The countryside rivals Scotland for beauty, what an amazing walk in "sweltering" 20 degree weather.

Fantastic video from Tamar It is amazing that the line wasn’t closed during Mr Beaching

Thank you much for the lovely comment! As for the line, it did go further back in the day. But at least it remains today. I wonder that if it was closed, who would pay to keep the viaduct safe anyway?

What an enjoyable video! Things like this really do relax me. And as always the quality is very nice.

This is a branch line I haven’t done yet but looks very scenic. Thanks for the idea, great video 👍

Indeed it is. The view, either way, over the Calstock viaduct is one of those #trainwindowviews that everyone should experience at least once.

I travelled along this line in March 2022. Its a lovely ride and did a similar walk back from Gunnislake. Really recommend it, but only when it's dry and not too hot.

I did enjoy it, and the ice cream at the end! I’d driven to Calstock a few times before so it was great to do it by train this time. It was a lovely walk and, if you have time, you can also add another loop down to Cothele. I was thinking today that I need a nice Autumnal day soon to do another ride out, walk back!

I can think of one major plus point for Plymouth station - it's a way out from a dirty, dreary, depressing place as I remember it from a visit 25 years ago! And to much nicer places, as you showed here. Enjoyed th e video. (Sorry, Plymouth folk. Maybe you have to be local to love it).

I really couldn't possibly comment 😉 Thank you very much for watching and commenting. I really appreciate it, even if the whole of Plymouth does not 😂

Thank you for a superb video. This was the first line that I travelled on as a small child (we lived near Devonport Station at the time). I am now retired and live in southern Scotland and will be coming back to Devon for a stay at Bere Ferrers and plan to make some videos of the line for my YT channel. Best Wishes.

Best of luck with your videos. Should be some great content all along the line. It is very pretty (as you well know no doubt!) Thanks for watching this one 👍

I would like to see a video sometime on Starcross, and the buildings there. What really intrigues me however is the balcony on the building just after Starcross on the line towards Teignmouth. This must be the closest private building to a railway line anywhere in the UK. You could reach out from the balcony and touch the trains, but don't try this at home!

Ah well. There might be two vids that you haven’t watched that might be of interest. The ride out, walk back from Dawlish does end at Starcross and… The ride out, walk back on the Exe Estuary ends at Exton where the new house is right on the platform, with a sunset view to die for. Thanks as ever for your support and comments.

As always, a well-made video. I don't think i would try the walk; too much tarmac, and traffic. I would recommend the walk from Calstock to Cotehele, esp if you have NT membership. I don't mind retracing my steps to Calstock.
@JohnnyHooverTravels2 жыл бұрын
That’s a fair point. On a previous visit to Calstock I did just that. You can walk up to Cotehele, as you say, and then down to the quayside and back along the river.
