Another well done video. I learned most of this the hard way, but having a tough competitor ( my hubby) and watching him play has helped me improve a lot. Still havent beaten him though. Hard to do against a guy who ussually throws 3 or 4 bags in the hole and more than half of his airmails go in....

Love your videos. Definitely the best on KZbin. Quick question: in leagues and tournaments, do you recommend putting up blockers after you get say a 3pt or more lead, or just keep gunning for the hole? Thanks!
@Joe2Jock
@Joe2Jock 4 жыл бұрын
Great question. I think it depends on the level of your opponent, their normal playing style (slider or lobber) and how confident you are that you'll keep holing bags. If I jumped out to an early lead on someone who I thought was likely to outplay me most of the time I MIGHT be inclined to play blockers and make it tough on them to score, especially if they're the type that likes to slide the bags in. Maybe even just bring my height up a little bit to make sure if I miss it's short and in front of the hole instead of long. But if I felt good and felt I was throwing better I would keep my foot on the gas and keep trying to hole bags.
@michaelminnie8925

Joe2Jock yeah I played this guy Monday who was on fire. I was down 6-1 a few times and didn’t know if I should try to put a blocker up or hole them to keep up with him. He should’ve been playing in the higher league. It was a case of he was on fire and I was off. Lol. I just need to practice blockers more, so I have those when my hole shot is off. Do you aim at the hole or middle of the board for your slide hole shot?
@michaelminnie8925

Guy was getting 10-12pts every time. Thus I was the nail in this case. Haha
@Joe2Jock
@Joe2Jock 4 жыл бұрын
@@michaelminnie8925 Haha, yeah that would be tough to overcome for almost any player! As for what I look at - I personally look at the hole, or more specifically left center of the hole on the left side, and right center of the hole on the right. Since my arm is never directly in line with the center of the board, the bag will lightly slide right when you throw from the left and left when you throw from the right because the board is tilted (moreso with fast bags / slick boards because the bag slides farther). It's honestly not much, but if you are way out at the outside edge of the box on the right side it SHOULD slide left more when it hits and vice versa. That's probably way overthinking it, but I suppose that's why I make videos haha - I try to think of every fundamental that affects a game or sport. But, short answer - I look at the hole for holer shots and I look at the spot on the board where I want my blocker when I throw those.
@michaelminnie8925
@michaelminnie8925 4 жыл бұрын
Joe2Jock Good advice as far as aiming left or right a little. I throw a line drive back, so I think I’m going to switch to aiming towards the middle of the board until I get my shots up. I practiced 10 rds earlier w both aiming options and kept more on while aiming at the center. Also like the idea of it coming up short and being an unplanned blocker or a push shot vs line driving it off the back lol. Thanks again!!

Hi mike n. I've been playing with the Ultra Vipers and Black Widows. I like both quite a bit. I've also got a set of Reynolds Pro X that are pretty good. The Vipers just seem to crawl into the hole so well, but your throw has to be on point because they are pretty floppy. The Game Changer gets a lot of love as well. I'd honestly try the Reynolds if you want something in the $50 range, Ultras if you don't mind doubling that.

@Joe2Jock
@Joe2Jock 4 жыл бұрын
Man, that's a tough ask Caleb lol. Pretty hard to curve one without some wind. Flop shots are essentially a result of the type of bag you play with. Some of the fatter, stickier ones will have more of a tendency to flop over if you're looking to bounce one.
@KitchenFamilyFarm
@KitchenFamilyFarm 4 жыл бұрын
Joe2Jock Joe2Jock I don’t really know how to do it I just know it’s possible. I’ve played against people who simply curve it around my blocks or just bounce/flop over it. Never even needing to throw the airmail. When I was beginning I thought it was all luck but I’ve since learned it’s a practiced shot. There’s videos of Ryan Windsor consistently throwing them on KZbin but I don’t know how he does it. Search “curveball cornhole” should be the first video.

The "curving" video is not actually curving the bag. He just uses spin from the bag to direct it. Same principle as a good ball. Enough side spin will move the bag to the side after it hits the board. For golf, enough back spin will make the ball come back toward you a little.

Hello I am relatively new but I am having a hard time keeping my bags flat when I throw
@Joe2Jock
@Joe2Jock 5 жыл бұрын
Hi MrCreek15, have you watched the Beginner Cornhole video I posted? If so, and you're still having trouble, tell me a few things. How are they flying? Are they nose up or nose down? Are they tilted too much to the side? Or are they inconsistent? Throwing a perfectly flat bag is not paramount to playing great cornhole, but throwing a CONSISTENT bag is. If you'll notice in the video many of mine were flying slightly nose down and tilted a tiny bit left. As long as I'm in a controlled environment (inside or not in wind) that's fine. I just want a comfortable and consistent throw. If I'm trying to think about my mechanics I can't throw the bag without tension, much like swinging a golf club or shooting free throws, etc. If you can tell me more about how they're flying I might be able to help with technique to practice, and if you send me an email at satherton@joe2jock.com I can have you download an app that will let you send me a video. I'm sure I can help!

@@Joe2Jock I've learned a lot from this video and your beginner one... I do have a question when playing are you mostly using the slippery side down or mostly with the sticky side down? (I understand that certain scenarios require one or the other side) but just wondering what you typically throw facing down--------thanks!
@Joe2Jock
@Joe2Jock Жыл бұрын
@@kkthomas6 I'd say I take a few factors into consideration, but MOSTLY I play slick side down because I tend to slide my bags more, and the Ultra bags I play tend to "drip" into the hole better on the slick side. If I'm on really fast boards I would probably go sticky side down. That also depends on HOW sticky the sticky side is :-)

What happens if you throw a bag it bounces off ground and still manages to get on board slides up board and knocked a bag in the hole, would someone still get the point for the other bag that got knocked in?
@Joe2Jock
@Joe2Jock Жыл бұрын
Great question. I'd have to go look at the official rules, but I'm 99% sure you'd replace the bag that got knocked in and it would not count. By the same token if the bag that hit the ground ended up knocking an opponents bag off the board they should not be penalized for the bad bag.

@Joe2Jock
@Joe2Jock 4 жыл бұрын
Couple ideas. There are actual airmail "boxes" you can buy or build that help you practice those. Also you could place a small basket or a pot that is slightly bigger around than the 6" cornhole on the ground and work on tossing them in that first. Start a couple steps closer, see how many out of 10 you can make. Then move back.

@steveatherton5812 4 жыл бұрын
Hi yvan, how much do you think you'll play? Do you plan on playing mostly games in the back yard, BBQ etc or do you want to try to play tournaments? If it's the back yard type I would get something like this for $50 / 8 bags. www.slickwoodys.com/collections/cornhole-bags/products/all-weather-resin-filled-pro-cornhole-bags If you're hoping to play some tournaments then the options are really endless, but you'd be looking at closer to $50 for a set of 4 bags, and you'd want to try several kinds to find ones that fit your throwing style - slider, higher lob, blocker, etc. Personally I just got a set of Reynolds Pro X bags that I like, and you can order those in sets of 4. Most ACL pros have a few sets with different characteristics for different boards. The AllCornhole Game Changers get rave reviews as well.
@steveatherton5812
@steveatherton5812 4 жыл бұрын
I should add that regardless of tournament play or not, I would find bags that are resin filled so they do better in damp conditions and last a bit longer, and I would always get the stick and slide bags that have one faster side and one sticky side. Once you play with that type of bag you'll never go back to full canvas bags.
