We plant 3" deep in dryland Montana. The seeds need the moisture which is deeper. We plant Painted Mountain Corn which is from Indian and Homesteader decent which is very hardy.

It’s best if you orient the seed to the northeast.

That planter will only cost $300K. But no worries, yields will be up 3% so it’ll pay for itself in 30 years.

myla adriano you didn’t say what went wrong with your corn crop. These guys are really good about answering specific questions. Perhaps you could grow a small plot that would be easier to manage and learn what works in your area. Don’t be afraid to ask advice of other farmers that have been successful. I think most farmers are very willing to share their knowledge.

The first time I grew corn was 1968.. The average yield was only 167 bu over 400 acres. The first year I payed close attention to the details, that was a good start. An old friend gave me many pointers but having a degree in agronomy helped. Growing corn is much the same as 50 years ago. The population and fertilizer is the same but higher yields due to better genetics. Now we have better tools and growing corn is much easier.

Does this apply to most plants or corn specifically
@jets89914 жыл бұрын
well the video is about corn so it's definitely corn specific, however it's kind of a good baseline for most plants. so many plants out there youd be better off researching specific plants

Thats hog weed and you need you need to get it out by the root otherwise it will keep coming back, however ther is a 3 pronged tool that will remove it or when you are before ploughing the field there is a specific hog weed killer but it will come back in 3 years, even if you take it out by the root as the birds will drop the seeds.... if you want to know more then i can help you.... Kym for Scotland and thanks for the tip for the corn

I always plant between 6-12 inches. No adverse effects on yield or emergence or anything like that. Corn is more resilient against wind and can access more water this way. Try it.

I planted 8cm /3,2in. and it's the best for me...5cm is to shalow and the faster corn "pop out" from ground the root is weaker developed especially if it's very hot.
