I was skiing for two years when I watched this video. I had almost given up due to foot pain. I got new boots, had them punched out and still pain. I never had anybody show me how to ski or do up my boots and when I tried what you showed in this video my foot pain improved probably 90%. It really made a huge difference as I could never get above green runs as I always had to take a half hour break between every run to take my boots off. Now I’m finally doing blacks. Thank you so much!! 🙏

I have bought new boots, because nothing that was done to help adjust my old boots was helping. My right ski in particular would start to "chatter" even on a green slope and I would be in pain which of course led to me failing (I am an intermediate skier and can go down a black diamond slope if it is groomed). Your pictures of the foot in the boot is definitely going to help me explain to my ski shop what is not right. I have a small boot, 22.5 and I’m short. Thanks so much for this video.

Love ya my guy,,,, I need your help. Im in a pair of Atomic Hawk 130, ultra xtd. They were great for 14 days,, now im getting great pain in my heel.. I dont believe pronation to be the problem. I did change the cuff buckle setting though. Question,,, could the cuff buckle angle be applying pressure in a diffrent area causing me pain,,, ( im unable to ski em) I loosened the hold but the pain continued. Im gonna switch em back and see if i get relief. My first thought was that the boot board was to high putting my heel in a bad spot, ( the heel on the boot has a shape, to help with heel hold) p.s there is also a stitch in the liner on the heel)) Any way,, wondering if you encountered this befor :) Thanks for everything :)

Found this video while looking around for more info about peroneal pain after skiing, so was very interested in your comments on that topic, as I've been unable to find much helpful information on this. I have new boots (Dalbello 120s...used for about 8 ski days so far) that seem to be causing post-ski peroneal issues - after a day or two of skiing that area above the ankle on the outer leg becomes sore and tender and takes a week or so to clear up. The boots were also a bit too compressed in the forefoot area which was causing significant foot pain while skiing - I've had recent adjustments made to the boots and liners (loosening the top buckle + making more room in that part of the liner). With those adjustments, the foot pain is gone and I'm able to ski comfortably all day, but have found that the peroneal issue remains. Next trip, I'll try loosening the top buckle and strap as it's quite possible I've had these over tightened. Beyond that, are there any other boot tweaks you would recommend investigating that might relate to this problem? Thanks!
@PatriotFootbeds
@PatriotFootbeds 7 жыл бұрын
Hi Bryan, Yeah definitely try a different amount of buckle and powerstrap tension next time you ski. Its best to feel solid, not cranked in the cuff. If the peroneal pain continues, it could be a stance issue where you should check your cuff alignment and footbed. Which dalbello boot are you in? Those muscles really activate when driving the inside ski so by making sure you are central or tilted slightly out will help alleviate the strain exerted on them.
@dancemasters2011
@dancemasters2011 7 жыл бұрын
Will definitely try to loosen those up a bit. My initial response was to go even tighter in an attempt to "stabilize" the area and prevent those tendons from moving, so that may have exacerbated the issue. I have high arches and had custom footbeds made...so I should be getting the appropriate support there. Boot-wise, it sounds like cuff alignment is the next thing to check out. The boots are Panterra 120s. Stance could definitely be a factor and it's something I've been working on. I started skiing 4 years ago and am at an intermediate level - pretty confident on blues but I tend to avoid anything more advanced. The area I've been focusing on most recently is getting more comfortable with a forward posture and working my way down the hill confidently, rather than defensively. Based on your comment, I wonder if I am putting too much weight on that inside ski as a way of controlling my speed, which is putting undue pressure on the peroneal area. I'll be paying a lot of attention to this next trip. Anyway, great videos, and thanks for responding!
@PatriotFootbeds
@PatriotFootbeds 7 жыл бұрын
Great Bryan! Another thing you can experiment with very easily in that Panterra boot is your ramp angle. If you look on the heel there is a screw that takes a hex key. By winding it clockwise you can increase your angle and this may have a positive effect for you. Especially in relation to staying forward without fighting as hard. The reason I mentioned the footbeds as well, is because if the posting on the custom is too hard it may contribute towards this also. Something that you would be able to mellow out. Cheers, good luck and it would be great to hear how it goes! Craig

I have a 3 buckle boot, but my second buckle is where the "danger buckle" is, instead of directly on the ankle like the 3 buckle boot you showed. Should I still consider it my most important buckle, or should I rely more on the buckle that's on my leg?
@PatriotFootbeds
@PatriotFootbeds 6 жыл бұрын
Hi Ben, No for sure the buckle that is on your leg / upper cuff will be much more important for securing your lower leg, heel and ankles. Buckles that sit directly over the top of your foot dont require as much tension. Just do those bottom two up to where you feel enough foot security. Do the top buckle up with a good amount of tension.

@PatriotFootbeds
@PatriotFootbeds 6 жыл бұрын
Hey Marin, yeah first try with your powerstrap first before doing up the cuff buckles. Also I have some products to help solve this issue. Firstly a tongue shim to take out excess space and also Dualstraps to get the best tightening of the liner and the cuff at the same time. Check em out - patriotfootbeds.com/products/dualstraps

For whatever reason I have the problem of either my top buckle or my bottom buckle having little to no tension, and for the top one I can’t screw the micro adjustments any further. Any ideas?
@PatriotFootbeds
@PatriotFootbeds 5 жыл бұрын
The only other thing I would suggest is moving the buckle ladders to get the tension you need. Playing with the position should allow you to get it right. Alternatively I would suggest that you can add extra tension while you are skiing and then undoing the buckle for the lift ride up. (if you cant find the sweet spot)

I want to maybe drill a hole to move the buckle teeth? I have similar Salomon boot. Or I head heel lifts can help bring the calf up? Thanks!
@PatriotFootbeds

Yeah both strategies can work well. I would definitely look to move the buckle first. Where do you get the blisters? On the calf itself or where the liner meets at the tongue?

For freestyle skier they chose more flexible boots or less flexible boots? In other words, is there difference between all mountain skier boots and freestyle skier's boots?
@PatriotFootbeds
@PatriotFootbeds 7 жыл бұрын
Hi Peter, There should be no real difference in choice of flex for freestyle skiers. The real key for flex should be to suit your weight and ability to flex the boot properly. If the boot is too stiff, it will force a skier into the backseat. If too soft, you will not have the desired control. In terms of shock absorbing for the legs, it is all about a proper fit around the leg and being supported with a footbed. :)

I always get a cramp on my second toe (next to big toe). I’m thinking it’s a buckling issue, what do you suggest?
@PatriotFootbeds
@PatriotFootbeds 3 жыл бұрын
Possibly, could also be a width issue or a nerve issue. I would suggest really thin socks first. Then footbeds. Then some more assessment of the boot if required. :)

As a beginner I was sold a pair of Atomic Hawx Magna 80. They are comfortable but I’m not sure if they’re too wide for me. The shop told me all beginner boots have a wider last and it’s ok that they are a bit looser as long as the length is good (it’s perfect). I did some research and they appear to be right. Every biginner boot has a wide last. Should I worry or just use them?
@PatriotFootbeds
@PatriotFootbeds Жыл бұрын
Hi, yeah so often stores will fit beginners into wider boots as it is easier for someone unfamiliar with ski boots to feel comfortable right away. This is also the case with a lot of rental ski boots being wider for this reason. But it is kind of a misnomer. It will just depend on how fast you build your skills or how often you intend to ski that will determine if they will continue to work for you. The best thing to do to get you to that intermediate and advanced level is to have a boot that is suited to your actual foot width and dimensions. This will give you better steering and more comfort as you will gain a better support and secure feeling for skiing. Also there is more beginner boots in narrower options. For example, even Atomic make a Hawx Prime 90 and a Hawx Ultra 100. Which are both narrower versions in softer flexes for beginners growing to intermediate skiers. :)
@NOYBidness
@NOYBidness Жыл бұрын
@@PatriotFootbeds so should I try to return these? I went back to the store and tried on other boots. These felt similar to others and not all that much different to narrower last boots like a Nordica 100 last. I was fine with these boots until I got home and started reading and watching videos. Now I’m thinking they aren’t tight enough. I never really thought I had a wide foot but they set me up with these so I bought them. I’m thinking of returning them and getting the prime 90s you mentioned online

Yes it should! It is crucial in getting a good drive through your boots. Also you may find it to be a stance angle, so try putting a spoiler on the back of your liner for more forward lean. Or if it remains, it could be the sizing that may need more attention. :) Cheers
