Saw you do this in Lancaster last wknd & had already forgotten how you did it so thanks for the video! Also, thanks again for talking me into stronger cheaters at the Edison show. +3.0 has me seeing at the vise better than ever. Unreal how much that upgrade in readers has helped. Best fly tying tip I ever got...thanks for everything you do for the FF community.

Love this technique Tim. I'll use it with different dubbings for some awesome effects, especially hares ear plus. Thanks for all your tutorials.👍

If you wanted the tails to add a little spring to the flies step, nylon "mayfly tails" may work better.

I'd suggest using a black bead to mimic the black head of the caddis

Could it be possible to save a step (and the use of a tool) by spinning the bobbin after creating the dubbing noodle, then pinch the corded up noodle with hackle pliers, tying and cutting the thread, and then dubbing the fly? Not sure if I'm clear, but the intend is to cord the dubbing noodle before cutting the thread.

What Sally Hanson's do you use? I checked at my local grocery and they had about six different kind?

How about spinning up dubbing brushes in advance, and using them for the case? I use hare's ear, squirrel and some flash, and they really imitate the pebble cases of some of our caddisflies. And skip the tail.

What are the applications of antron dubbing?

I know this is an odd question but in a lot of your videos, you show the fly in what looks like a plunger style hackle plier rotating around when it is finished to show all angles. I’d like to do that with my flies, my question is are you just using hackle pliers and rotating it for the camera for the presentation or do you have a rotating presentation stand?

It is actually a variable speed cake display stand that the fly sits on. The plunger style hackle pliers I use fit almost perfectly into the hole at the center of a Rio tippet spool and that's what is placed at the very center of the display stand. The only problem is, you get what you pay for with the display stands. If you want really smooth, slow rotation it's going to cost you.
