If you like Gospel, Blues, Soul Rock & Roll or any other form of classic American music, you have got to watch this. A huge influence on many who came after her, yet largely forgotten, Sister Rosetta Tharpe is mind-blowingly great!

Donald Mccall rock and roll cane from the house of God, not Rosetta. Let’s get it all right people. There’s no color to this game. When you believe there’s color you are being distracted. Music is good and it’s from God. Evil corrupts music and that’s why we are where we are today. That’s why there is “Rock and Roll.” Fuck Rock and Roll. It’s just music. Good or bad it’s music. But where it comes from we are trying to figure out. Why we like it, trying to figure that out.

The way it is worded still doesn't give her proper respects in my opinion. Why is Elvis still the King of Rock N Roll? She was just a "model and inspiration" yet everyone after her .. were "rock originators"....such bullshit. She wouldn't have been even put in if it weren't for the internet bringing her back up. Sister Rosetta Tharpe is one of the essential figures in the history of rock and roll. If she had not been there as a model and inspiration, Elvis Presley, Little Richard, Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis and other rock originators would have had different careers. No one deserves more to be in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. Sister Rosetta became famous in 1938 with a record called “Rock Me.” She was a star through the 1940’s, a black woman singing gospel music to the accompaniment of her own driving electric guitar - howling and stamping. Her 1945 recording “Strange Things Happening Every Day” has been credited as the first gospel song to cross over to the “race” (later called “R&B”) charts - reaching Number Two and becoming an early model for rock and roll. She was a sensation, selling out arenas into the 1950’s. In 1947, Sister Rosetta was the first person to put a 14-year-old boy named Little Richard Penniman on a stage. It changed Little Richard’s life - he decided right then to become a performer. In 1951, twenty-five thousand fans paid to attend her on-stage wedding at Griffith Stadium in Washington DC. She was the hottest act on stage with a guitar. She became a model for Elvis Presley, Carl Perkins and Jerry Lee Lewis. Johnny Cash called her his favorite singer and biggest inspiration. By the early Sixties the musical revolution she inspired had forgotten her - so Sister Rosetta went to England and played electric guitar for the young blues fans of London and Liverpool. Without Sister Rosetta Tharpe, rock and roll would be a different music. She is the founding mother who gave rock’s founding fathers the idea. selected discography “Rock Me,” “That’s All,” “The Lonesome Road” • (1938) “Shout, Sister, Shout!” • (1942) “Strange Things Happening Every Day” (1945) • “Nobody’s Fault But Mine” (1949) • Gospel Train (1956) • Sister On Tour (1961)

Naughty fellas such as Wynonie Harris invented rock and roll, a new kind of jump blues that had the message partying-is-our-religion, mentioned "deacons" and the like and paralleled "rocking in the bosom of Abraham" with rocking the joint, and mixed gospel musical style in (such as backbeat, previously associated mainly with the church) to make the joke even more obvious.

The Gentiles do not know whom they worship, we the true Hebrews/Ibrim of Scripture, we know who we worship, who is the Most High Yahuah. His Son is Yahusha Ha Mashiach. The false gifts given are the Holy Spirit/Ghost, the true name is Ruach Ha Qodesh. 2 Witnesses, thus the oil & wine, who is the Ruach Ha Qodesh & Covenant both old & new,. 2 Witnesses sealed into the Set-apart Hebrew/Ibri 12 Tribes & the Law put into their minds & hearts & the Ruach reproving them of sin daily. Yahusha Ha Mashiach, thus the Word of Yahuah. The Great Whore = the Apostate Hebrew/Ibri faith and she had 3 Harlot girls: 1) Yahudaism/Judaism 2) Christianity 3) Islamic faith. This is the Great Mystery Babel, thus modern-day Babel-Rome, who is the Scarlet Beast and the Great Whore who rides it is the Vineyard who was reaped during the Trans-Atlantic Slave Trade. Gleaning then took place even to the present day. She, going through the phase of Great Whore, then Prostitute, then Woman, who would then give birth to the MALE child, thus the Head/Resh Yahusha Ha Mashiach & the Body/Assembly Yasharael, these 2 are the Bridegroom & Bride, both are the 3rd Spiritual Hekal built by no man's hands. Yasharael messengers = 1/3 Chosen & Called = 3rd Hekal. Yahqob mortal man = 2/3 Chosen, not Called = majority in Christian Church prisons with no escape & Islamic faith. Jesus = Je = Ie = Ye = throat glottal & sus in Latin is pig & sous/soos in Spanish is horse/beast, thus MARK OF THE BEAST. Christ = Ch in Greek is X/mark & rist in Icelandic is to carve mark. Base man = mind & soul of an animal in the form of a man = he is born spiritually dead.

i dont like elvis he did buy a lot of songs from black song writers that needed money badly so thats all good.but he refused to play with blacks on stage big mama was blanked when she asked to play with elvis in the 60s maybe he was told not to by his management.but he should of done it cause without the blues there was no elvis great post she was a great guitarist & great singer song writer with pure talent.. ....

@@djbigleg3228 That's plain false and a lie. He even refused to play a concert unless he could bring his black gospel singers and players. Back then, it was not as pronounced perhaps, but blacks like Chuck Berry often had racist encounters playing. Elvis often championed blacks in song and action.

I can remember the ,64 Manchester station appearance as though it was yesterday...I was 22 back then. It was part of a one off Saturday night BBC TV production which featured the 'Soul Train'. This was a steam train that had been laid on to transport a whole group of gospel and soul artistes just for this one occasion. Here in England we hadn't seen anything like this before and it was a sensation that left it's mark on me even to this day. In a way it was also the swan song for steam locomotives here in the UK because within 18 months all of them had been withdrawn from service.

About 35 black women and about 25 white women have been recognized by the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame. Tharpe wasn't the founder of rock and roll, rock and roll was a new type of jump blues, a secular style invented (by the likes of Wynonie Harris, Wild Bill Moore, and Roy Brown) during a period when Tharpe refused to perform any secular music.
