Remember the days when the MAX was the only parked aircraft?
@yaric22744 жыл бұрын
Dream Journal Projects Honestly I think Boeing 737 max may have caught a small break with the Covid 19 outbreak. Airlines would be operating on fewer routes while they are parking their planes. And after the outbreak, when airlines may need to gain more aircraft to return to normal,(maybe), the MAX would be able to come back to service.

Man that is the best joke of our civilization. Go explain future kids that along with building oversized A380, we’ve built 370 items of an aircraft that crashes, then built 400 more samples of the same one knowing they weren’t fit to fly with their misplaced engines, parked them around the world, then the confinement came and we parked all the other aircrafts. The ~780 Boeing 737 MAX never flew correctly, ever. And that’s why, kid, we live in an aircraft.

This one not what I expected it to be something like the types of storage options the airlines have, what is done to them while in storage, like what components need checking. And finally how long it takes for the airplanes to be ready once needed for action. That’s a pretty basic version of parking up an aircraft after a few weeks it gets a lot more complicated and a lot more expensive leaving an aircraft engine on the ground With the oil still in the engines. This is get very costly for the airlines if they have to look at long term groundings as far as I know if it’s long term eg a couple of months then the engines have to be drained and filled with special protection anti corrosion, the engines have to powered up every couple of weeks lots of testing has to be done. They don’t just start it up after a few weeks like a car and say “hey cool the engine is working” love your vids keep it up

As someone who has spent a career in aviation maintenance, I can say that parking an airplane, any airplane, for long periods is not like parking your car in the garage. Aircraft are deigned to FLY. Engines and the associated fuel systems, hydraulics, tires, all will degrade after extended periods of idleness. Engines will need to be run, flight controls and actuators will need to be cycled. The maintenance personnel will be as busy now, perhaps more so, to prevent the hundreds of billions worth of airliners around the globe from deterioration from sheer lack of use.

I've heard several airlines and OEM's are exploring the idea of using temporary protective coatings for parked airframes. You've probably seen the greenish colored stuff on new fuselages or other parts but the products to go over paint instead of metal is usually black and/or white. And the better products will go over all exposed surfaces. So you might see a bunch of all-white seemingly windowless aircraft in storage lots soon.

@DJ thanks for this type video. It's amazing to see how airlines are dealing with this crisis, especially when it cones to how they're going about pushing their fleets. It's indeed sad to think that many of these birds won't fly again. I'm curious though on your thoughts about this possibility: with so many plans parked and soon to be retired, do you think this is a potential time for some new airlines to start up? I know many airlines, especially low cost carriers, buy used planes to start up a new operation before they are able to have the cash flow to buy newer planes. I think there could be new airlines emerge after the COVID-19 crisis ends . Sure, there will be many that aren't able to weather the storm, and never resume service. And larger airlines may emerge as much smaller airline. I see that possibly leaving room for some new airlines to form. There will be plenty of retired planes and probably sold off for deals too good to pass up for startups. I'd be interested to hear your thoughts on this. Thank you!

What's worthy of note is that Airports charge the airlines by the minute for being parked on a stand, remote or not which is why you will see BA try and squeeze in as many of their jets into their maintenance area at Heathrow and why it's using the regional airports for parking because it's a LOT cheaper than the rates Heathrow are charging.
@leschase18244 жыл бұрын
BA has 40 parked at Bournemouth, 35 A320 series plus 5 X 747's filling all stands plus a taxiway along by a road with a bank and trees. Close to London for engineers, plus flight servicing at the airport.

Yeah like this. Good insight into what happens after these aircraft park up. Two points does the aviation fuel degrade over time? Second is air safety. most mode of transport start to degrade when sat around for long periods of time. They are designed to be regularly used and nature in its various forms has a way of reclaiming stuff that sits around. Eg spiders bugs, moisture mould , aging tyres etc. Maintaining a product which should provide income but is now costing you money just sitting there calls for some hard choices like getting rid of aircraft. It would be interesting to follow one or two aircraft from being parked up and moth balled to back into service carrying passengers again .
