Coronation Special: why I water in the rain!

Hey there!! I just watched the coronation here in Tasmania. So lovely to see, and thankfully Charles didn't collapse under the weight of all those jewels and carats. I'm hoping for lots more videos from you soon. Great idea for water catchment! Though I'd have the waterproof tank outside, and use the roof for something that needs to be kept dry. The galvanised corrugated iron water tank is ubiquitous here in Oz, or fibreglass, PVC or concrete. My rural house runs on a cement rank 3 metres diameter x 2.7 m high. I'm now off grid, and only have gravity fed water, which is tedious +++, especially since the bottom 600mm of the tank is below ground.. So I'd love to see more details of your battery water pressure system!

Ah hello Ruby! Totally agree re putting the tank outside the roof- the land is not ours, and I was restricted by planning rules.. The pump is fantastic- game changing. Made by Bosch with rechargeable batteries. I’ll find the details for you. It cost about £130 but was worth it.. I was lucky enough to get the materials, tank and pump paid for by a water conservation charity- we’re beginning to have real problems with our water system in the uk, partly due to systemic leaks, and partly due to a huge and profligate population 😞

@@floragarveygardening1864 Thanks for replying! It is unusual to see British gardeners installing rainwater capturing systems, but we couldn't do without them here. It's not how big your water tank is that matters, but how often you can fill, empty and refill it, so watering when rain is due is a great idea. The dairy farmer next to me irrigates with massive central pivot systems about 3 times each week for 4 months in summer, or as long as his dams last. They still irrigate during the rain. Makes no sense to have water still in storage when the rainy autumn weather comes. It's much better economy to use it all up to produce the best harvest, and keep the soil organisms thriving.

Another reason I water in the rain is because its a good time to see what is actually getting wet. I have a lot of tubs and pots which sometimes either the rain is at the wrong angle to soak properly or foliage etc deflects rain away. Also all too often the rain is so superficial it dries before it sinks in.

@@floragarveygardening1864 Worth mentioning that the plants are already adjusted to the rain so they will not be shocked by suddenly being soaked.
