There is a default constructor in Mythread which will be called at a time of object creation of Mythread.In default construction there will be super(), which will call the default constructor of thread which will make the thread.And start is responsible execution of thread. if you have seen constructor videos of durga sir,it will clear this doubt. Hope u got your answer. just have a look of thread class documentation for more clarity. docs.oracle.com/javase/7/docs/api/java/lang/Thread.html

@Vamsee Krishna. Although we can extend "Thread" class for defining a thread, implementing "Runnable" is best approach. Because we can get some inheritance benefits that we can also extend a class while implementing Runnable. Moreover, performance is also good here by doing this.

Please anybody help me to clear this doubt. if we create the instance as follows MyRunnable r = new MyRunnable(); Thread t1 = new Thread(); Thread t2 = new Thread(); then by calling t1.run() method there is no new Thread is created but by calling t1.getName it will be going to give the name Thread-0, why we got this name as Thread is not created yet (i didn't call start method on same thread instance)
@chaudhrykhan82827 жыл бұрын
You have instantiated two different threads so their lifecycle have started as new. U have access to all of the methods which are defined in Thread class. When u create a new Thread object, it internally sets its name so when you call get method it returns the name of thread. Remember thread is in new state not in runnable state. It will only step into runnable state if you call start method of thread class. I hope it clarifies

Thread instantiation is not the same as thread creation. Thread creation happens inside a start() method which has lengthy lines of code.

Durga sir if Runable is recomnded to create thread then why java provide provide Thread class???????????????????
@daniels56757 жыл бұрын
we use Thread class to instantiate the thread itself. We always create a new instance of thread from Thread class, not from Runnable interface. Runnable is a interface, meaning we cannot make a new instance of it. To make a new instance of that interface we need to implement that interface somewhere. In this case, the implementation is on Thread class. So, the method run() in the Thread class, is actually comes from Runnable interface. Because of that Runnable implementation on Thread class, we can make a new thread by extending from Thread class itself, aside from just implementing Runnable interface. But as Mr.Durga said, it is always recommended to use the 2nd approach (implements Runnable) for the benefits we gain from it.

hi sir,Did not get why we cannot extend any other class after extending thread class
@gokulvlb7 жыл бұрын
Because Java doesn't provide multiple inheritance of classes
@surendramishra48137 жыл бұрын
yes Java doesn't support multiple inheritance. If a class A already extends any other class B then we can't extends class C or Thread class otherwise compiler will give left and right, that's why Runnable Interface comes in picture

plz help me understand in last two lectures we learn that "Thread" Class has start() methods and it implements runnable interface, But an implementation class cant have any methods other than the methods of its interface, This proves Runnable has start method which durga sir clearly said is not the case? Please help me and EXplain
@chaudhrykhan82827 жыл бұрын
Runnable interface has only one method known as run(). So Thread class implements Runnable therfore Thread class internally has run method since it implements Runnable. Runnable class does not define start method so u cant override start method. However, when u create class implementing Runnable, you are required to implement run method, no need of start since it is not defined in Runnable interface. Then you pass runnable class to Thread constructor and Thread will be used to call start method since Thread is the only class which has start method in it. Therefore, Runnable interface does not define start method. start method has its own implementation only in Thread class. I hope it cleard out ur confusion
@sandeepe59896 жыл бұрын
an implementation class need not implement only all the interface methods, but it can also add additional methods which are not there in interface. So Runnable interface which has only run() method is implemented by Thread class. The thread class not only have ONLY run() method but also have various other methods such as getName(), setName()....etc.
@mourya14296 жыл бұрын
when we are extending Thread class only 1 object for thread class is created but if we implement runnable interface we need to create 2 objects which is a memory wastage So can we Say if we want to utilize memory then only we need to extend Thread class? and also how can we say by implementing Runnable interface memory utilization is good?
@ArunKumarKarepu6 жыл бұрын
Let's say you have MyRunnable class implementing Runnable interface having 10000 lines of code in its run method and you want to run this class using 10 threads simultaneously. For this you have to create only one MyRunnable object and 10 threads and have to pass same MyRunnable object to every thread. But if you extend Thread class then you have to put 10000 lines of code in MyThread class and you have to instantiate this MyThread class 10 times which requires more memory than previous one because the class containing 10000 lines of code will have to be instantiated every time.
@jvsnyc4 жыл бұрын
@@ArunKumarKarepu Your answer may be a little misleading. Whether you have zero, ten, or ten million instances of a class, there is only one copy of each of its methods, static or not. Now, it might be that there are a lot of data members of MyRunnable, and it might be okay for all the threads to share them, in which case you would still save something. But it also might not be safe for each of the threads to share the same Runnable, or at least not without a lot of synchronization, which we haven't seen yet by this video.
@ArunKumarKarepu4 жыл бұрын
@@jvsnyc When you say all instances refer to only one copy of method. Can you explain me how methods will use variables something like "this.x" which is inside one method and if 4 objects access this method at same time? It's better if you can share references as I looked on the web but I couldn't find anything that mentioned all objects refer to only one copy of method. www.geeksforgeeks.org/static-methods-vs-instance-methods-java/
@jvsnyc4 жыл бұрын
@@ArunKumarKarepu I don't immediately have a reference that is not from a book. Essentially, each instance method, whether we are talking about Java, c++ or c#, at least, probably more, received a hidden first parameter which points to its copy of the instance variables for that type of object. In Java that will ALWAYS be on the heap, c# and c++ are more complex and flexible. Now you often don't say this.member explicitly, unless you are say in a setter like: Void setVal(int.value) { this.value = value; } However you are normally using it implicitly every single time any code reads or writes any of its instance variables. So if you have 2 million instances of a class, you still have just one single copy of the code for each. To spoil this 'magic' read anything about the 'this pointer' in Java. C# and c++ are similar but more complex, as not all objects must live on the heap in those. So, there is only ever one copy of the code, no matter how many objects there are at some time. The thin wires you don't see that makes it look like you are flying in the movie, which gets passed into every single instance method call without you seeing it, is that this pointer to your variables only.

@@jvsnyc Thanks. I got the reference to what you mentioned. JVM maintains method code in separate data area called "Method Area" and this memory is shared among all threads. docs.oracle.com/javase/specs/jvms/se7/html/jvms-2.html#jvms-2.5.4

run is a complete method in itself and it has nothing in it, we have already seen it in the last lecture . my question is Runnable is an Interface class so it must contain only abstract methods whereas it has only one method run() viz is complete in itself, how come this possible.....??
@daniels56757 жыл бұрын
on your other comments, u might mean implementing runnable interface. And we are always using the run() method in Thread start() method run() method is always empty, and always force us to override it. And for Thread class, it need to be a class for it to be able to create a new instance. Because of that, it need to be able to someway override the run() method it get from Runnable interface. But to give run() method a implementation doesn't bring any benefit at all, it will specified by the programmer later. That's why it stays empty.

Can anybody please explain this: .....since runnnable interface contains only run().. when we call the start(), how it gets executed to schedule the thread?
@sumitjha3928 жыл бұрын
The start() method of Thread class is executed to schedule the thread since you are passing the object of the class that implements interface to Thread constructor. MyRunnable r = new MyRunnable(); Thread t = new Thread(r); t.start(); //the start() method is invoked on Thread object (so start() of Thread will be executed where the thread will be registered in the scheduler)
