There is so much amazing content on KZbin these days. With videos like this to watch, I can't fathom why people waste one second watching idiotic cat videos or narcissistic vlogs. Imagine what it would have taken in just the recent past to have to travel to Murano to watch glass blowing like this, and I can sit here in my pajamas with a cup of tea and enjoy it. Thank you Corning for sharing this, and all of the fascinating content on your channels with us. Next time I'm in the north east, I'll be sure to visit you guys.

I know I'm 6yrs too late to be asking this question, but why is there no narration or instruction from the Gaffer? I'm guessing all the students are visual learners and are good at guessing what he is doing. I'm sorry but after 30mins of him not saying anything I just jumped straight to the end of the video to see how the piece turned out. 🤷🏾‍♂️

+Adeline Evans I agree, he looks stupid. The funny part is he starts with only a couple buttons open. Then after awhile a few more are unbuttoned then all of them. I don't know if he thinks he has the body to do that, but he doesn't . I also think he looks very unprofessional, he is taking part in a video that represents the CMOG and he looks like he is going for a day at the beach.

a hot shop is exactly that, super hot, it houses furnaces that need to be on for days and weeks at a time, standing in front of said furnaces is hot as hell, why they have solid steel doors that slide away, these furnaces get the glass hot almost instantly to working temp. its very hot in these places

Glass in general is not safe. I've had my buddies catch themselves on fire doing it. If you are looking for a safe job, it is not glassblowing. Thankfully I have never caught myself on fire doing it.

+DaVido I've seen much worse camerawork in glassblowing videos. Some cameramen seem to have a talent for photographing worker's backsides, especially every time something important comes together.

Weird. All through the demo both the green glass and the blue glass looked green to me. Then at the end the completed works looked turquoise blue with no green.

I can't believe someone hasn't invented a simple clutch and gearing assembly to allow these things to coast at a spin when they are't being actively worked. Or to spin at high/low gearings with smaller motions.

Because the glass is always cooling down and you constantly need to change your turning speed to adjust to the temperature of the glass. What you are thinking of is possible if you had a laser system to measure the temperature of the glass and change the speed according to the temperature but that is too much work when it could just be done by hand
