Hi João, I found you by coincidence, despite being from the same country! ;) Its always nice to see your videos, and to make the acquaintance of another Toyota enthusiast. Excellent work on this swap so far, I have the dream to do this to my EE101, but the conversion from a 4E-FE might be a little different, despite all the similarities between our original engines. And maybe I'll go with the silvertop, since it is the version that equipped the AE101 in Japan :) Just a small (professional) advice on the extra plug you bought for the idle up fuse: That connector is outside the relay/fuse box, and is in adverse conditions (moisture, humidity and water splashes even), so it should be rated as IP67 or higher, and it doesn't appear to be. If you are from the North (Porto or near), me and some friends would love to buy you a coffee or a dinner sometime and talk (and maybe see your progress). And sorry for seeing this videos only now, as an electric engineer, I could have helped you a lot with the wiring harness adaptations. Best Regards!

Hi, I note your schematic link no longer works, is there any chance you might be able to upload them again?

i dont know if you said it on another video but why did you choose the black top 4AGE and not the silver top? i have a 1993 geo prizm with a 4AFE motor that i wanted to do this swap on, and i was going for the silver top.

Rather than adding a separate fuse holder, why didn't you simply use an empty fuse spot in the fuse box? Then, all you would have needed to do is print a label for the inside of the fuse box lid and that would be that. Unless of course, there was none to use, but Toyota usually leaves a couple of blank spots for spare fuses.

Good idea, I thought of that. I may be missing something here, but there are no electrical contacts in the spares I checked. I mean, there is the plastic holder but no way to get electricity into a spare fuse :S

João Rocha da Silva Personally, I've never done it, but couldn't you simply cut out the bottom of the empty fuse holder and feed the wire in, in the same manner you have been swapping the pins thus far? Then all you have to do is connect the other end to a power source.

@MoleskineFan 10 жыл бұрын
The issue with that is that the fuse holder is over several layers of circuits that go the fuse box (check my disassembled one to see what I mean). If I drill the bottom to get the wire through I might damage one of those circuits and would still need to glue in the holder pins for the fuse (these pins are the ones I checked with the multimeter, over the top of the fusebox and where the fuses fit). The result would be messy. Maybe a separate fuse holder altogether may prove to be the best alternative, but I am yet to try out the wiring!

Oh, that makes sense. I thought since you already had the boxes disassembled, you could perform the surgical procedure then.

BTW, when I first saw that you had purchased a 20v BT, I thought it was for the AE86. Additionally, are those swaps legal in Portugal? Because here in California, they aren't. =(

From what I know, California is really stringent on emission controls... In Portugal the swap is a bit easier, because our road tax only requires the engine to be the same displacement and that the Toyota representative in the country provide the documentation stating that the engine is safe to put in a given chassis :-)

João Rocha da Silva Lucky. A few years ago, the former Governor of California, Arnold Schwarzenegger, changed our legislation requiring ALL cars manufactured after 1974 to pass a bi-annual smog test for the life of the car, ugh =(. Previously, cars that were 30 years, or older, were exempt from smog checks. There is a group of people in the aftermarket car parts industry, SEMA (Special Equipment Manufacturers Association), who are lobbying to change the laws back to the 30 year mark. My car will be 30 this coming January, but I don't hold my breath on this happening before then. I've often thought of a 7AFE, with a 20-valve head and a supercharger from a Previa with a smaller (higher boost) pulley from a MK1 MR2 and top it all off with a air-to-water inter-cooler. But, that isn't a legal swap as the BT engines were never imported to the states.

Man those are some serious mods...! You will need low compression forged pistons, forged conrods... I also have my doubts regarding the crank's longevity as well, since it has smaller diameter connecting rod jornals than the 4A-GE, if I am not mistaken. With that bi-anual smog testing it will be really hard to have a beast like that on the road. I would love to see such a dream come true however! Thank you for your great explanation on your local law, something I love about this KZbin channel is that I get comments from ppl all over the world and I get to know lots of different stories that they tell me :-)

I know what you mean, technology is great. There is another legal swap I can perform for about $3,500 US dollars. That would be a 2JZ, including the 6-speed trans. I had an employee who had this done to his Lexus SC300 (a.k.a. Soarer) and his mechanic has already done this swap on AE86s and quoted me that price. I hesitated to do it as my car is all original, has been in the family since new and I have all the original sales documents as well as the original exhaust manifold, lower air-box and snorkel. So, it holds more value than if it were a conversion or restoration. I think I would rather pick up an AE86 SR5 or a beat up GT-S and put the 2JZ into that, with custom touches all over. I have many ideas but would not do them to my one-of-a-kind baby.

The SR5 would be my choice, but wouldnt the 2JZ be too big for that car? I mean, it is a huge engine, with a turbo... goes against everything lol. Maybe an SR20DET (if you want to go the turbo way) or an F20C (still NA, yields very good results, we have some rare examples here in Portugal...)
