The novel coronavirus, COVID-19, has forced airlines to ground most of their airplanes. Where are they parking all of the aircraft? What is the storage process and how long will it take for them to get back in the air? TPG’s av-geek Wallace Cotton explains.

Lots of planes here in Arizona. Not just Marana but near Phoenix too. It's the end of the road for American & Delta 757/767's

@@ThePointsGuyArrivals i'm hoping because then they have a chance of being configured as freighters. Or at least overseas. If they go to Marana that might be it. Let me know what you know, I loved watching the 757's take off from PHX atop the "Left Seat" restaurant! Off limits after 9-11.

number 1 cost for airlines is fuel and fuel price is very low into the foreseeable future. But, airlines decide what margin they're going to run at. If there is high demand for flights then yes there probably won't be any airfare sales.

Well, here in Norway, SAS and Norwegian has parked a lot of their planes at the larger airports, with most being parked at Oslo airport. Norwegian has parked a lot of their 787's there. I also heard recently that the 787's need to be restarted ever 52 days. This is due to that the planes might show the wrong position or give false system readings...

I've always thought parking those planes way out in the high desert (Victorville) will fry the interiors, avionics, electronics, etc., from the summer heat. If it's 110F outside, I can't imagine how hot it is inside those large, unventilated (to keep out desert dust), aluminum tubes.

Who needs points? If you're willing to accept the risks, there are plenty of cross country trips for under $20. I've seen LAX to MIA, FLL and PHL in the $17 - $20 range.

So basically after less than two months almost all aircrafts parked outside will be damaged?! 😥
@ThePointsGuyArrivals
@ThePointsGuyArrivals 4 жыл бұрын
Not necessarily damaged, just an increased likelihood that some components will need to be repaired before flying again.
@ogarnogin5160

things will deteriorate even if not used . Tires in one place to long can become weak in one spot. Seals can dry out. Hydraulics can become sticky . Later inspections will not find all the wasp and mouse nests

I hope those aircrafts will fly again. THe 747 and A380 are retired do to their big sizes and not very usefull for some airports that are very small. Now, what about 737, md80, or other aircrafts? would they still fly? I do know that some airliners are using some of their aircrafts to fly for delivering kargo.
