Only a minority of Ashkenazim have a blonde/blue-eyed look about them, the rest are indistinguishable from Sephardim. We could perhaps say that only a minority of Mizrachim skew darker than the norm. @@tiago5339Yes, Yiddish is a best German tongue based on Medial High German. But Yiddish is infused with Aramaic, Hebrew, and much later on brought in Slavic borrow words. It evolved when the Jewish people made their way north across the Alps, ending up in the Rhineland of west, Germany and northern France. That is where the Ashkenazi culture had its genesis, but it has nothing to do with the origins of those Jewish people. They are not Germanic, nor are they Slavic, the Jewish people if you care to look at genetics studies have been proven to originate in the eastern Mediterranean area i.e. where Israel is today. Virtually all Jewish people on the planet, share the same ancient haplogroups. And that goes for all Jewish people not just Ashkenazi Jews. Unless you are a convert to Judaism with absolutely no Jewish genetics. That is extremely rare and even converts typically end up marrying borne Jews. Jack Of All Trades In rabbinic literature, the kingdom of Ashkenaz was first associated with the Scythian region, then later with the Slavic territories, and, from the 11th century onwards, with northern Europe and Germany. Thus, Jewish groups who lived in that region after they had been driven from Israel are termed "Ashkenazi." "Sephardi," on the other hand, is Hebrew for "Spanish" or "Hispanic." Spaniards are, of course, gentiles too, but Jews have lived among them and are thus termed "Sephardi."

Israelis are much less divided than places like the US. In the US you can see people of different races together but its much more likely to see groups of friends with the same backgrounds as well. In Israel for the most part you will almost always find that the groups are all mixed, be it ashkenazi, mizrachi, ethiopian, etc. There are areas where the re a certain ethnicity is more common so you will say a lot of similar people hanging but in general everyone has friends from all backgrounds. Be it school, army, or whatever you meet a lot of different backgrounds and everyone mixes very well, there is very little prejudice to be found here. The main issue is sadly between the Palestinians and Israelis not within the groups. But even then you can find Druze, Arab Israelis, and jews hanging together, it's not uncommon at all.

The girl at 0:30 who says she's Ashkenazi actually looks more Asian. Though clearly not purely. But definitely has that admixture. At any rate, whatever term anyone would come up with to define hers, or any other Jew's ethnic makeup, I'm sure she is definitely ethnically Hebrew. I believe that is the case with the overwhelming majority of Jews (including the Ethiopians). They all look different because of different admixture over the years, though, are still almost all descendants of Jacob given that even most converts married into the Jewish line. And also, people have to realize, Jews were _ALWAYS_ a mixed "race." Even from the purely secular/ethnic (meaning non-religious) definition, Jews are not, and have never really been, a "race," but rather, a *_LINEAGE._* I wish more people had the knowledge and intelligence enough to understand this. I mean look, folks, even if, let's just use an example here, your father or mother was black African, but married and had offspring with a Scandinavian white, and then you did likewise, and your children, and then their children, ....their children are not going to look at all African, but yet, nevertheless, they are still descendants of a black African. Notice how many Israelis laugh at the question. Whether you're white, pink, brown or black Jew, hating you for your skin color is like hating your cousin. In my case literally since my cousin come in all colors, from blackest black, to whitest white. We don't make a fuss about "interracial" marriage, because to us we're already the same race.

Hahaha Corey are you kidding me?!? all the guys you've asked for were clearly not 100% Ashkenazim, except Aviv, you live in Israel and you can't tell between Ashkenazim and Mizrahim??? The guys you've asked are Ashkenazi wannabe maybe, what's up with you Mizrahim always when you're like 1\4 or 1\8 Ashkenazi you will always choose to call yourselves Ashkenazi are you ashamed of your race or something? Of corse you're going to get positive views because you ask mixed people. Anyways Corey you're not gonna find a true Ashkenazi is a town like Tel-Aviv if you want to ask 100% Ashkenazis you should visit some of the kibbutzim where population is over 90% Ashkenazi and less mixed, there the picture might be a whole different story, I myself live in a kibbutz where most of it's population origin from Germany and Poland, I can honestly say most people here hate Mizrahim even if they won't say that, and to all those calling us racists, yes we are, but so are the Mizrahim, go ahead Corey ask the common Mizrahim in a town like Migdal Haemeq, Dimona or Ofaqim what he\she thinks of Ashkenazim, or just open Israeli TV where you find Mizrahim bashing Ashkenazim freely but god forbids if anyone says the same about them...

Darktemplar99999 Lol אני רואה שאתה לא מפסיק אז אחת ולתמיד Keep being an ultra "leftist" kibbutznik minority within Israel. Most Ashkenazim are indeed leftist but not like you, the only people who can agree with your opinions are the Ashkenazim whom are "pro-palestinian" & anti zionists that live in some insular Kibbutzim. They act like that because they believe the Zionist right & Mizrahim stole "their" country, turned it into an Arab state and the country no longer has their western democratic values & morals. That's insane and hilarious at the same time. Go outside of your liberal elitist village and shout out your opinions out loud - what you think of Israelis nowadays, I wonder what people would say to you, especially the youth. Don't hide in a forsaken kibbutz please 😂 And the people here look like typical Ashkenazim, if you look very very different and "white" then maybe you are the mixed one. Anyway, most of Israel is right wing now and centrist (and the Left is not as radical & racist as it used to be) so your opinions don't matter or relevant anymore. Racist "liberal" minority don't belong here. Its the Middle East, If you are not happy with the current culture and find it difficult to hide in the elitist secular bunker you live in, you are welcomed in Europe where secularism and westernity will suit you the most. If there are still people like you in Israel's villages, you will fade away one day that's for sure.

the oriental culture was a backlash from Mizrahim and has little to do with the Middle East. When they moved to Israel, the dominant culture was Ashkenazi. Many felt inferior compared to doctors and lawyers trained in Berlin and Poland. The children of both ended up creating a different Israeli culture based on Western ideas. the new generation of Mizrahim born in Israel took the culture of their home and made it public. The Oslo process allowed it to take over the country.

I think dislike would have been a more appropriate question. Most Israelis won't even admit to hating Palestinians. You would find more Evangelicals in America hating Palestinians than Israelis. I have been following this channel closely and based on the people you have interviewed, Israelis in general tend to be very moderate people in my opinion. They wouldn't admit to hating anyone. Ask them if they dislike something/someone and that might give you a more reasonable answer.

Sphardic refers to Jews who were forced out of Spain and Portugal in 1492 and went to North Africa, the Levant, Europe and Turkey. Mizrahi means 'eastern' and originally referred to Jews from Iraq. Today it is used for Jews who came from the Middle East/North Africa. Outside Israel, Sphardic and Mizrahi are used for both groups. In Israel the term Sphardic refers to those who can trace their heritage to the expulsion from Spain.

The vid is also revealing in the subjects who you assume are Ashkenazi (because they are fair?) and they turn out to be Mizrah/Sefaradi. I continually waste time on silly KZbin debates (why is a question for a psychologist) with people who not only insist that Mizrahi/Sefaradi Israelis suffer from intense discrimination from Ashkenazim, but also labor under the impression that all non-Ashkenazim are dark-skinned and all Ashkenazim are "white" and light-skinned.

Ashkenazims shouldn't hate Mizrahim, because Mizrahim are true descendents of Abraham they belong in Israel. All Mizrahim can trace their lineage from one of the 12 tribes of Israel. Can't say the same for their European counterparts who are only Jewish because of religion. Many of them are either Russian, German, Ukrainian, Polish or Dutch.

marc chesley It has been proven in studies that Jews of Ashkenazim,Mizrahim, and Sephardi are related to Palestinians. There is no doubt that in European Jews there is a European component, but most of the DNA is compiled of middle eastern. Roughly 30 percent is European in European Jews.
