You can tell he still wants to be ufc champion atleast one time. He has the fire but it has to be the right opponent. When masvidal beat Nate, he had that fire. Or when Colby was trash talking he had that fire. That’s all he needs

He was pretty epic for 2 out of 3 rounds and that was an amazing fight. Yeah he couldn’t get up but I don’t think this brings Nick’s stock down much at all. He’s 38, away for so long, and he created 2 super fun and insane rounds. Most fans are still rooting for him.

Yea I think he did great. I need to watch it again but i think it was a liver kick that got nick and another body shot that got him. He had 2 more rounds to go, maybe that weighed heavy on his mind and he knew he was defeated. So I think it was the smart thing to do. A smart move to avoid unneeded injuries

I agree with most of your post except your choice of words that Nick “couldn’t get up.” He refused to get up. His legs weren’t broken and he wasn’t unconscious. He chose not to get up. And that’s okay- live to fight another day. Don’t create a narrative though that fits with your personal opinions. You have an issue with someone “quitting” so you’re creating your own reality of what transpired instead of dealing with the actual reality of what happened. Quitting that way is no different from tapping in a submission. There’s no actual shame in it except for people that create shame.

Nick threw 339 strikes inside 3 rounds after a harsh 6 years layoff with a lot of parties and alcohol, which was around 100 more strikes than Valentina threw against Murphy in 4 rounds and close to the strikes Alex threw against Ortega in 5 rounds. Such a good take DC. There’s no better opinion on a fighter’s mindset and performance than from another fighter. He hit the nail on the head on this one imo. This Nick situation has brought out some of the best and worst in the fans and mma media. Mostly the best but some people are just soulless. Knowing how Nick struggles with anxiety I was scared for him. I mean that in a good way. I can’t imagine the nerves he mustve felt walking into the octagon. He must’ve had an out of body experience just out of the disbelief that he was back in there…
@rattlesnake3d
@rattlesnake3d 3 жыл бұрын
say what you want, the guy was out of shape for a professional fight, there was a point where he threw like 5 consecutive punches that wouldn't knock out a kid, almost like his head was telling him to do stuff but the body just could not do it. I hope he comes back better. Lawler was great, and it was obvious to me that he was giving Diaz all the chances in the world to give a good show, but it was rather sad to watch. Man UFC criticize Jake Paul for setting up fake fights , but this one felt close to that .

He didn't fight nervous. He was out of shape, not at his best and rusty. Yet he still displayed pretty slick boxing and had a good account of himself. Let Nick come back at 170lbs in shape, he'll do even better. And for the people saying why didn't he use his BJJ... Well you have to be on the ground to use your BJJ. He never had strong takedowns, and Robbie has pretty solid defensive wrestling. Wasn't gonna happen unless Nick tired him out and beat him up on the feet first.

These guys won't say it openly because that would discredit Lawler's performance, but the match was over before it began. Nick lost match in the fight camp. He was way out of shape. It is impressive his skills carried him all the way to the third round. Try fighting while out of shape and you'll have an epiphany on the subject.

I don't think Nick is done. He needed the toughness of Robbie Lawler to relize that he needs to get back into war shape. Both Nick and Robbie brought it to the Octagon. Robbie is Elite and Nick had to experience that in order to shoot for the top. He wants to fight and be the best but he also has to save himself to be able to get into the physical condition to compete at the level of greatness. He also said that he'd be ready to come back fast if he got his @$$ beat and thats exactly what happened. Nick has about 4 to 5 great fights left in him. They will be high paying elite level fights! I gotta say I don’t think DC could be more off on his statement about Nick continuing to fight. He made mention of the fact that Nick was only 38 and how he had his most successful year of his career at 39. Being out of the sport for almost a decade than returning at 38 is a whole different ball game. Nick did a lot of good things against lawler but at the end of the day he looked a step behind another older fighter and doesn’t seem to have it in him to go through the rigors of being an active fighter. Nick has nothing to be ashamed of by walking away, he put on an entertaining show Saturday. I’d rather see him walk away than endure the damage he’s in for by competing, I don’t see him keeping up with the younger fighters

We are talking about a guy that in three rounds put the greatest pound for pound of all time BJ Penn in a hospital to secure a title shot against an opponent that would end up being overweight and fixed to win. Why would Nick want to repeat the same mistake ten years later actually giving it all to win in a non-welterweight fight that means nothing as far as advancing the rankings is concerned and be able to avoid hurting Robbie more than is necessary. five rounds for an inconsequential fight? plus Nick got 75,000 taken from his purse after the fight. This is laughable, Nick got fight of the night for two rounds without doing the most AGAIN, so no I don't think Nick was nervous.

There are teenagers making making videos in their bedrooms that they upload at 1080p quality and here is ESPN, the only channel still in 2008. Sad.

Ya a lot of people expected him to show up like he’s still 30 years old. Dude has been gone for close to 7 years, literally like 2 years ago he was making party vids on Instagram saying stuff like “I don’t wanna hurt anyone i just want to party” drunk af. iMO Nick was guaranteed to lose this fight even against an old beat up lawler

@@rhysjones1108 People underestimate the Young Mans Mentality, as you get old you don’t wanna hurt other people because you know the damage it could cause long term… but when you’re young dumb and hungry you could care less 😂

I think he was on TRT and had to get off it in order to fight. His body didn’t take it well. I hope he can come back, he will need a much longer camp and better preparation.

No on can keep up a with a pace like the one Robbie Lawler put on Nick but If Nick had of been the Nick of days gone bye he wouldn’t have given up like that after Robbie blitzed him with the body drooping thunder shot that caused Nick to question the truth about himself,If he was ready to fight hard until Robbie slowed down THEN pick up the pace.Real talk though I think Nick should get 1 or 2 more fights win or lose people would still watch.

He was eating heavy shots throughout the first 2 rounds, was still giving the same back. Watching that fight a second time I was even more impressed by him after having such a layoff like he had, great fight all around. Hope to see him come back for 1 more.
