Every Dr. Colorchip video I've seen does one thing wrong. You're not supposed to drop the paint ON the chip. You're supposed to drop the paint NEXT TO the chip and then squeegie it into the chip. It apparently works a lot better like that.

You can put PPF on now. Properly filled chips are not very noticeable.

I purchased a Dr. ColorChip kit on 9-2-20 to repair chips on my Tundra (Barcelona Red). Worked as advertised. Today (9-5-21) I attempted to repair two chips on the passenger door. Shook the paint well as before, used the squeegee, let it dry 5 or 6 minutes until dry to the touch. Rubbed lightly with the SealAct and noticed the paint around the chips was dull and there were a couple of other areas that were dull as well. I buffed the area with the microfiber towel but the dull areas remain. This is a Tundra I have babied since I bought it, kept it detailed. I see no mention of shelf life on the box it came in or in any other literature. I am sick.
@PatsGarageOnline3 жыл бұрын
5 or 6 minutes before buffing with seal act is too long, according to the instructions. You may want to try polishing the area and it may bring the shine back.

Hey Pat great video man. Question, do you think you could do another layer of Colorchip to level out the rock chips? So would a second pass of paint fill to the surface of the chip, ensuring a somewhat better blend? Or is one just enough to make it less noticeable? Thanks
@PatsGarageOnline4 жыл бұрын
Yes, you can level it in order to fill the chip. I actually added more paint in order to level it right before doing a paint correction. But, I initially wanted to cover the chip so it wasn't as noticable.

Yes, I know. If SS was smart, he'd reach out to you and invite you to come visit him to do a review. What I'd like to see you do is down load the manuals available on-line just for some light reading, lol, and then get a hold of a C8 that you could spend some time with it so that you could translate what is really going on with all it's electronic wizardry for those of us who won't even be able to pair our cell phones to the C8's computer. Maybe you could surprise us with an upload of opening your garage door only to see two white super cars sitting inside.🤩
@PatsGarageOnline4 жыл бұрын
Lol! I'd have to spend a couple weeks with my nose in their tech training manual to be proficient. However, from what I've read so far, I'm not seeing a huge departure in technology from BMW and Porsche. GM was smart not to reinvent the wheel, so to speak. That car was likely born from systems that already existed and tweaked to GM standards. We should really have a reliable super car in the C8. I'm eager to get one on my quick jack and see what makes it tick. But I doubt anyone would be up for that. I may have to look at the used market when some of these go for sale.

Great video! If I buy the kit but instead of using the Dr. Color Chip paint I use the original paint along with the sealact, would it work? Or is there something special about Dr. Color Chip's painting? Thanks!
@PatsGarageOnline4 жыл бұрын
Thanks! Unfortunately, the SealAct is specifically designed to work with the Dr. Color Chip paint formula. I tried to test it with regular touch up paint and it does nothing. If you're using regular touch up, you can likely get similar results using a paint thinner but your risk damaging your paint.

Hey Pat, have you ever used the Touch Ups Kits from BMW themselves? I've got one coming to me tomorrow and I am wondering if Dr. Colorchip is better?
@PatsGarageOnline4 жыл бұрын
I've never used the BMW kit but it is likely true paint which requires more attention to get it right. It may require layers and wet sanding to get it right. It can be done as a DIY but I wouldn't practice on an i8. It would better be fixed by a professional rather than buy the BMW paint kit
@faizanhaque20702 жыл бұрын
This only filled it. No sanding and leveling out the paint. Unfortunately still seeable, as BMW owner I need it to perfection

A damn semi threw rocks at my car today I was so upset my new BMW I went to the BMW dealer and I bought some touch up paint and clear coat for $33 dollars i hope it works any recommendations for applying the paint to the chips ? I will put PPF once it’s fixed
@PatsGarageOnline4 жыл бұрын
Sorry to hear about the paint chip. Factory paint works different than Dr Colorchip. There are a lot of channels out there that go thru the process, but I've used this method on cars in the past. Add base coat, let dry, add base coat, let dry, add clear, let dry, add clear, let cure. When cured, I masked around the paint blob, put some 800 grit sand paper over a pencil eraser, ad water, and sand the blob down slowly until it's flush with the car paint, then removed the tape. You can mess up your car if you don't do this correctly so definitely research other videos on this.
@nicolathonathan7703 жыл бұрын
Sorry bud, PPF doesn’t work and it’s from my personal experience. It will percent paint swivels but not paint chips. The worst part is when you have rock chip on top of PPF, you have a lot higher risk removing a chunk of you paint around the rock chip.

MPG and MPGe question. If you fully filled your gas tank up and completely charge the battery how many miles could you drive nonstop before you ran out of fuel and battery.

After my experience, it would be around 450 miles
@dthillens4 жыл бұрын
@@KimmiM14x how many gallons of gas is you tank?
@PatsGarageOnline4 жыл бұрын
It depends on how you drive, what featured are turned on and what mode you are using and managing. I've used EcoPro mode, and manually enabled Hold State of Charge over 45MPH, turning that off in stop and go traffic and in town. I've travelled over 400 miles on a tank that way on a long road trip and consumed 10 of the 11 gallons in the tank. If you drive in Sport Mode the entire time with plenty of hard accelerations, then you can expect under 250 to 300 miles. No i8 owner is going to be able to give you the same numbers because we all drive differently, and depending on hills and climate, energy consumption can be wildly different.
@dthillens4 жыл бұрын
@@PatsGarageOnline thanks. It's always confusing when they tell you the MPGe is around 75 miles but the battery only lasts for 22 miles. With your averages it looks to be 25 to 30 mpg sport mode and 40 mpg eco mode plus adding a couple of bucks for the original electrical charge gives me a pretty good idea on costs.
