Dry Needling to the Plantar Fascia

Dawn Morse of Core Elements Training demonstrates Dry Needling technique to the Plantar Fascia. This is a useful technique for the treatment of plantar fasciitis and generalised plantar foot pain or discomfort.
Dry Needling techniques are useful in the treatment of musculoskeletal pain, tension and hypertonicity and is a useful modality for the treatment of a wide range of musculoskeletal disorders.
Prior to the application of the needles the area is cleansed with antibacterial gel (as shown on the trolly within the video) or an alcohol swab. Hands are also sanitised. This was all completed prior to the video.

Does this actually eliminate Plantar Fascitis -- after a certain number of treatments?

Yes it can help when combined within a rounded treatment, where the gastroc, soleus and opposing muscles are also treated, home care activities are provided such as stretches and strengthening, and reasons for plantar fasciitis are looked at (e.g walking gait, footwear etc). Even after one treatment where dry needling to the plantar fascia is provided, clients often feel the difference. But depending on how chronic it is, then as you suggested, a course of treatments will be beneficial. I hope this helps.

Occasionally, but this will just be a blood drop, like when you prick your finger on a pin / needle.

Hello, I suffer from plantar pain for more than 1 year on both foot due to neuropathy of medial plantar nerve. I discovered it is related to calf nerve (sciatica). Had MRI of my L4-L5 disk and it looks okay. It seems to be a local neuropathy between calf and plantar area. Would it help in such a case ? Thank you

Sorry to hear about your condition. Yes Dry Needling may help along with electro-needling. Look for a local therapist/physiotherapist who uses this modality and they should be able to assess you and advise on treatment 👍🏼.

The Dry Needling perspective focuses on application to the area of injury / pain. However an acupuncture perspective that you mention may also be of benefit?

If your doctor offers Dry Needling therapy, then they will be able to do this. But you’d be better off looking for a physiotherapist or sports therapist as they may offer this treatment. Sometimes the feet can be sensitive, but depends on the person and not to have an ‘expectation’ of pain.

It’s great for reducing MSK pain and tension and can be used on other structures of the body too.

Often clients will feel a difference after one treatment. But re-treatment depends on the severity of the condition, activity levels and home care treatment.
