i kind of laughed off his HOF when i was a few years younger and knew even less than i do now. this year ... i'm starting to see it. it'd be WEIRD, but hey, you don't get in the Hall of Fame by being normal! he's an invaluable asset to every team he plays on. he's DRAGGING the Falcons to playoff contention right now. and that kick return record speaks for itself. what an incredible player.

if Devin Hester gets in this year I think Patterson has a confirmed spot. there's been a huge question mark around return specialists at HOFers, and I think Hester can break the stigma this year and pave the way for guys like Josh Cribbs, Dante Hall, and ofc, Cordarrelle Patterson in the future

Pro-Football reference tracks how many snaps a player takes. Patterson was used twice last season for Hail Mary ended of game/half situations... which is not uncommon given how Keyshawn Johnson, Randy Moss, Rob Gronkowski, etc. have all been used in that role. As for whether or not he is a HOFer... the answer is a resounding no. He currently has 4,841 yards from scrimmage to go along with 34 offensive touchdowns. He has 7,820 return yards to go with his record 9 touchdowns. His all-purpose yards currently total 12,679. There are 21 wide receivers/tight ends that have more receiving yards than he has all-purpose yards. He ranks 81st in all-purpose yards. If we were to compare him to other Swiss knife players that were used a returner/back/wideout... Brian Mitchell is 2nd with 23,330 yards, Darren Sproles is 6th with 19,696 yards, Herschel Walker is 12th with 18,168 yards, Eric Metcalf is 18th with 17,230 yards, Ted Ginn Jr is 24th with 15,742 yards, and Josh Cribbs is 31st with 15,453 yards. None of those six are in the HOF... with Sproles (I'd put him in) possibly having a chance. All of those players (minus Walker) were also elite punt returners, which is something that Patterson was never able to do. He and Devin Hester are both players that belong on the highlight real HOF... but once the highlight real is over there really isn't much to look at.

And that's never going to happen. By All rights based off where he was drafted he is a bust. A first round pick at wide receiver that never broke a thousand yards. Was moved to running back never broke a thousand yards. His special teams work is remarkable. But by no means should any other part of his game be considered as hall of Fame worthy.
