I have understood verse 28 also as a list in order of importance at first but after more studying I understood it is not by order of importance as in Ephesians 4:11 you have another list in a different order so a specific importance by order is not what Paul meant when he wrote the list. Also the pastor does say one gift is not more important than another as all are from the Holy Spirit and are received through faith. The gift of salvation (Ephesians 2:8) is the one gift that everyone needs to be saved and from there comes a new life with Jesus and one builds from there. Spiritual gifts have the purpose to edify the Church. Tongues is a gift that edifies the one that has the gift but can also work for edification of another when interpretation is also given. What I am trying to say is that all gifts should be viewed the same - as gifts from the Holy Spirit- and all gifts are good for us because they connect us with God on a more personal level so they can influence our relationship with Christ more (in a positive way). God bless you!

Yes! I have taught these chapters exactly as per Gary, but not as well. I consider the gifts of the spirit to be like a shed full of power tools. The workman needs to know they are there and how to use them. However, you cannot use them whenever you want to, Jesus works them through us. I see this as mainly God-incidences. You cannot turn them on or make them happen. Jesus does it. The false teaching that everyone should speak in tongues seems to come from the fact that God gave that gift to the twelve, and then to the Gentiles, in Acts. But this was only to convince the Jews, in Acts 11:15, that "the Holy Spirit came on them as he had come on us at the beginning." Acts is history, it is mainly descriptive, not prescriptive. In 1 Cor, Romans and Ephesians we learn that there are many other and greater gifts. And Jesus "gives them to each one, just as HE determines" 1 Cor 12:11. Many pastors are leaving their flocks ignorant of those three vital areas: End Times, Israel and the Gifts of the Spirit. Thank you, Gary. Tony England

Your explanation is better than Hamrick's in this setting. Though I believe that those practicing 'tongues' today (which wasn't 'gibberish' in the 1st Century, but actual foreign languages) are not doing it of God, nor in Christ. What's so challenging for Christians to admit/confess that Tongues Ceased after the complete Canon of Sacred Writ is given to us??? Life is much sweeter if we all agree on that truth - no harm done AND we're spared the garbage of the false teaching of people's mere 'feelings' (rather than sound doctrine, and sound minds).

There are 3 distinctly different manifestations of the gift of tongues identified in scripture. 1) As a message to the church accompanied by interpretation (not translation) 2) Prayer language, (tongues of angels). 3) foreign language to communicate with another culture.

NOPE, disagree Pastor Hamrick. You can have a sermon about how something is not, as John MacArthur did. I’m sure Pastor Mac in preaching about what isn’t also spoke about what is. I have heard Pastor Mac speak about the spiritual gifts, I he mostly speaks about speaking in tongues and how today people are false in that. For me, I do believe the spiritual gifts exist today, as you have said… even speaking in tongues. I do disagree with Pastor Mac. I disagree with Pastor Mac in his view of Isreal and the tribulation. I take a pre-trib view and he does not. Anyway, you are one of my go to Pastors and so is Pastor Mac. God bless 🙏🏽

Love your teaching on this. I am a cessastionist but believe we can still love as brothers. Always afraid when say gift of Apostleship is still available with the NAR movement beliefs....and I believe God still uses people to heal but not the gift of healing to a person to use anytime....or else why are those with the gift not going in the cancer hospital and healing every child? Just think if all of these gifts still available (those I would call the sign or Apistoluc gifts) not being seen in our churches? Yes, someone might say healed by a person from a backache or stomach ache, but not why someone like Justin Peters or Joni Erikkson Tada standing up and walking? Not enough faith to be healed? Lots of abuse, I agree. Not hard right or left, just different interpretation..can agree to disagree
@GodofDisco4 күн бұрын
The problem here is a misunderstood christology of suffering. Some people get healed of serious ailments, others do not. God is sovereign. There are two paths when not healed of a serious ailment. You have the path of Jesus Christ, the path of men like Nick Vujicic who accept that they can glorify God in the midst of their sickness without becoming bitter or denying the gifts exist or the path of men like Justin Peters who become imbittered by their personal experience of not getting healed and deny that God heals altogether. For a man like Peters to be right no one has to have ever been healed of anything serious, it's preposterous and easily disproved by church history. I personally know his stories to be false, he claims no one has ever actually gotten out of a wheelchair at one of those events over the long-term but I've actually witnessed exactly what he claims to be false over the long-run. This doesn't mean everyone gets magically healed nor does it excuse heretics who are RAMPANT in those circles (I'm a calvary chapel guy, we avoid those people) but any one of us who have ever experienced something outside the box of the cessationist belief system simply know it to be false and could never be convinced otherwise as it's not a matter of pure reason, the theology of suffering answers why some are healed and others are not, it is not related to someone's faith.

Christianity would be much better represented if the "big voice" online pastors stopped naming and shaming each other unnecessarily. There was no need to bring up John MacArthur as a talking point in this sermon. It didn't add any value to the teaching. Instead it was a distraction to the Bible and a reflection of spiritual immaturity in a world so desperate for truth and light. Do better, Pastor Gary.

Seems a shame that such a good Pastor/Bible preacher finds it necessary to disrespect a wonderful (best of our lifetime, bar none) brother-in-Christ, most excellent Pastor-Teacher (of 'Grace to You' and Master's Seminary and MacArthur Study Bible fame). All that shows about you, Pastor Hamrick, is that you still have some lessons to learn. You falsely state that Pastor MacArthur teaches that ALL Gifts have ceased - that's not only absurd, it's deceptive (a lie). I didn't realize that you have such a large gap in your sense of self or confidence that you have to try to insult and/or drag down another minister. MacArthur teaches that only 'tongues' and prophecy have ceased. He is correct; get with the truth.
