So sorry for the damage. That is one more reason that I contend that farmers are the biggest gamblers that there are. Plant a crop and the majority of the time between planting and harvesting is out of your control. Best of luck, take care & stay safe.

Good evening. Being a Propane hauler, bout the only thing you can do is 1 move the pig farther away from the house or 2 build a lean to or building around it but use lightening rods and run thick gauge wire to multiple rods driven into the ground 3 get a Propane pig that can be buried. Positive and negative results with each option. Propane expands 10x its liquid state in a atmospheric release. Vapor lights off 1st then the liquid. Repeat until no liquid or vapor is left. Be safe everybody

Ryan I think you have a pattern forming with down corn, you might want to look into copper levels in your corn plants with a Sap Analysis test. Adequate copper is needed for cell wall flexibility which would allow that corn to bounce back. I too, had lodged corn in the past few years. After doing a lot of sap testing this year I discovered most of my fields were deficient in copper and several other nutrients. Where I addressed that with some foliar application of copper and many other nutrients all of that corn is standing really well, where I didn't do foliar applications I see some corn going down in small areas from recent winds. I would venture a guess and say your corn would probably be deficient in other metals as well. Most of them are there in the soil but are oxidized and not plant available. Hence the need for a Sap Analysis test to get an accurate picture of what your corn is able to acquire from the soil.
@HowFarmsWork3 жыл бұрын
We'll look into that! Thanks!
@glenfredrickson28813 жыл бұрын
@@HowFarmsWork If you want to dig deeper for a better understanding into the subject of oxidized metals in soils I would highly recommend a video recording of a webinar that Advancing Eco Ag has. The video on KZbin is titled "How to Release Manganese and other Metals from Soil Reserves." The first 36 minutes is the webinar recording the rest is Q and A format.

Some good drone coverage. Mother nater has NOT be very nice to farmers the last couple/few years,depending on what part of the country. I liked the way you straightened the sheet metal with the handy dandy crescent wrench. That is VERY HIGH TECH. Since I left the farm in the late 70's,I did the military thing for 5 years. Got a job doing Depot Maintenance on F-4's. That is the very tool we used to roll the forward edges of the main landing gear doors after final rigging. You don't want anything hanging down at the speed of a fighter's speed or it could just get damaged. I liked the comment about getting the old roller welded an keeping for a spare. It never hurts to have a spar anything on the farm.

Sad to here about your weather. I drove down from north east minnesota on the first week of August to visit and old friend of mine in Lancaster. I spent a few days in the area, and, the crops looked pretty good. We in Minnesota, especially the north east part have had almost no rain all spring and summer. I no longer farm, but, the drought has created the conditons for some big forest fires. Our air quality has been horrible because of the smoke, and, ash falling, even though i am almost forty miles form the biggest fire.

Just be thankful that your farm isn't located in the northern part of the county along County T near Boscobel. Some flatten crops, a barn foundation wall crumbling away, or the neighbors propane tank being struck by lightning would have been the least of your concerns that day the tornado 🌪 swept through the area.
