Richard attempted to kill Emily but Maxine walked in on him so he tried to kill her too. Ironically Emily survived and Maxine died.

Richard scammed 100s of people out of money through his company; killed Dougie Ferguson after Dougie tried to swindle him during the building of a block of flats, murdered his ex-wife for trying to out his scheming ways and buried her in the foundation of the flats He used his company to inherit lots of people's estates after their deaths and decided to kill Emily Bishop for her estate; He drugged Sarah's then bf Aid Critchley and used his clothes to break and enter the Peacock house where Emily was babysitting their kid He attacked Emily from behind but Maxine came home She tried to get to her baby and Richard bashed her brains in Then let Aid take the fall He began mentally abusing Audrey making her think she had alzheimers before burning her house down with her in it; she survived and fortunately began to realise she wasn't mad Richard plotted some more but eventually Gail realised sh*t didn't add up and asked him if he was actually a killer Richard said "yeah but it was only for sh*ts and giggles, let's run off together, eh?" Gail said no so Richard ran off and lived rough for a bit before he had the brainwave "let's go back and kill the Platts! Then they're sure to forgive me!" So Richard drugged the baby and held it hostage and forced the family to ride along on a murder/suicide run to a canal where he drove his car into the water Only to realise last minute that he was the only one who didn't know how to swim He drowned whilst the Platts escaped
