This show came out long before I was born. I am in my 20s and I absolutely LOVE this show. This Zorro reminds me of the comics and the novels that I've read over the years. I like Antonio Banderas and he did pretty well as the 2nd generation of The Fox (Hopkins was Diego in the movie), but Guy Williams just had a special charm and charisma and light about him that made him perfect for this role. The dynamic between Guy, Gene Sheldon (Bernado) and George Lewis (Alejandro) really carried this show and made it fun. Along with Henry Calvin (Srgt. Garcia) and Don Diamond (Reyes) who brought the humor. These guys were the heart of this show and that's a rarity. To have a core cast that is actually memorable both together as well as individually. Even the many other charcaters that were introduced throughtout the series run were pretty memorable whether played by famous celebs or people that have never been heard of. I would have loved to have watched many, many, many more seasons of this show. I hate that Disney and ABC could't squash their differences. If Zorro is to ever come back onto the big screen...this is all the source material needed to make a great and memorable movie about Zorro.

Guy Williams was extremely handsome and made an excellent Zorro! I watched these shows when they were new as a little girl on 1950s TV! However, in my opinion, Tryone Power in the 1940 "Mark of Zorro" was farr more handsome and to me Tryone was the best Zorro of them all!

I think it's great that Guy Williams adopted a Spanish accent for his character Diego. It was common in the old costume dramas for actors to all speak in their natural American accents, which kind of jars me since they were all suppose to be living in Europe somewhere. I wonder where Williams learned the accent and why he decided to have this accent. Williams just makes Diego very real for me.
@pabloocana26653 жыл бұрын
I don't think the same, along the serie manny I could check manny mistakes in the pronounciation, names and written words. For example: Castenada for Castañeda, Monastario for Monasterio, etc. Guy Williams in the final of his life, he moves to Argentina and learned to speak spanish, but his spanish never was perfect.
@marlu1946 Жыл бұрын
Guy 's parents came to the USA from Sicily, so as a first generation American, Guy spoke both English and Italian, so I would guess he used an Italian accent as the basis.

Jack Val This is not what I've read. The actor playing Monstario cast for Zorro role but Guy Williams was preferred. He was not written out, he was hired to play Monastario for 17 episodes. The only "Comandante" present in so many episodes in the whole series.

I was 8 in 1974, in that time our country was suffering a facist dictatorship, parlament was dissolved and authorities of that time looked monasterio for me. Every people suporting freedom and democracy, was in danger od suffering torture, death or jail, so for us Zorro was important to keep hope alive in our hearts. Im pretty sure this has to be weird for those watching Zorro in a dafe, and strong democracy like the US had. Btw, that dictatorship in my country was backed by US, just because the dictatorship was strongly anticomunist. The proble was that for that rulers everybody suporting freedom was considered a comunist .Saludos amigos, y viva el Zorro!

I wish they repeated this show.I like seeing it in color aswell.Guy Williams was definitley the best Zorro. I hope they colorize the first season of Lost in Space also. There have been many classic shows like Zorro that have not been repeated.Hogans Hereos,I Dream of Jeanie,Bewitched and Get Smart have had their fair share. Lets see more others again.Todays gen needs to see more of the favs we grew up with as kids.Instead of the brainless violence.

Why did they never air this where I live? I loved Zorro as a kid... Anyways... I do admire this show for how honest it is in many regards. The setting is realistically racist and oppressive, still even the villain shows some honour (like paying the informant, though he was "just an Indian" or keeping his mouth shut about the affair he had found out last episode)

It's weird but I was born in the area the show talks about. San Gabriel Mission? I was born in Los Angeles, My sister was baptized at the San Gabriel Mission. I'm not sure where I was baptized? I wish it was San Juan Capistrano! So beautiful a Spanish Mission! The Mexicans believe they own this territory----The Indians had it first then Spain claimed it. Mexico is third! Mexico only had it for like 23 years. They still believe they own it! Fools.
