Find yourself an old wringer washing machine for your rags. you can fill it with hot water and plenty of your favorite cleaners and turn it on and leave it run for a couiple of hours. Rinse in a tub of water and your good to go. Using your house washing machine for grease rags will start to coat the inside of the tube, hoses, and pump with grease. Always use the hottest water you can. Good luck.

Very interesting video. Sure nice to have the two planters, makes for less changing everything else back and forth. I do that, one for smaller seeds and one for the larger seeds. Had to laugh when you were worried about 41 degrees, am 250 miles from home and received a frost warning for 28 degrees there. Will see what the cabbage, broccoli, onions and peas look like when I get home. When I left it showed nothing lower than 34. Blessings to all for the rest of the week. As always looking forward to the next video.

Thanks for another great video! Good luck on figuring out the corn plates. I was trying to figure out the spacing on my 180 belly planter with the IH Duplex planter using only 1 side. I drove down one of the 400' rows and counted each time the plate should have dropped a seed. The count was 325, so I figured that would be perfect about 15" spacing. I got 3-4 corn plants germinating each foot! LOL All I can figure is the seed plate was dropping 3-4 seeds at a time due to the sweet corn being a smaller seed than the field corn the plate was made for. I'm going to pick up 4 50# bags of 10-10-10 with micro nutrients tomorrow. I know you saw that you close down your fertilizer hopper until you can barely get your finger under the gate IIRC. Hope that's right? I'm going to set the 140 up for cultivating and side dressing tomorrow. Thanks, Ken

Hopefully it won’t interfere with your vacation this year. Another good corn planting video! My Silver Queen has been in the ground 5 weeks now and it’s about knee high. Managed to get all of it back up straight after the storm last week flattened all of it with 60 mph plus winds and over 5 inches of rain. Feeling blessed it’s back up. God is good!

Definitely work out the effective planting spacing for your planters/plates. We put a little corn in the hoppers and drive down the hard gravel driveway and measure seed drops. Then adjust sprockets. You can also measure wheel circumference, sprocket teeth, and plate cell count to get a number too but the driveway test is quite effective. Watch for skips and doubles! Aim for 9-12in spacing on your Bloody Butcher/Jimmy Red heirloom corn, it needs more space. I've used 30in rows at 9in but trying out 15in rows at 12in to give every plant more space yet increase plants per acre.

Hey Joey, great video! I have a 186 planter for my 100 and a Hol-Mac 274 belly planter for my 274. I thought the 174 had a metal hopper like yours and the 184 has a fiberglass like the 186? I could be wrong. Yours work good, that's the main thing 👍

First time ever, I planted corn two weeks before Easter and got lucky. I've got a 70 year old John Deere planter that looks like a 149. I'm having trouble finding gears for mine and only have 24 cell plates, so i get plants about 4 to 6 inches apart. I'm thinking that I'll JB weld half the cells.

Planted our sweet corn this past weekend. I like that planter. I use an old Cole planter behind my 140. I like how you knock that ridge off the row. We use to do that when planting tobacco but never thought to do it with corn. Last couple years I been planting my corn on the flat without a ridge at all

A few video's ago you showed how to replace the bushing in a hilling disc. On this planter, I see that there are two small disc's that cover up the seed. Do they have a bushing in them? If so, the right side looks like it's going to need to be replaced soon. At 18:02 you show a close up of it covering the seed and the right side is kind of flopping back and forth, while the left side seems to be doing a perfect job.
