great video. if anyone watching this is considering lasik, DO NOT DO IT !!!. i've had it done and its been the biggest regret of my life. It is not a safe surgery and watching this video along with what lasik does to the cornea should explain everything. wish i understood more about it before undergoing it.

The cornea is remarkable, but Dr. Blackwell is even more so! His knowledge and eloquence is effortless, and his desire to spread this knowledge is wonderfully generous. I have learned more about the eye through information available on the internet than all my study years! Many thanks.

Excellent presentation! What an amazing structure. Thank you for the excellent video Dr. Blackwell! Soon I'll have a consulation for a lens implant. I know that the ophthamologist will check the endothelial layer to be sure that my eyes are healthy enough for the surgery. I never thought that in my lifetime I may be able to function without glasses or contact lenses! I'm very hopeful that this procedure will work for me.

How about both, and clear. The cornea is derived from skin tissue, which is quite tough. Best analogy I can think of is a basketball. At low inflation pressure you can indent it with your finger, but the surface would be hard to stretch or puncture. Wouldn't try that at home though.

Craig Blackwell how do u heal corneal abrasions for example if cigarette ash gets on to your eye? I see floaters (light patches) and my eye leaks, it’s weird because when reading I skip past words when reading i hope there is a way to heal it

Excellent presentation! What an amazing structure. Thank you for the excellent video Dr. Blackwell! but I am a bit in disaccord with you that astigmatism is not a disease but an abnormality , if you believe in statistics you would agree with me , how come that According to an American study published in Archives of Ophthalmology, nearly three in 10 children (28.4%) between the ages of five and 17 have astigmatism.[15] A recent Brazilian study found that 34% of the students in one city were astigmatic .[16] Regarding the prevalence in adults, a recent study in Bangladesh found that nearly 1 in 3 (32.4%) of those over the age of 30 had astigmatism.[17] these statistic were taken from wikipedia question that is raised then could it be that nearly 30% of american kids have the astigmatism, as an abnormality caused by heredity ? answer I do not think so just because the percentage is too high and because I am suspecting a substance that is used as a food additive Amorphous silicon dioxides have been used for more than four decades as food additives (E551). They can be added to certain powdery foods such as table salt, seasonings, dietary supplements, and dry foods [3] to avoid clogging In conclusion This is really a serious health issue because astigmatism can lead to myopia which according to wikipedia myopia has been increasing so rapidly throughout the developed world, environmental factors must be more important. and the final warning call is that the food industry should stop adding the substance to the food they are making and people should be careful about what they are eating and giving to their kids
@CheekyGal301
@CheekyGal301 3 жыл бұрын
What studies or even plausible explanations do you have to show astigmatism is caused by amorphous silicon dioxide? It is not always a hereditary abnormality, it can just occur as the ocular components grow and change in the eye. Also in that case, how does silicone dioxide also cause a general shift from WTR astigmatism and ATR with age?

@@mouleoub Why silicon dioxide specifically out of everything? I do agree with you on food/environment being a key factor in health though. I've noticed most diseases can be traced to some nutrient deficiencies or excess in something else. Hippocrates was right when he said, "let food be thy medicine"...

@@weneedmoreconsideratepeopl4006 Silica NPs (SiNPs) are widely utilized in biomedical applications due to their unique chemical and physical properties [5,6]. The safety of SiNPs is becoming a concern of an increasing number of people [7]. The influence of SiNPs on basic biology, medicine and agro-nanoproducts was recently reviewed [8]. Epidemiological studies have drawn inconsistent conclusions regarding amorphous silica toxicity [9]. SiNPs interact with the immune system in many ways for more reading www.futuremedicine.com/doi/10.2217/nnm-2018-0076 I am not expert in biotechnology but i suspect silicon dioxide to be the primary cause of the increase of astigmatism among kids
