So sorry about the blow down. In in California. Farmers took the biggest water cut. But you don't see anyone giving up the pool in the backyard. If farmers can't farm we don't eat. It's that simple. I appreciate all you and all farmers do. God bless you all.

I recall some years back in the 60s and 70s when there was wind damage on farms in the area. They were growing crops to feed dairy cows and pigs so they chopped the down corn and oats for silage. Not so easy to do when the crops are being grown for cash. Looks like in might have been heavy rain combined with wind that knocked the crops down. There are so many spotty heavy rain amounts when water comes down like pouring it out of a bucket.

In my area I've watched it for 50 years taking down tree lines for bigger and better equipment, old timers had a perimeter of trees around fields to protect crops against storm damage.

So,what would you guess could be with this funky weather now days? The last 2 years for sure,and this drought that has us in the west. This stuff not only affects the farmer,but also the consumer. Some folks probably don't realize that. In your case,the beef you raise,and crops you do sell. If feed is short for the beef market that will just raise prices and everything else that gets affected, even the truck drivers. So we can expect higher prices at the markets. I hope you will be able to harvest ALL your salvageable crops. Thanks for the videos and especially the drone footage. It looks like a great area that you live in despite the big winds the last couple of years.

Some times you can do every thing right, varieties, fertilizer, planting conditions, but you can’t fight mother nature no matter how bad you want to blame it on something else, 60 70 80 mph winds no corn can stand up to that, been there several times my self, good luck with harvest and i hope it all works out

Thanks for sharing your thoughts, updates, and videos. Sorry to hear about the crop damage, hopefully you are correct about it not being as bad as before. Was wondering if you have compared drone footage from this year with last year’s, are there common problem spots from both years or is the damage randomly arranged. If there were common spots could something like a reinforced snow fence help to offer a wind shelter in the future? Wishing you and your family the best.

as a nonfarmer, it would appear you need to add things to break the wind like lines of trees or switch to something that doesnt snap in the wind. while probably irrelevant, i do see a pattern of disturbed dirt around the areas where the corn fell. maybe bad soil is contributing somehow?

Great video , what is the reason for planting in strips instead of planting the whole field ?
@kennyz65333 жыл бұрын
It is to prevent erosion on their hillsides. Putting different crops in strips along the hillside helps keep the water from rushing down the hills and taking dirt with it.
@jeffreybroadbent73183 жыл бұрын
Your corn could be lacking a trace element that strengthens the stems, could be moly or some thing else. Either do a soil test and maybe a tissue test in those affected areas. Something to look into for next years crop.
@jamesbyrne57343 жыл бұрын
Hi Ryan . Sorry to see ur corn lying over 🥺 . Questions . Why the patch work corn fields ? Curved strips / triangles / squares ! And how do u decide the on the bits u plant ? Does that not leave all the patches vulnerable to the wind ? Ps. Enjoy ur videos 👍🏻

I wonder if the seemingly random corn blown over in the 24 acre field has any correlation to the population, or hybrid, you planted it to, or the soil type, when Andrew was planting this with the 7210R and his fancy planter. I'm guessing with the data he would have from planting, you'll be able to see some attribute that correlates very closely to the down corn area.

I'm sorry to see your corn down again. It looks like the row on the edge of the contour strip is still standing but the rows inside the strip are down. Any thoughts on that? Do the outside rows yield less. Less ear weight = less downed corn?
@matt568493 жыл бұрын
The outside rows have to stand up to wind all throughout the year, and so those stalks grow stronger than the inner rows. I've seen it many times that you open up a field harvesting it, and the inner rows start to get blown over by fairly light winds because the outer rows are no longer there to protect the inner, weaker rows.

the sad part is mom an pop are to old to run it or passed on and today's kids dont want nothing to do with it, they want the cash, so it ether ends up sub divided and 160 homes built, or solar farms, here you see solar in fields with cows, out at our air port is line with solar panels all down the south side of the run way , on bright sunny day coming in with a small plan, you are blinded by the reflection.. they should not be allowed on prime farm land, just means many more tons of food shipped in from over seas ,... people need to start growing them self, there life depends on it..
