The Branch lines are so very pretty in Cornwall & this one brings back many happy memories. It was such a gentle video with lots of interest. Clever editing certainly brought the story to life and your banter and laughter gives us such pleasure. Your doggie seems to have enjoyed his day as well and a great addition to your team, I am sure he enjoyed the train ride as much as you did. Again Thank you 10/10

Gorgeous combo of a scenic train journey and a scenic walk...double treat! Calstock looks so pretty - especially with the cheerful pastel paint colours on the buildings. The wall plaques with the history of each building is such a good idea. Will definitely be trying that one when next in Cornwall. You two always find interesting, quirky and fascinating details wherever you go...love it :) x

Andrew and Sarah - What a lovely, lovely video! One of the best, but having said that, everyone is lovely and on a lovely sunny day too. In some ways it was like going back in time. What a lovely village Calstock is. Love the name plaques on the buildings.You really are doing your best to keep us all in touch with our beloved Cornwall. Thank you 🙏 PS: We don't know what your doggy's name is but we thought it might be a good idea for him to give a "Bye Bye" bark at the very end of the videos. Lots of love xx

Hi Sarah and Andrew, fantastic video; I love the Tamar Valley area, and the Danescombe Valley and Calstock are lovely. It's well worth exploring the Devon side too, opposite Gunnislake and Calstock there's a wealth of trails along the valley down to Morwellham Quay and up to Devon Great Consols Mine. Many thanks.
@CornishWalkingTrails4 жыл бұрын
Hi there! Hope you are well! With your wide knowledge of Cornwall, you may be just the person to answer a mystery! We noticed that Danescombe had two spellings. The old signs and the ordnance spell 'Danescoombe', i.e. double 'o', but the National Trust properties and google have only a single 'o'. Are you aware of anything? Sarah
@cebusapella91254 жыл бұрын
@@CornishWalkingTrails Hi there, I'm only aware of the Danescombe spelling, but the name comes from 'Danes' Coombe' (which means 'Valley of the Danes',), and the spelling of place names tends to change over time. I'm guessing the 'Danescoombe' you saw is just an older spelling.

Another wonderful episode! Although my wife Tracey and I regularly travel across the border by train into lovely Cornwall, often the stunning St. Ives, we have yet to visit Calstock or even ride on the Tamar Valley Line. However, after watching this, guess where we'll be heading for very soon after the lockdown? That view from the viaduct into Calstock looked stunning and we might just be following that walk of yours through Danescombe Valley as well. Thank you for this and we'll be looking forward to your next trip. Take care and stay safe x

To answer your question, I've never caught the train from Plymouth and ridden along the Tamar Valley Line, crossing the stunning Calstock viaduct, but this lovely video certainly makes it tempting. A visit to border country could well be in order! Haven't read that Sarah Foot book but love her work - she was a fine writer who really captured the spirit of old Cornwall.

Hi Sarah & Andrew just found your channel and really enjoying the content. Knowing your obvious love of local history I thought you might be interested that the Calstock Chip Shops almost certainly refer to the practice, common in mining communities, of paying the miners in "chips", (ie tokens) which they then exchanged for goods in local stores, known as chip shops. Nothing to do with fish n chips! Best Wishes John
