Awesome tips! I'm going to make all of these to streamline my builds. But, the hole saw bit sometimes will drift if you don't pay attention. So I'm going to add a drill block to the hole jig to make a small pilot hole, that way the hole saw bit won't drift. Thanks for the great ideas!!!

Great ideas. I suggest that instead of marking the hole spot with a pencil, you drill the hole instead. Then when you use your big bit it fits in the hole and you don't have to line it up before drilling. Definitely a lot of things to use to make it easier. Good job

Great video. I learned several things to use going forward. I do have one question though. Instead of the center marking jig, why not take a piece of 24”x24” plywood with a 6” hole in it, and clamp it to the board as a guide for your hole saw? It seems faster than marking the center and then drilling, plus it would make it easier to keep the hole saw in line as well as reduce tear out.
@SimpleWoodShop4 жыл бұрын
Hey, Thanks for watching and glad you got something out of it. The jig you are mentioning is a good idea if you have a hole saw with a short arbor (drill bit looking thing). Here is what I mean, my hole saw has a arbor that extends about 2" below the saw itself. In order to get the saw to line up with the walls of the jig I would have to guess the center of the jig circle and would only be able to tell if it was aligned once the saw got down to the jig. If it wasn't aligned I might hit the jig with the saw and damage the measurements. There is a type of hole jig like you are mentioning but uses a router to cut the hole rather than a hole saw. You place the jig on the top, and depending on the but you have drill a starter hole in the deck for the router bit to go through or just plunge cut the bit into the deck. Then run your router around the edges of the jig and your hole is cut. The tear out isn't much of an issue because I sand down the hole edges after I round over the hole in another step. Thanks again for watching, lots of people making and we are all in this together.

I'm totally new to making cornhole boards, or woodworking in general and I've been racking my brain trying to come up with a jig for my legs and you just solved it for me. Thank you so very much. my question is, to save time and even more frustration on my behave, can you share how you made the leg jigs? measurements of where were to place the hole and how to place the drill block and how you attached the pieces of wood that holds the jig in place. I'll be going right after work today to buy that drill block.

Just built my first cornhole board as a wedding gift for my daughter. I took the time and drew it up and cut the parts using a CNC. You talk about speed, repeatability and precision that’s the way to go if you have one. I am using 3/4” premium Baltic birch for everything. My suggestion to you is using a jig to drill the hole in the leg instead of the side. It wont matter if the leg is right or left handed. After the hole is bored simply place your spacer and the appropriate leg in position and finish boring the hole in the side and your done. No need for cumbersome jigs. As simple as these are I am thinking about just making a kit a person can assemble and finish them self’s.

Are you using a 4x8 CNC or something smaller?

Hi, very great informational video! One question how far back from the front of the frame do you go for your legs holes? Thanks in advance! Legs are always a nightmare lol
@SimpleWoodShop4 жыл бұрын
Hey Dustin, Thank you. When I started I found the legs to be tedious. Glad the video is helpful. For the legs I place a 2x4 sideways for a spacer block (1.5") from the back brace. The leg goes right up against the block and then I use the leg jig in the video. The 1/4" bolt is about 4" from the back brace or so. Centered on the frame.

Great advice...Do you make the legs in bulk with the angles cut? Do you have a jig to make just the legs? Thanks for the tips!!
@SimpleWoodShop4 жыл бұрын
Morning, Thanks for watching I appreciate it. I don't have a jig to make the legs. They are 45's at the top and I believe the angle on the foot is 31.6 (?) it's a standard stop on my miter saw. I use a template and batch out the legs all at once. So I set my saw up for the length, then cut the 45's then I cut the bottom angle, and last I round over the edges and sand.
@billyvelardo26124 жыл бұрын
What do you cut your legs to? This is the only problem I have in making the legs. Everything is the same but, for some reason my angle is always off and I'm never on the 12" I need! TIA!!
@SimpleWoodShop4 жыл бұрын
Hey Billy, That can be frustrating. I had the same issue to figure out. Check a couple things first. Assemble a full frame and deck without legs. Prop up the back of the board to the correct height 12" or so with a bucket or scrap wood. Make sure it is on a flat surface and the board\frame isn't warped. The length of the legs and angle are all dependent on where you are attaching the legs (bolt) on the frame. So find the center of your frame where you want the bolt to go through and drill that hole first. One you have the hole you will now have the pivot point. Cut your leg about 14" (longer than necessary) and drill the hole in the leg and attach it with the bolt to the frame. You'll need to trim the top of the leg off so it can rotate freely. Usually 33 or 45 degree cuts are good. At this point your leg is too long but all you need to do is slide the frame so the leg hangs over the edge of your table and draw the line where your leg and table meet. That should give you the proper angle. Make sure your leg is all the way back and touching the back brace of the frame. So you have no play. Cut that leg and use it as a template. Do a couple of tests and you should be good. Our legs are rough cut to 12" and trimmed to approx 11.75" so I am able to maximize an 8' board. If you need any more help please ask. We are here to help, thanks.

If you guys insert bushings into your jigs you could make one leg jig than can do both sides and wouldn’t drilling a hole to mark center for your 6” hole be more accurate and easier to a-line your hole saw with instead of a pencil mark?
@SimpleWoodShop4 жыл бұрын
Hey, Thanks for watching. You could install the bushing (metal tube) into the 1/4" drill slot that would be good. One of the things I like about the milescraft drill block is the straightness of the cut. I wondering if the bushing approach would yield a straight hole. You could drill the hole if you wanted, just another drill\setup for the process. That would work.

How did you make the frame jig
@SimpleWoodShop3 жыл бұрын
Hi, Best way would be to take our already built frame and lay it on a piece of 2x4 ply. Then you can position the little stop blocks on the corners and sides to match what you make. glue\screw them to the 2x4 frame and you should be good to go. Just leave a little space so you can pull your built frame out.
@josephm74134 жыл бұрын
What do you make your legs out of and what is the spacer measurements.
@SimpleWoodShop4 жыл бұрын
Hi, Thank you for watching. The legs we use now are made from 1x4 select or choice pine. The space block is about 1.5" thick. You will have to match your spacer to your legs. So the wider your spacer block the longer your leg and more of a shallower angle you will have. We just leave them long enough to be able to rotate inside the frame so they are about 12" when they are trimmed down to the final length. I appreciate the view and if you can subscribe that would be great also. Let me know if you have more questions. www.etsy.com/listing/900536920/cornhole-leg-install-jig-with-template
