As someone who has a few thousand hours in Hawkers and now flies the 550, the Hawker yoke beats all. It falls to hand so easily without any pro or supination, and the low pivot has a great feel.

The 'rams horn' control column goes back way before Concorde, it certainly featured as long ago as the HS-121 (the DeHavilland) Trident.

The first time I climbed into a Hawker to fly it and saw the yoke, I have to admit that I was somewhat taken aback. (actually, I think that was in a simulator at SIMUFLITE in Dallas). But after VERY few hours it got to where I was VERY comfortable with that yoke and like it a lot. I have flown a lot of 601 and 604 Challengers Lears, various King Airs and etc. that have "standard" yokes similar to what this guy talks about being the case in Gulfstreams and just CANNOT say anything bad about the Hawker style yoke even though it DOES look a LOT different!

Why don't they give you side sticks on the seat armrests? Then you could flip everything out of the way and slide the seat rearward and make exit and entry easy? All controls could be mounted on the armrests. And both seat controls could then be the same for each side.
@EinkOLED5 жыл бұрын
Because nobody would want to fly something as flimsy as a sidestick attached to their seat.
@patrickburgmeier79025 жыл бұрын
@@EinkOLED lots of equipment has controls on the armrest. Just because it's there doesn't mean its flimsy. Most controls are electric switches now anyway.
@EinkOLED5 жыл бұрын
@@patrickburgmeier7902 We are talking about a control stick that controls the pitch and roll of the aircraft. It is the most important equipment on an aircraft, lose that and you lose the ability to control the aircraft. Also the seat needs to move and possibly replaced if broken, so it is essential that the control stick remains attached to the aircraft rather than a moveable seat which could accidently sever any cables. Also the side stick on airbus is a heavy complex design relying on mechanical rods, etc.

Bedford crash: Bella Dinh-Zarr, the board's vice chairman, said the pilots had flown together for years and had thousands of hours of experience but habitually neglected steps in preflight routines. The crew skipped steps during 98% of their previous 175 flights, according to investigators. “An airplane cannot take off safely with the gust lock engaged," Dinh-Zarr said. “The flight crew routinely neglected performing complete flight checks." Do the damn checklist. You could be a 50,000 hour pilot with 40k in type and still forget a critical item one day.
@dcrahn5 жыл бұрын
Not to speak ill of the dead, but that accident in the Gulfstream up in Mass was due to bad cockpit procedures on the part of the two pilots. Gust lock design and placement play no part in that accident.
@k1mgy5 жыл бұрын
Surprised about two things. First, the yoke seems to be blocking your full view of the two displays. True? The hand positions seem non-conforming to a more natural position. Do long periods on the yoke allow your muscles to relax a bit? I'm imagining that the seemingly higher grip is taxing. Second, the mic button sequence. From intercom, to mute, to transmit. I would think this might be rather awful in a situation where the crew is dealing with a problem (say, engine out), and therefore talking to ATC, and coordinating together. I'd make it a separate switch altogether or change the order: mute - intercom - transmit. Wonder if you have any thoughts on this?

Hi I have a question ( maybe silly) but I am wondering, when you want to go to the toilet during flight on a business jet, it must be embarrassing using the one for all those VIP rich guys:-) and another thing, what about the cofee or meals in flight. Are you guys allowed to go and make some coffe when you have customers on board? You know, its like using their snack bar almost:-)
@CorporatePilotLife4 жыл бұрын
We try to minimize the toilet usage by going right before departure, but sometimes you just have to do it. We call it the walk of shame. As for the coffee and snacks, it's kinda the same thing. We usually put a few snacks in the cockpit before the passengers show up, but I've never had any issues with it whatsoever. We keep so much stuff on the plane for spares that I'm not worried about running out also. Some passengers are super cool where they actually bring food for us on the flight. I always feel bad, but often times they will come up and try to serve us food as if they are waiting on us. The vast majority of our passengers are genuinely nice and thoughtful people.
@MikeSierra82824 жыл бұрын
@@CorporatePilotLife thank you. That is exactly what I expected. Sometimes during long hauls must be difficult not to use the toilet in flight:-) Sorry, I am just looking for adventages and disadventages of being corporate pilot.
