If you happened to have mastered the Dutch language, the book is a perfect compendium in Hermetic philosophy. The book includes translation of: -The Corpus Hermeticum -The Asclepius -The Hermetic fragments of Stobaeus -Fragments of Vienna, Berlin and Oxford -Hermetic Testimonia of several Ancient writers (Zosimus, Tertullianus, Lactantius, ...) And besides these translations, you also have a ton of references and commentaries from the authors concerning Hermetic texts and history.

Certainly from my first hand experience having been reared in this manner all I can find words to describe in and of that upbringing was to me regarded as a cherished and beloved experience one I adhere by to this day as laws that have made every level of difference for my life. My grandfather in his own words told me often Son, the big fish called wisdom is what everyone wants and most beging to seek it and cannot seem to comprehend its courses and many simply give up and settle for an easier found adapted way of life where knowledge is the seat of what is called power, let it be clear to you that the genuine wisdom as the article within you arrives is always noted best by the difference and the difference is the wisdom known and applied. I basically ate out of his hand as he remains a remarkable person as I also hold you being cut of similar leather, worth the salt and light you are Doc. This meant the world to me in review of the many things I am well versed and familiar with on a daily applied method it does the mind wonders of balance and clearly aids a life within its studies adept to make increased decisions on a level plane as a scale of truth one lives and thrives by with a specific accord. Excellent video, have recently been reading the Nag Hammadi Hermetic texts. Have always thought there was a strong similarity between the Upanishads and the 'main' Corpus Hermeticum texts, especially in the discourse between teacher and student. I do think the Emerald Tablets are much older than estimated, and were thankfully preserved in Arabia.

Excellent introduction! Looking forward to future videos on Hermeticism. I'm paraphrasing but Dan Attrell makes the hypothesis that the Corpus Hermeticum was an attempt by the Macedonians to sincretize all different spiritual traditions across the empire into one. Hence the influences of Jewish, Egyptian, Greek, Gnostic, Persian, Hindu and by some accounts Buddhist teachings.

Thanks, Eric! Yeah, it's a nice translation. The Copenhaver is a real technical work and I appreciate that he lays his focus there the WoH just reads more like scripture to me. It would be a neat thing to actually put some of the Hermetic hymns to music Wardruna / Heilung style, i.e., trying to recreate the sounds of ancient Alexandria. I think the translations in the Way of Hermes would be a great fit for that...I mean, until you do it proper in Greek or even Egyptian!

@@SHAX516 I think the reason we don't see a more explicit movement is because the societies that protect Hermetic wisdom dictate how much of their teachings can be distributed in the mainstream outside the heavily encoded reference materials available online. It appears that the references are designed to be picked up only by those who have already attained a certain level of understanding on their own, in accord with the ancient (and, in my view, flawed) concept of "milk for babies, meat for strong men". Note the patriarchal tone in the traditional statement of this principle. It assumes that only well-developed males will ever have the strength to withstand the weight of universal truths that they alone carry. It is the height of chauvinism and hubris, two values that the Hermetic wisdom itself superficially appears to oppose, though the complexities introduced at higher degrees of initiation slowly reveal this tendency in the more "esoteric" doctrines. It is standard cult fare, when you get down to it, but applied on such a global scale that it takes on an unprecedented atmospheric character.

Love this ❤ when l did my MA in history 24 years ago on "Magic in the Renaissance", l was told there were no books, no sources, and it was a waste of time. It's so good to hear about Ficino again! I remember reading "De vita triplicis"😊. Any thoughts on the Ficino-German Humanism connection and the academy in Florence? I seem to remember that neoplatonic magic and qabala seem to have been popular among the sodalitates, e g. Rhenana - Agrippa was a member iirc, so was Trithemius and Reuchlin... And Dürers work "Melancolia" def has a planetary square (Jupiter) right out of De Occulta Philosophia. It's great to hear this branch of scholarship taken seriously ❤
