out issued tee shirt a glass of ice water. The frustration of your efforts not producing a shine. Then like magic there it is, gloss. Those results made you put on another coat. Today’s world, if your shoes or boots are scuffed or bet up, throw them out buy another. Those days it was personal, it was pride and it was part of who you were. Thanks for sharing

For the glue stage, nothing beats putting them in a high vacuum chamber. This removes the air between the sections, and when the chamber is opened the ambient pressure will push the pieces together at every point at once, ensuring a proper seal.
