If she is the one doing this project why is she not doing all the work? I haven't seen her touch one of those rods through the whole thing. All I've seen her do is stand around and tell him where to place everything. All she can take credit for in my opinion is the drawing. This I feel should be George's project since he's the one doing all the work. It is George right? It is interesting although I do see quite a few flaws. Not trying to be mean it's just my opinion. Which I hope will be ironed out in the finished product.

We can all see that someone messed up by not moving pieces from cold side to hot side of garage. Whole project in jeopardy!

I understand this was a experimental piece and a first for everyone, but I personally felt that the quality could have been done better. The two major flaws I observed was the inner bowl rim was warped and should have been an easy fix to correct it so the image at the bottom could be seen better. The same can be said about the outer bowl rim as well. I am sure if they attempt to make another one, these imperfections would be addressed. Otherwise a great video. I'm a collector of Steuben glass for decades, so please don't take my comments as being critical. I just know what Corning is capable of creating of the highest caliber. I think George was having an off night, hell we all do.

lawrencet83 Points well taken. However, I believe that Steuben glass pieces most collectors could obtain would have gone through a manufacturability phase after this level of experimentation. You know a lot more about collecting than I do, but I still think you may be comparing apples to oranges here.

Why do the use the blowtorch before they go into the furnace?
@corningmuseumofglass
@corningmuseumofglass 7 жыл бұрын
They use the large propane powered torch to keep certain areas of the glass warm while other areas cool down. This way when they go back into the reheating furnace, the glass is not all the same temperature and certain areas will warm up faster.
