I literally started teaching myself hybrid picking about 3 years ago by watching your KZbin Lessons at half speed, and trying to emulate your hybrid picking technique. Some things I got right, some way off. This hybrid picking course is great for anyone who wants to learn hybrid picking without spending hours and hours watching things at half speed. It is a great way to quickly begin learning the correct techniques of hybrid picking. The course is an excellent investment in yourself as a musician!! And, that PRS looks and sounds FANTASTIC!!! Thanks Corey!

Great lesson on how to get started, hadn't really thought about the unison concept. Sometimes it just makes more sense to use hybrid and I think I've just realized why I go for it when I do.

In Spanish we actually say "dedo anular" which means "ring finger". The word "anular" comes from latin anularis, anulus, anuli (anillo in Spanish) that means "ring".

I'm influenced by guitarists like PG and JP, so I focused more on alternate picking. It's time for me to start incorporating more hybrid picking into my playing. Thanks, that is very helpful!

Hey Corey, good video as always. Can you please do a few more videos on hybrid picking and show actual exercises, perhaps a few actual solos over a few videos, break it from easy/simple to hard/difficult over these videos. Reason I'm suggesting it is cause these very basic things about hybrid picking are all over youtube, but what I can't find are effective exercises and even more actual solo break downs in a way that will get us to "change our play forever' (as you titled this video). I hope you would appreciate this thought. Thanks again man!

Hybrid picking is incredibly useful, I really prefer it for lots of my playing nowadays. I even have incorporated the use of my pinky and that allows for picking/plucking four strings at the same time. Super cool. You make that PRS sound great Corey (as all your guitars)! I think for the longest time, I always associated you with your pelham blue SG or your Epiphone 🙂

Speaking of hybrid picking, Andy Wood played some Matteo Mancuso diagonal quintuplets and said it was hard on the right hand because the Mancuso kid finger picks. If Andy wood said something was hard it means it's impossible for other humans.

Quick and valuable lesson! I started somehow spontaneous with hybrid picking someday, as I didn´t want to lay the pick beside while doing fingerpicking. I agree, that this is a mighty tool and it sounds really great. Also you can do it whenever you want it, while holding the pick. So it brings a great flexibility. If you play pure fingerpicking and want to change to the pick, then you are usually a little bit stressed (where is that fxxxxx pick angain?). Thanks very much ❤

I've been able to do hybrid picking for a while now but as soon as I increase the speed,the synchronization between the pick and the middle finger gets sloppy.
@BillyBigBollox-v6b28 күн бұрын
No one ever talks about the correct hand position though. If I hold the pick in a normal position, i.e. perpendicular to the strings, the second and third fingers are at a 45 degree angle to the strings and just slide off them. In order to get a clean pluck, I have to hold my whole hand at a right angle to the strings and hold the pick at an acute angle. I don't get it?

Hey Corey. Do you use hybrid picking with your acoustics? If so, why is it different than finger picking?
@DanAddison Жыл бұрын
Just to chime in, I use hybrid on acoustic these days, after formerly playing only fingerstyle. Back then I held my hand in a very ‘classical guitar’ way and was very fluent and dexterous at intricate folkey fingerstyle stuff like Martin Simpson or Nick Drake. I felt my playing and composing stagnated for at least a decade so I banned fingerstyle (and open tunings - a crutch!), and am now decent at hybrid. I admit this prevents me from playing quite such fast spidery sinuous types of complex repeating picking patterns, where all 5 fingers were being used. So I definitely play different (mission accomplished) but with a much broader palette of what’s available. Can do fast picking runs, tremolo picking, get a harder more precise attack, and much improved palm muting, all as standard from a pick, while still having 3 fingers available for all sorts. Has made me explore and eventually appreciate more genres than I had previously. Feels like a superpower. Would recommend.

For hybrid picking that made many players consider tossing their axe and taking up something simple like brain surgery, see Richard Thompson.

what's flat picking? and how is it different from regular?
@Flacsabbath Жыл бұрын
Flatpicking just means using a pick. I’ve heard it used more in the acoustic guitar realm. Picks used to be called flat picks back in the day, but the country crowd uses that term still for any instrument to distinguish between fingerstyle and using a pick.
