Grateful for making the video tutorial. It's worth pointing out to viewers that you don't need to touch the engine part of the mount to fit a belt, just support the engine and remove the inner wing mount, (3 bolts from above). Drop the the belt over the water pump pulley and refit the mount and engine support jack before continuing on. You can access the upper tensioner bolt from underneath with an 11mm or E12 ratchet spanner. The longer reach the better.
@martindavenport2253 жыл бұрын
You don’t need to take the tensioner off. Put a spanner (I bought an extra long E14/16 to make it easier) on the top bolt and compress the spring, turning clockwise. A ribbon of metal is inside the spring and comes out of the top. You then stick something like a nail of drill bit in the hole in the ribbon and it keeps it compressed.

Anyone watching this don’t remove engine mount, put Jack under engine and remove top two engine mount bolts only. The tensioner is easy, 11mm spanner and a bit of pipe, turn clockwise to release tension. So much easier than video

It seriously was! I had put it off before the job bcos of how awkward those bolts are placed, well the engine mount in general for that matter.

Tom's Driveway your dewalt cordless wrench is it best if i buy 1/2 or 3/8 which size would recommend mostly for use on cars ?
@TomsDriveway5 жыл бұрын
@@irishdog2031 both of my impacts are 1/2 inch, and I use a 3/8 inch reducer as the majority of my sockets are 3/8 drive. I'd personally say 1/2 as it's got a bigger drive size

I changed my Corsa D Serpentine belt today, what a nightmare!!! Trying to get the new belt back on!! It had a new tensioner last year. Even when I tried and tried with my arm in agony trying to keep the tension off I did put an allun key in the hole but it needed more tension taken off tried for ages to get the new belt on over the Crank Pulley it just did not want to go on!!!! Had to use the flat head screwdriver to edge it on the pulley being careful not to damage the new belt. Not sure why it was sooooo bloody hard even with the tension off!!! finally done it Apparently these belts last 10 years Had the old one on since I bought the car brand new in 2010 so hopefully won’t ever have to touch it again. Also I’ve bought a torque wrench I used to use a breaker bar to tighten my wheel studs but I’ve seen on videos on KZbin using a breaker bar or an impact wrench is the wrong way to tighten wheel studs as you could mess the threads up on the hub. I torqued my wheel studs down to the manufactures specifications, this is the correct way. Will check them every week or so I was WELL over tightening my wheel studs before which is definitely not good.
@martindavenport2253 жыл бұрын
You don’t mess up the thread by over torquing, you end up shearing the bolt.

Hello Tom, great video. I have a 2010 Corsa D 1.2l, the A/C compressor has been making noise for ages and it recently stopped working. I was thinking of putting a non-ac belt so it stops the winding noise but it's such a hassle I don't know if I'll get to it!
@marcelh23415 жыл бұрын
Did you break your new heated mirrors? :p When you will be releasing the video? :D
@fiazshah38385 жыл бұрын
On some cars you literally just release the tension, reach in an pull out the belt. Not on the corsa though! Useful vid.

Headlight bulbs are fun too, the manual was written for the opel which has slightly different geometry due to the steering rack, and much more room. To get the passenger side one out I had to remove a couple of bumper screws, get the whole headlight assembly loose and then had access.

You are telling us the wrong way to undo the E14 bolt on the tensioner to loosen the belt, correct way is clockwise. Anti-clockwise loosens the bolt.

Hi Tom Driving a 2010 Corsa 1.4 Essentia. I have 126000 km on the clock. When would I need to change said belt?
@TomsDriveway5 жыл бұрын
Inspect the belt for signs of wear, so look at the ribs is there cracking, pieces missing even? If yes then definitely. Basically just inspect the condition of the rubber.

Hi Did you undo the centre exhaust to cat bolts when lift the engine high enough to get that front bolt out ?
@TomsDriveway5 жыл бұрын
I didn't actually, I suppose it does put strain on the flexi pipe. However, its minimal really but I guess really you should take it off.
@GarysTechSupport5 жыл бұрын
When I did my head gasket I lifted the engine to get that front bolt out but my bottle went, was worried about hearing a snap of either the gearbox mounts breaking, so I cut that bolt and put stud bar back in, but now I’ve seen you left yours I’ll do the same I bought a new bolt but used the stud. I wasted hours messing about trying to get that front bolt out as you have to lift it like 2-3 inches, wished you’d done yours 3 weeks earlier would of save me a massive head ache. Good. Video
@TomsDriveway5 жыл бұрын
@@GarysTechSupport yeah I can see why you were worried. It is rather awkward the way you have to manipulate the engine and car to get the bolts out. But it was fine.

What a ridiculous ball ache for what should be a simple job. And I was wondering why the previous owner of my GFs car never changed the belts at the correct service interval. I wish designers would start to think about how the final vehicle will be serviced once it's all together.
