I was wrong about not having our DC in house - Butler's resume is nearly pristine and I hope he's as good as his resume...........the best new hire is Terry B. at D-line coach............young and impressive indeed ! Stay healthy and continue to believe in Rhule -- he just seems to be ahead of the problems and has an answer. We now have more former NFL coaching experience than just about anywhere and new players who want to go pro have to be impressed by that fact. GBR !!!

First gut reaction from fans is not super excited but we’re fans and Ruhle is the HC and knows more than us. So, trust him already. Not saying it’s a home run hire but let’s see. Hiring a big stud may not work here either, no way of knowing 100% without trying. I do hope Ruhle knows what he’s doing as his ice is getting thinner, not thicker it would seem. He had to produce more wins next season. Let’s start with a bowl win and see what develops.

I think the only issue people have is, we expected the secondary to play lights out this year. Which would then have had people excited about Butler. But we couldn’t get off the field on 3rd down and got beat over the top constantly all year.

I am a little concerned. I felt the Blackshirt front seven was as effective as it was in 2023; but the secondary - as I saw it - had obvious regression in 24. That was the new DC’s unit.
@CornCrazed
@CornCrazed Ай бұрын
It seemed that way, but keep in mind, Newsome went pro & Tommi Hill was injured and no longer effective after game 3. The drop off may have been in personnel & I’m waiting to judge after he gets an entire offseason!
@robertlamkin6464
@robertlamkin6464 Ай бұрын
@ That is a good point. Who, in your opinion, were the weak links in that unit?
@CornCrazed
@CornCrazed Ай бұрын
@robertlamkin6464 Hartzog was inconsistent, but his size didn’t do him any favors. Gifford was out of position quite a bit too, not sure why he regressed this season. Hill was in for way too many plays after his injury and that cost Neb a ton of big plays/TD’s. Buford looked how he has in the past. Wright was the best guy out there and Singleton was pretty solid.
@robertlamkin6464
@robertlamkin6464 Ай бұрын
@ I wonder if Gifford’s issue was not speed; but thank you for your responses.

Sark and Texas went out and hired Miami Dolphins DL Coach Kenny Baker this past offseason and it was a HR hire. This could be a great hire for DL recruiting. Just have to remember it will take some time to develop relationships and for him to get around to seeing all the DL Nebraska are interested in. Plus I’m sure he will have some connections and guys he wants to offer that Rhule hasn’t seen.

I know that all Husker fans want a DC with lots of notoriety, and maybe John doesn't check that box for some, but that's just being ignorant of Rhule's methods. And if Rhule wants the same D as these last two seasons then why would he chose anyone else? I think all of his choices are 👍, and the portal player I'd like most to see us get is Phoenix from Fresno, and secondly Kevin Gallic.

I'm positive on Bradden. I'm leery of Snow or any of Rhule's former co-workers or friends and their kids - look at how "well" some of them have worked out. Butler - I'm changing my positive on him to neutral.

Great job Connor, keep crushin it young man 🌽🏈🌽

Thinking of Dane Key as a replacement for Jamal Banks is crazy. Dane Key is why more dynamic and can do way more after the catch. He gives major Palmer vibes as far as production potential.
@CornCrazed
@CornCrazed Ай бұрын
I’m not comparing him in terms of production. I’m comparing his play style lol. No question he could put up more yards and have more catches, but he’s still an X receiver with a similar skill set.
@lukehallowell3225
@lukehallowell3225 Ай бұрын
@ I still think his play style is different. Yes they play the same position but banks is purely a possession guy I think Key has the ability to be incorporated as more then just the X is all I’m saying.
@CornCrazed
@CornCrazed Ай бұрын
@lukehallowell3225 yea, a little bit I think. I just don’t see him as much of an after the catch guy, although he is more effective than Banks in that area and is obviously viewed as a 3rd round draft pick, which is much higher than Banks!

Illinois, USC, and UCLA were all winnable if the right OC was in place. Switching out the RB consistently hurt this team and not telling Dylan to run or throw it away would have won these games. Also, Heinrich needs a complete package at Quarterback or put him at H back or TE. He should be on the field almost every play.
