Thanks for that tour, Paul. I would imagine that it would be quite a contrast in summer! Lovely place, I've never visited Looe, another one to tick off my list!

Hello Paul - greetings from a very cold and snowy Poland (+minus 6 with 16cms of snow this Sunday morning) A very beautiful and relaxing video. I loved the light as you walked along the waterfront in East Looe. The sight and sounds of the sea were gorgeous. Seeing Looe very nearly desolate was amazing. I've only ever been there in the summer when it's heaving with visitors.

Thank you Michael! Wow! That's cold! Although it is going to get a lot colder here in Gloucestershire too later in the week. Yes, a stark contrast to summertime Looe - I much prefer it in the winter -there were still a couple of cafes open that myself and my daughter made good use of after filming. Glad you enjoyed it - we certainly enjoyed the wander there. Take care, Paul

Thank you! I find a lot of the world is too fast paced, noisy, aggressive and hostile these days. Creating these little videos with my camera and laptop is my way of escaping from it - glad you found it calming and relaxing too. Yes, Looe is a most charming place, particularly out of season. Take care, Paul

Good morning Paul. Nice little stroll around Looe. Nice to see the place without thousands of tourists milling about. I was surprised to see buses as it was Sunday, but as you said, it was only a two hourly service. I can't remember why they shortened the railway line, because I can remember it going much further down towards the town. Some of your monochrome pictures were quite beautiful! .

Thank you Lionel and Mary. Yes, the bus service is still quite good on a Sunday there. I think I said before that I hate driving these days, and I only drive when I can't get to places via public transport. I now catch the train to Cornwall when I stay down there. Busses and trains aren't too bad in Cornwall. Yes, it does seem a little odd that the railway was truncated! A garage and a GP surgery has been built on the site that you saw in the old photo that I showed. Glad you enjoyed the monochrome photos. Take care, Paul

Good evening Paul. A chilly and dreary Sunday was made bearable by watching this. I had a few names of places I wanted to visit while in Cornwall and Looe had a * next to it. Unfortunately it never eventuated. Through your lens I've now had a visit and even though being there is different, I thoroughly enjoyed this tour. What an enjoyable thing to do with your daughter. A special dad/daughter moment. Have a great week. 👌🇳🇿🙋‍♀🇳🇱

Delightful portrait of a beautifully old town. I particularly enjoyed your stunning images of the sky out to sea, and the B/W images of the town. At 15.30, there is a shot looking across the east beach towards several rows of houses. Cut into the cliff below the houses, appears to be a large stone or brick arch and I was wondering if you know what it is.
@westcountrywanderings
@westcountrywanderings 8 ай бұрын
Hello Malcolm! Yes, the arch in that shot (and a couple of others) were built when the coast road (a no through road) to Hannafore (where there is a great view towards Looe Island) was rebuilt and widened - I think at the end of the 19th Century. The black and white photos of the arches in the video though were built as an underpass going under the bridge in 1990. Thanks so much for your kind words. Take care, Paul

Hello Paul, many thanks for another enjoyable outing in the West Country. Once again, a town I didn't hear of when living abroad in the UK. Your videos are such a great way for me to see areas that I didn't get the opportunity to visit and some such as Looe that I never knew existed. I'm sure that like most quaint seaside towns in Cornwall it must be bustling during the summertime. I'm reminded of the many small fishing villages in New England where I'm from originally. Your photo at 18:40 is especially nice. A view that I'd like to see in person. Thank you again for sharing your Sunday morning tour of Looe with us here on KZbin. It was most definitely the highlight of my day. Much appreciated Paul. Take good care. Best wishes, Suzie

Thank you Suzie and great to hear from you! Yes, Looe isn't quite so well know as, say, St. Ives, Bude or Falmouth, but it still attracts a fair number of tourists in the peak season. However, I prefer it this time of the year. The view in the photo at 18:40 in the video is looking upstream and shows Killminorth Woods (on the left) - many footpaths extend through it, and across the stream that flows into the Looe River. I can imagine that there would be many similarities with fishing villages in New England - some settlers there would have come from Cornwall. I think there are some there named after places here. Thanks again, and I hope you are having a good week. Take care, Paul

@@westcountrywanderings Good morning Paul and thank you for your reply. Always so nice to hear from you. I appreciate the bits of information you add to your messages. It's a little extra bonus for me along with the facts in your videos. The footpaths in the woods you mentioned must make for an enjoyable stint of exercise whilst surrounded by nature with the addition of lovely scenery. You're correct in thinking that many of the New England fishing ports, towns, and cities have similarities to those in England and I'd imagine to Cornwall in particular. One of my favorite weekend drives up north was in Massachusetts to the coastal towns of Gloucester, Rockport, Plymouth, Salem, and Duxbury. I quite miss living in New England. The furthest west in England that I traveled to was along the southern coast to Weymouth, Bridport, Lyme Regis, and East/West Bexington. Then on other occasions to Yeovil, Taunton, Bridgwater, Sherbourne and the surrounding areas. I was looking forward to seeing the Cheddar Caves but unfortunately time didn't permit. Having to return to the States, I unfortunately missed out on visiting the west side of England. Thank goodness for coming upon your channel and being able to watch your fabulous videos. It appears that I have another one of your tours to view so I'll try to work it into my schedule for today. Have a wonderful rest of the week Paul and I'll be looking forward to wherever the road takes you next. As my colleagues in England would always say, "Mind how you go ......" Suzie

Thanks Paul. There is something about the light in Cornwall- St.Ives being the most famous example! That’s why so many artists flock there to capture that special effect. I was surprised by the warning notices at the beginning by the harbour. I naively didn’t realise boat theft was so prevalent! You can’t exactly make a quick getaway out of that harbour. I have never seen that anywhere else on my travels! It was so quiet- I liked the opening shot of the lady & her dogs walking across the ‘causeway’ & of the chevron style seating. Lovely to see Admiral’s Corner here!

@@dianarolph1770 Hello Diana! Yes, you are quite correct, the quality of light around Cornwall is rather special - a boon to both artists and photographers. Marine Crime, as it is termed by Devon & Cornwall Constabularly, is a huge and growing issue. When I worked in Falmouth, it was the commonest type of crime in the town. I really enjoyed my wander here with my daughter. More Cornwall adventures coming soon! Lovely to see Michael here too! Take care, Paul

Thank you Watto! Thanks for a lovely comment. Hope you have a good time - Dobwalls is a great base. I prefer South East Cornwall to the other bits - it has some real gems - don't forget to check out Lansallos beach, if you haven't already done so. I was there this time last year with my daughter and we had the beach to ourselves on a gorgeous sunny day (and quite warm too!). Kingsand, Cawsand and Mt Edgcumbe Country Park are all stunning as well. Take care, Paul

Hi Paul, A lovely day out in Looe, for some reason I thought it would be more industrial but its a lovely fishing port. The sounds were excellent, I hear the sound of Seaguls and I am always transported back to the holidays in Cornwall of my childhood! You took some great photos especially at the start with the reflection of the bare trees in mid winter. For a moment I thought the black and white photos were archive ones. Maybe this is a silly question but do you change settings in the camera to do black and white or is it simply done in the editting? I loved the glass designed by the local children, that really would be something for them to look back on, I couldnt work out quite what it was, a modern stained glass window perhaps? Have a great week!!
@westcountrywanderings
@westcountrywanderings 8 ай бұрын
Thank you David! Yes, it is a charming riverside and coastal Cornish town, but it doesn't (or sound!) like this in the summer. As you correctly worked out, the black & white images are one of the 'art' settings inside the camera - you can also make some in camera adjustments too, like contrast and grain. It is very useful, as it cuts down on photo editing time. I have a short bite photography video coming up which features more of them around Bath. There are lots of other settings you can use, but some are a bit gimmicky; others, like vivid HDR (which takes several images and combines them to increase dynamic range) are very useful. The stained glass was near the clock tower, and just shown on the wall there in a glass case - a lovely touch. I thought that they were quite charming. Thanks so much! Hope you are having a good week. Paul
