Word to the wise: a little copper wire from the other trash added to the aluminum and voila! You have aluminum-bronze, probably the toughest bronze formulation you can make in a home smelt. Since aluminum wasn’t refined till after modern steels were available, my guess is no one has ever studied the properties of aluminum-bronze blades.
@wolfgangkranek37611 ай бұрын
A good casting mold can also be made from wet sand and a part sugar. Especially when casting aluminum.

I watched a Tommy Lee Jones movie called " The Hunted" and it ģshowed Tommy Lee and the other character making primative knives. Tommy did a flint knapped blade. The other was a "forged" car suspension blade.. and you just showed us an aluminum cast blade that I believe is better than those movie magic knives. Awesome AF I would like to see what kind of functional edge you can get on your blade.. thank you Cpl. Kelly for another learning/ teaching experience.

_Totally viable option_ ! I've never seen anybody else do this, and really never would have considered this as a practical option if I hadn't seen you demonstrate it! But yes, aluminum will work for your Bushcraft/survival needs! So you'll need to sharpen them more but, oh well... Better than nothing! Also, surprised how quickly you could fashion a blade (half a day isn't bad considering the benefit of a blade from trash and foraging for such a powerful survival force multiplier) - and yes, aluminum is everywhere! Super job!

I would also love to see that but, with KZbin being what it is, he probably either wouldn't be able to monetize the video(s) or he would get knocked for it. The only way I could see it even POSSIBLY be done without getting "KZbind" for it would be to do it with stuffed animals - haha! Even then, well... We all know KZbin.

Aluminum cans are made in 2 parts. The body is one piece, the top another. The body is made from a much softer alloy than the top. If you could separate the parts (P51?) and made the knife from just the tops, you would have a a stronger knife that would hold an edge.
