To think about it, Charles was not a person blessed by nature and had to fill a role that was not designed for a mere human, and still did quite an admirable job, despite his failures. He had his dark side too, but he did display a dignity and conscience that made other people respect him, allies and enemies alike. Many talented people dedicated their lives to him and performed great things. That should be something. Western historians tend to demand from great kings some "flash", but here in our side of Asia that would be enough for him to qualify as a great monarch. He was born with a fragile constitution. He had to work a lot to able to bear all that work physically. He was no natural wolf-like politician like Philip the Fair or Ferdinand (both also possessed strong constitution), he was not a charismatic/divine speaker like Isabella (Philip too was a charming conversationalist). He certainly did not have the military, technical, artistic imagination Maximilian (who also had legendary physical strength) was blessed with. Still, it would have been interesting to see how his four illustrious grandparents, or his father Philip the Fair, would have done in his place. Seriously it should be them and their respective spouses in the place of his and Isabella of Portugal. Philip would have preferred a France-like system more, I suppose.

Ferdinand and Isabel tried to prevent a Hapsburg take over of Iberia. Isabel even had possession of Charles younger brother for a while.

Charles's younger brother Ferdinand was actually born in Spain in 1503, during the time Philip of Habsburg and Joanna of Castile visited Spain in order to be sworn fealty as new heirs of the kingdom. After that, baby Ferdinand wasn't taken back to Flanders with his parents (he wasn' kept there by force, Joanna just left him there as he was too young to travel), and he was raised in their grandparents care. Isabel barely knew baby Ferdinand though, she died in 1504, when the baby was only 1. When Joanna, as the new queen after her mother's death, traveled to Castile with her husband Philip, they reunited with their son Ferdinand. Joanna rejoiced being with him and he stayed with her in the next few years. In 1509, old Ferdinand took little Ferdinand from Joanna by force. He contemplated naming him his heir instead of his elder brother, Charles, who had never even been to Spain, but he never committed himself fully to this decision. Isabel never tried to prevent the Habsburg succession, she supported her daughter Joanna, and thus her Habsburg husband and children too, in everything. It was only after her death that Ferdinand started to intrigue against Joanna and took the throne from her and the Habsburgs. Younger Ferdinand would have been a Habsburg succession, too, though. As he was also a member of that dynasty, not a Spanish Trastamara.

This is NOT an imperial coronation! Charles V was crowned the Holy Roman Emperor in Bologna, Italy NOT in Aachen, Germany (he was crowned there as the King). Besides, he was crowned by the Pope (as every Emperor is) and in this video we don't see the Pope but an archbishop along with six other bishops.

Well it is the imperial coronation, as once king of the germans you're almost guaranteed to become holy roman emperor at this point. After charles V few emperors will visit Rome let alone be coronated there

@@LordDamianus After the papal recognition of Maximillian I's "Elected emperor of the romans" title, papal coronation basically became obsolete, and Charles V was immediately Emperor after winning the election. The coronation in bologna was more of a power move by charles, who had the the pope travel there from rome, instead of the emperor coming there, to show imperial seniority over the church

Many emperors were self-righteous and wanted to subordinate the Church under their law. Best examples: Otto III and Henry IV. Napoleon also claimed to be "above the Pope", taking the crown from the Pope's hands and crowning himself.
