I know this was a year ago but I watched a video of some ARP specialists who work for the company. And one of the guys mentioned that when putting the washer in for the studs, you should only lube the top of the washer and the bottom of the nut so the nut can rotate. You don't want the washer to rotate as well, it creates a DOUBLE Bearing like action that makes tightening inaccurate. So leave the bottom of the washer completely dry and clean as well as the surface it is contacting

Good stuff. Been waiting to see this car rip again. One small correction, it's the non vtec B18 and B20 head that uses 2 longer studs for the center. All 10 studs for vtec b series heads are the same length whether they are L19 or other.

I called arp when I tourqed my head down and the tech me to make sure I only put arp lube on the top of the washer were the nut will be spinning on and not the bottom of the washer. Said that way the washer isn't spinning when your tourqing it down

Lube is applied to lower the friction between MOVING parts (nut and the stud, nut and the washer). Stud is not moving inthe block when torquing therefor it do not matter if you give lube (arp or regular oil) or not on the threat in the block. Same goes for the washer. It should not twist respect to the head so lube there is not necessary.
@SPTuning4 жыл бұрын
Check the arp website, they do recommend it :)

arp-bolts.com/p/faq.php “Do the threads of the bolts or studs going into the block need lube? Yes. On blind holes use a small amount of ARP Ultra-Torque lube on those threads. Additionally, if the studs protrude into a water jacket, you will need to clean the threads in the block to remove all coolant and oil residue. Apply a liberal amount of ARP thread sealer or a high temperature thread sealer.”

Are u using arps or L19s ??? I'm totally confused rn
@FZERO202 жыл бұрын
@@tonyde1755 they're both ARP L19's tho, are used for very much higher boost levels like drag racing. You'd be fine using the generic ones and running high boost tho

PB-Blaster is a bad idea for cylinder lube because it can't handle pressure. A few times rotating the engine without running it and the piston, rings, and cylinders will just be metal on metal mixed up with it. I used PB-Blaster in a fan in my home after cleaning out all the factor lubricant and after a few hours the bearings were squealing. Regular WD-40 is not a lubricant and should no way ever be used as one in an engine. Now the WD-40 brand does currently make lubricants. Was that what you were talking about? I've always used motor oil to lube the cylinders while building my engines.

I don't know my guy. Lubing the threads that go into the block is nit something I do. It's just a theory I have however I think of it as you don't want the stud to turn very easily. My theory you want the nut to be friction free while the threads in the block you want a lot of friction so they don't slip and turn risking stripping them. I don't know? What do you think of my theory? Please let me know
