Cork Exhibition Procession 1902

Trade Procession for opening of Cork Exhibition. The location was in the grounds adjacent to where the Cork Museum at the Fitzgerald Park now resides. In the middle right background is the facade of the former Presentation Brothers College (Pres) on the Western Road. Cork Fire Brigade can be seen proceeding along as the procession halts to allow the VIP's to pass by. Later in the film the VIP's can be seen arriving for the grand opening of the exhibition entering via the gates leading to the Cork Museum.

I'm surprised by the number of bowler hats, top hats, etc. in a trade procession. I wonder why there was an American flag in there, about 3.30 in, and I'm amazed to see footage of Irish National Foresters: judging by newspapers, they seemed to take part in every public march in the country since they were founded in 1877. The livery in the mayoralty procession, about 4.30 and 6.30 in, looks rightly daft.
