The old saying "You can't teach an old dog new tricks" is a falsity. Thanks to the internet and the wide variety of experiences of each of us, this 66 year old dog has heard and learned something new. Guess I'm "old school" because I'm still learning. Thanks to Joe Flow for the request and to the lovely Maddy for the reaction! ✌️☮️🤙🤟🎸🥁🎤🎸❤️

Corrosion of Conformity was originally formed in North Carolina as a hardcore punk band in the 80's and released albums like 'Eye for an eye'... and 'Animosity'... New Orleans native Pepper Keenan (guitar) joined for their album 'Blind' in 1991, which marked a sonic change into heavy metal w/ hints of early Black Sabbath... Pepper Keenan became the lead singer of Corrosion of Conformity by 1994 for this album 'Deliverance' - it became their biggest record, selling a half million copies in the US. Pepper Keenan also found success in the band Down, which he formed w/ Pantera vocalist Phil Anselmo and released their debut album 'NOLA' in 1995. In 1996, Corrosion seemed to have a winning hand... their next album 'Wiseblood' and a tour opening for Metallica in 1997... However, their label Columbia dropped the ball and the record sold about 140K copies in the US w/ little promotion... The band recorded a more commercial album "America's volume dealer" but the label dropped the record to a smaller label which released it in 2000... Original drummer Reed Mullin was frustrated and left the band. In 2005, Corrosion of Conformity released 'In the arms of God'... a heavier effort but sales did not improve. Pepper Keenan became busy w/ Down and Corrosion of Conformity went on hiatus. In 2010, Corrosion of Conformity reformed as a trio (Drummer Reed Mullin, guitarist Woody Weatherman, and bassist Mike Dean on vocals) and released 2 albums - 'Corrosion of Conformity' (2012) and 'IX' (2014). Reed Mullin also toured w/ vocalist Karl Agell as Corrosion of Conformity Blind... to play the entire 1991 album 'Blind' in concert. In 2015, Pepper Keenan finally rejoined Corrosion of Conformity for a tour and they released a new album 'No Cross no crown' in 2018. Sadly, drummer Reed Mullin suffered from alcoholism that affected his health... he had to be substituted on tour. Reed Mullin passed away in early 2020... (R.I.P.) and the band named John Green as the touring drummer. They announced plans for a new album recently. Other Corrosion of Conformity songs - "Clean my wounds" ... 'Congratulations song' ... 'Vote with a bullet' ... 'My grain' ... 'King of the rotten'... 'Broken man'... 🤘🤘🔥🔥

C.O.C. has been one of those bands that have trasnformed over their career. First album is a old school punk classic. 2nd album was like Hardcore. The following EP was like thrash metal and then their 3rd full album, Blind, is a favorite among old school fans. This is from their 4th album which is more like stoner rock I guess. Amazing band. Have had their logo tattoo for several years now. Reed was their drummer but passed away a few years back unfortunately. Great reaction! Am happy when people discover their music!

Released in 1994. I felt some Zeppelin/Sabbath vibes from this song. I really liked how the guitar solos were out front with lots of clarity.

i saw nor felt any zepplin here at all/ absoultely lacking in the guitar weaving in harmony with vocal tracks and please do not say black dog as that song was performed with the bass in its own time signiture and the guitar in its own, and the drums in its own. sounds more like s Ted nUGENT SONG NOT SABBATH OR ZEPPLIN.
@Sammylu-greenbeatsredАй бұрын
@@Lane2268 I could be wrong. I thought I heard a little "No Quarter" riff during the chorus. As far as Sabbath I was thinking something from Master Of Reality but I can't pin it down. Anyway I enjoyed this video.
@Lane2268Ай бұрын
@@Sammylu-greenbeatsred i think it was ok, for me a little super heavy on power chords, but that is rythym work, the lead sounded good buit never reminded me of Sabbath or Zepplin, It did remind me more of the late 70's early 80's riffs, boit bad becuase i love nugent. But as a person who has been at the guitar every since 1977, I can say I hate comparisons while yes there are similarities in all play. Change the scale change the progression add a few sus note and weave in more harmonic scale out of the Penatonic scale or major minor scales and you have a turf to play on. For last 12 years I have been studying more classical guitar and pure metal because Metal is truely the love child of Classical music. Acts like Nightwish, Epica, within Temptation, Stevie Vai, and even Al Marconi a flaminco welsh guitarist, I refuse the Goat questions becuase in every mind there is a goat, let the trash of the rolling stones list guitarists. Very rarely will you see flaminco or true classical or great jazz and country/bluegrass guitars. in metal your riffs will rarely disinclude power chords but it should not inhibit a rythym guitar that would be free to play harmonicly in structure with teh lead. The Eagles were masters of this as were Boston and other bands including skinnard, it alsmost seems lost becuase Rock has falled a step or two behind pop in number of downloaads. but the quality is far superior as music is concerned than pop.
@Sammylu-greenbeatsredАй бұрын
@@Lane2268 Growing up in the late 60s early 70s I did get to see Sabbath a couple times. I saw The Eagles, Zeppelin, Grand Funk Railroad. I missed Jimi though because I was a bit too young when he came to town. I never saw Eric Clapton and Cream but I did get to see Jeff Beck (RIP) about 5 years before his passing. He was touring with ZZ Top. The Doobie Brothers and The Allman Brothers were fun to listen to. I did really enjoy some of the jazz fusion like Jeff Beck Wired, The Brecker Brothers with sax and trumpet, and Jean Luc Ponty violin. Did you get a chance to check out the Vanessa Williams track Maddy posted? It was for last Christmas but got delayed. Lol. Real jazzy.

Their early stuff was much faster. They were a hardcore punk band back in the 80s, but they've morphed. Their second iteration was more of a political thrash metal and now with their latest singer are more of a Southern Metal/Grunge sound. It's kind of interesting considering the guitar, drums and base are all from the original lineup.

Go back through the Animosity album though Blind and Deliverance to see the evolution of the band (maybe read the lyrics, 80’s CoC is hardcore). Notice how the content reflects the politics of each era.

Pearls before Swine is the last song on this album vs Hungry Child/Animosity in their punk era, the band’s a 40 year commentary of bible belt politics.
