Glad you mentioned the Jesuits for a second at the end! I'm also hypercritical of religion and grew up fairly secular in general, but going to a Jesuit high school was one of the greatest things my parents could have done for me and I was so grateful for the opportunity. Their commitment to a rigorous education is isnane, and Jung also talks about how powerful Ignatian spirituality is in one of his books, but I can't remember where. But great job bro, and I'm a huge fan of the content. Keep up the good work!

Love your channel! As an (eastern) Orthodox Christian I would like to point out that there is no guarantee of Heaven for us, not because of the fact that Christ’s sacrifice wasn’t sufficient, but because of our own natures. Theosis is a lifelong process, and salvation is not something that can be an once-and-done-deal. You peel upon layers off “your self”, until you reveal the secret person underneath. And because of this work, demons attack you: sometimes as temptations, sometimes through people, other times they can come and beat you (if you are spiritually advanced). Also you can fall at any time, or worse you can think you are making progress, but you are in “prelest“ (delusion), so you have to eventually confront your “shadow self”(though I hate this term, because, for me, what is truly scary is finding your own light self, you as you were made in the image of God)

Would you ever make a video about teaching high school English? I'd like to hear a long form persepctive since I'm considering doing it. These videos have helped me deepen my understanding of the topics from these books and its inspiring.

I always assumed he wrote about violence because human beings are violent.

Violence is a form of extreme human behavior as George Carlin would put it. Also What Metal bands do you listen to?

First time I read Suttree I struggled with it. Second time I read it a few years later it was one of the greatest novels I’d ever read.

Make yourself realize it's nothing but ink on paper. No animals were harmed in the writing of these books, or in the reading of them.
