@@tonym3995 Oh man - bags are SO much personal choice. Depends a lot on your style of play - do you slide and like them to "drip" and play fast, or do you like them chunky and sticky etc. Personally I play with Ultra Vipers and Black Widows, but there are so many good ones out there. Reynolds, Game Changers, etc. Unfortunately it's hard to find them to try out unless you try a buddies at league or something. You can find the official boards at shop.iplayacl.com and westgeorgiacornhole.com has some good options!

Every player has a routine and technique, just like horse shoes. All are right and all are wrong depending on how it works for you. It also depends on the finish on the boards because if they are waxed or polished then you need a higher arc coming down to stop the sliding. Too fast and it sails right over the hole and off the board. Kids have this problem because they throw it too low and fast like a softball pitch. Remember that it needs to stay on the board or into the hole to count so anything to counteract the slide will help. Guy I know who is master of all yard games so long as drinking is involved holds the bag like a tissue, pinching it on the center so it dangles like a teardrop. Launches it with a high arc and it drops down in place with razor precision every time. He gets 3 out of 4 holes per 4 bags, EVERY time. Then again everything I just said you pretty much covered, I have a bad habit of starting a response before watching the whole vid!

I'm a beginner and I think this is a great video. My question is how can I tell if I am using the right bags for me. I bought the Fire Blaze and when i hit the boards the bag slides off a lot. Doesn't seem to grab to well. I've been practicing a lot so I believe the bags are broken in. I am still working hard on throwing the bag flat. This video will help me a lot. Could these bags I am using too much for a beginner to use?
@Joe2Jock
@Joe2Jock 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Lynn - yeah it's always interesting finding the right bags for the boards you play often. Too slick and it's hard to stop them, but too sticky and they clog up the hole a lot - the slick ones tend to kind of drip into the hole better. If you don't feel comfortable putting more height into your throw, then I'd find some with a stickier side. Just be careful - if you go too sticky they'll flip over when they land. Sometimes you have to try other peoples' bags or buy a few sets to find the right fit.

New to game. Video was very helpful. I am wondering about where to focus eyes when throwing "slider bags" ? I have been told to look at back of hole and by others to focus on spot on board you want to hit.
@Joe2Jock
@Joe2Jock 4 жыл бұрын
Good question Bud. To me it depends a lot on how slick the boards are, and how slick the bags are that I'm using. If they're really fast I actually look at a spot a tiny bit shorter on the board, and slightly off center right or left (I'm talking 1-2") depending on which side of the board I'm throwing from because the bags slide farther and therefore also turn a bit more. If the boards / bags aren't that fast I start trying to release my palm up directly at the front of the hole. If I come up a bit short too often I might move my focus to the back of the hole. Hope that helps!

Question. So if it's a team of 2 and 2, does 1 on each team throw after each other? Is score taken after both have thrown? If I throw my 4 bags do I leave them on board and then the other team goes? or do I remove and then let other team go. Sorry trying to get it right. Great video btw. Thank you.
@Joe2Jock
@Joe2Jock 5 жыл бұрын
Good questions! The link in the description will have all the rules. BUT yes a player from team 1 throws one bag first, then a player from team 2 throws one bag and they alternate until each player has thrown all 4 of their bags. Then the net score is taken. Only one team scores in a given round, or no team scores if they tie. The team that scores in the round will be the team to throw first in the next round. Hope that helps!
@Joe2Jock
@Joe2Jock 5 жыл бұрын
Also, you leave all the bags on the boards until the full round is over. The only time you remove one is if someone threw one that hit the ground first and bounced up on the boards

Talk about when to use slick or sticky side
@Joe2Jock
@Joe2Jock 2 жыл бұрын
Few scenarios for me at least. One is, for the board slickness I'm playing, which side let's me throw my normal throw and make bags without flying off or coming up short. Two is if I need to set up blockers I'll throw sticky, or if I'm trying to go airmail I'll throw sticky so it has a chance to stay on the back if I miss. And I always prefer slick side for normal throws if I can because the bag will drip into the hole better on the slick side.

@Joe2Jock 5 жыл бұрын
Hi Jeffrey. Good question. To be fair, I try to play aggressively and rarely throw blockers. BUT for a lot of people who are getting into the game there will be times that the opponent is just more skilled at throwing holers. When that's the case and they are getting outscored playing offense, I recommend throwing a blocker for two reasons. First, a blocker is a pretty safe shot that is more likely to stay on the board. When you throw at the hole and miss there is a decent chance the bag goes off the back, and missing the board is almost always costly. Second, when you have a good blocker in play you increase the chances that the opponent will throw it off the back if they try to go over the blocker. Now you have at least a one point advantage and can try to "slow the game down" and pick at their lead. There are definitely times when throwing good blockers will allow you to slowly beat a better opponent. At a very high level they're still likely to airmail them and you're in deep trouble no matter what you do haha.

Great video. Was searching for something like this last summer when I started. I feel like I'm throwing my bags too high when I compare it to others. I don't have a heavy spin to slow it down when I throw it lower. Can anyone help?
@Joe2Jock
@Joe2Jock 5 жыл бұрын
Great question. Typically the spin doesn't do much to slow it down when it hits. It moreso affects stability in the air. The "stick" has more to do with the material of the bags, the finish of the boards, and the trajectory. Of course the boards and bags always change depending on where you're playing. One thing you can do if you're having trouble sliding them off the back is put something tall in the middle of the throwing area and practice throwing over it and landing them softly. Or set up with a bush or something in the middle and throw over it. The spin IS good in many ways, so it's also beneficial to work on that as well.

Thanks for the video. By the way, do you throw all 4 bags or alternate.
@Joe2Jock

You alternate each throw. You throw one, competitor throws one, etc.

@Joe2Jock Nice boards. What did you us to finish them? I just made a set and finished with gloss polyurethane but they seem way too slippery.

Hi Bobby, I honestly don't remember. I made them probably 8 years ago. I looked up a tutorial online and followed it with my own design for the stain on the top. I remember there being two choices - polyurethane and something else. One of them people said tends to turn yellow so I didn't use that. Might have been a semi-gloss poly? They have lost some "shine" and speed over the years, but still play pretty well. Definitely middle of the road as far as speed goes. Sorry I can't help more.

Looking around for a minute, it seems Polycrilic was the other finish, which is water-based. I believe I probably used the Polyurethane, but maybe didn't do as many layers. I'd play on them a while and see if the slow down a touch as the bags leave some dirt and residue on them.

@@Joe2Jock Yeah I'm going to try to dial it down a bit with satin or semi-gloss poly and research a bit more. I just started and don't have too great of a throw, but getting 1s are almost impossible at 27' at the moment. Thanks for the videos and help.

Semi gloss polycrylic is what is used by most board builders.

Not in regulation cornhole rules. One on the board, three in the hole - that's it.

Joe, what reasonably priced boards & bags do you recommend ? Slide Rite bags from AllCornHole are $65 for a set, would you recommend them ? How much are the boards you use ? Are the cheaper unfinished boards just as good as the more expensive finished boards ?

Hi LG3. Lots of good questions there. I've hear really good things about the Slide Rites. At $65 a set of 8 that's a pretty good bag. I also have sets from BGboards.com that I like. I think it depends on how into the game you think you might get. For general backyard use up to advanced intermediate play the Slide Rites should be great. Nowadays people are just buying sets of 4 of several different brands / types and using different ones each tournament depending on the board conditions - a lot like bowling where pros use different balls for different lane conditions. But I don't think you can go wrong with the Slide Rites at that price. As for the boards, I built my set. I've got a buddy who makes really high end boards. He says baltic birch 3/4" top and baltic birch frames are the way to go because 2x4's will warp. He did mention that westgeorgiacornhole.com makes some nice boards with reasonable shipping rates. I'd say any good set will have some kind of finish on them (like a polycrilic) to make them hold up to weather and slide fast and smooth. The only other thing you're paying for on a finished set is a logo or design. Hope that helps.

I am going to play in a tournament for charity. I have never played before...At least I will go into the event with a clue. It should be funny to see if I can even get on the board.
