SUPERMAN (NES) - PLAY IT THROUGH

Hey everyone on this episode of Play it Through its Superman brought to us by Kemco for the NES. Superman tries some different things from your typical super hero based game however these different things doesn't make the game to much better. The game features five levels or missions to complete throughout metropolis which is a pretty big map to explore the issue is you find yourself traveling through the same screens back and forth over and over again. Superman's different powers bring a little flavor to the gamplay but overall the weak combat and repetitive screens can make the game dull. Enjoy

Thanks for making this video man. I played this game originally when it came out on the NES back in the day. The game actually has a decent story line, and strategy. I don't think it was a bad Superman game at all for it's time. Thanks again for posting this video. If not for people like you, then people like me wouldn't be able to relive a part of their childhood, and enjoy the memories of the good ole days. I salute you sir, and I am subscribing to you now. On a final note. I was happy to hear you talking during the game play. You were informative, and you added your own perspective to the game which I liked.

I remember playing this when I was 8yrs old. my mom worked at a video store. since me and my younger brother where fans of superman, she got this game from her job. was one of my favorite games at the time....

Batman always had more luck as far as games go. A fun fact: a good chunk of musical tracks/sound effects etc. were lifted from another, Japan-only game by the same developer, 'Indora no Hikari' (which is a rather sub-par RPG at best).

The reason everyone thinks that all the Superman video-games suck is because none of them "capture the spirit of the character". Now, I'm not a programmer, but to tell you the truth, a game that captured the spirit of Superman would be really boring as hell. Here's what a real Superman game would be like: You fly around beating up everyone and not taking any damage, then Lex Luthor shows up with a load of Green Kryptonite, and you automatically lose. The End. Does that sound like a fun game? No, it doesn't. I understand that people think a game where you get to be the real Superman would be fun, but it's not possible. A video-game needs to have difficulty, and you need to be able to lose. If you really want to feel like Superman, then get a Game Genie, Action Replay, or Game Shark, put in an invincibility code, and presto, you're the invincible, *REAL* Superman, and all the fun and challenge is gone.

This is definitely one of those games that unless you've memorized where to go and what to do you'll definitely need a walkthrough because it can be very confusing for the most part. Once you get past that it's not a bad game at all. Just wish the NES version had the John Williams music like the Famicom version does.

When I was a kid I could not figure out this game at all. It also ticks me off that the Japanese version has the correct music. Wonder if anyone has hacked this and game the US version the correct music.

Superman on the subway is funny enough, but he is only half the size of the door, making him approximately 3'4". One of the other people on the subway, who looks like nothing more than a shadow is twice his size, officially confirming that superman is a dwarf.

I loved this game as a kid. It's probably the best Superman game ever made, but thats not a high bar. Most Superman games are really really poor. So if it had more competition this probably wouldn't be the case. Part of me feels like this game could be remade/reimagined. Maybe with the adventure/investigation portions as Clark Kent and the action portions as Superman. The adventure portions I always really appreciated even though they are crude by todays standards.

I think the famicom version is better. In the famicom version jay falk is ross webster from Superman 3. Both the US and japan versions are basically the same. With some minor differences in the Japan version. I think this was a Japan only game at first. Then it got ported to the US. But they didn't do a very good job on the translations. There was also a strategy guide for the Japan version. The music on famicom is truly fantastic. With Superman music all throughout the game. I think they used the whole score. I was pleasantly surprised to hear the lex luthor music when I went underground to fight lex luthor. If you can get past the Japanese, it's definitely worth playing once.

I remember playing this as a kid. So much of it made no sense! The subway, the villains, the character models. I was 17 I think & so desperate for a Superman game. This was for a much younger audience. Had this & the Atari game. Not a good run for Superman. Only other game I played was the one for SNES.

This is the only Superman game where you can change back and forth between Clark Kent and Superman. Other Superman games never had that option on Sega Genisis and N64 and Playstation.

True. It's not just a beat em up. Though Cornshaq and other videos and text guides (like mine) tell you where to go and what to do, your job is to still be an investigative reporter even in your Superman getup. Therefore, yes, talking to people triggers future events just like in certain RPGs.

Level 1 is Zaora , or Zoara. Whatever. Level 2 is the Dragons Gang leader. Level 3 is Jay Falk from Superman 3. Level 4 is Lex Luthor. Level 5: Ursa, Non and General Zod.
