I have a very similar rooster I got from Mount Healthy in the US. Calm not aggressive and beautiful. The hens are great layers 210 plus big medium eggs a year. They sit on my lap. I live in California. My grandmother had barred rocks. If you don't care about being breed true, then the following are great egg laying chickens: the cross breeds. iSA, dekalb, bovans : going under many different names. A great mention to Australorps, a great chicken too.

I had a Barred Rock rooster who would walk up and into the house everyday and I would give him a treat. He would let me pick him up and hold him. He was a big baby, but was so large and fearsome looking! I would take him to church events and the kids would all come up and take turns holding him. He was a love! His name was Henny Penny. I thought I had all hens-- but nope!
