Think about a freeway that is shut down due to a death, the lights and sirens are going to allow the coroner to get to the scene quickly to do an investigation and or remove the body so the freeway can be opened again. If they didn't have lights and sirens, they would never get to the scene because they'd be stuck in dead stopped traffic.

Yes and no, first off the going based off procedure here where I live, the fluids from the body wouldn't be in the bed of the truck in the first place as the body is sealed in a watertight bag lined with plastic. But yes the ease of cleaning aspect is part of why you would have a utilitarian back as opposed to a carpeted interior. And trust me when I say, there really isn't any specialty built area to clean the backs of them, it's generally a garage with a floor drain hooked up to the sewage system or just a public car wash though it varies based on department. I know this because I work transport for a coroners dept.

Maybe if that. When they respond, odds are there is going to be a ton of other vehicles, and the road closed. Nothing drivers me up a wall like EVERY car on scene having their full set of lights going, no one can see a damn thing.

@Thecarkid 11 Until you're requested to expedite to a scene because officers are in a volatile situation, a large violent crowd at the scene of a homicide for example, a need to get an accident cleared because it's in a dangerous location, concerns of evidence being lost or tampered with, high profile cases, avoiding delayed responses in heavy or stopped traffic and the list goes on... do they always need lights and sirens? No. In some instances? Yes. The state I live in has a vehicle and traffic law provision allowing red lights and sirens for coroner investigators.

@sub222marathon's explanation is correct in why our customers ask for such a high-end warning kit. When a coroner is on the scene, it means whatever incident they're responding to there has already been a fatality. That fatality escalates the incident to a higher priority, thus requiring more warning. Also, when a vehicle marked "CORONER" comes up on a scene, onlookers tend to get more nosey. Imagine trying to break through a crowd of onlookers into the scene with just an amber bar and factory horn.

I love the truck you guys always make beautiful products but my question is why have the truck lifted so high in the air and have such a large spacing between the tire and the body that just looks really bad in my eyes I mean either put some bigger tires on it or lower the truck

THE PROTECTORS those tires are factory, the F350s come with tires that are absolutely too small.

The F-Series comes with standard packages like that for service work. Realize that truck will be going out to calls in the countryside where offroading is a must. The truck is that large to aid in that.

It's a Ford thing lol. Idk what the hell a coroner would need a 1 ton pickup truck for anyways. Half ton would work just fine, cheaper, lower, easier to use for their needs.

That is actually pretty explainable. A coroner's department goes through a lot of checks when purchasing a new vehicle. These checks factor in stuff like their workload, area that they serve, the population demographic, local and state laws, and budget. If a coroners department buys a truck like an F-250 the odds are they are needing a vehicle that can go offroading, carry a lot of weight, and serve a more utilitarian role. Now the specific reasons why they chose the F-250 over a F-150 or even a van or a suv is unknown to us, but what ever the reason, the board that runs the department picked that truck out specifically, who are we to judge anyway.

What's the point of putting lights and siren on a meat wagon? It's not as if the person they're picking up is going to get any more dead if they don't go flying through traffic. Why endanger the living for the sake of the deceased?

If it's a fatality caused by a traffic collision that's backed up the highway, the Coroner may have to use their warning system to alert motorists to move aside so they can reach the scene.

For most Coroner's they need Emergency systems because of traffic or if they are really far from a scene it helps them get to the scene much faster so they can tend to the deceased person/people and get them out of the view from the public bystanders. Funeral home personnel even have Emergency systems since they lead a funeral procession to the cemetery.

There is no emergency. There IS urgency because until we arrive, police and EMS can't leave for other calls. Once we arrive and take charge of the body, they can redpond to other calls, if needed. Also, we don't just fetch bodies. We do a joint death investigation with police.

Coroner is law enforcement just like police. So I guess a homicide detective should not have lights and siren too?? Coroners investigate the death like the police or sheriff Coroners are lawfully in command of any scene where a dead body is present And it is always nice to get roads open sooner than later when accident s occur Coroners help facilitate the process

To be honest they may swap out the truck to be used in another part of the department down the line. Our police and fire agencies often swap vehicles from time to time and just change the graphics.

In most cases it is important to remove the deceased person from the scene as soon as possible but only because of bystanders that are trying to look at the body but also since After a person dies the body usually starts to decay within hours especially in the summer heat and if the person is a murder victim The body needs to be preserved so an autopsy can be done to determine the cause of death and they try to preserve any visual marks on it by getting it to the morgue or medical examiners office.
