@Tech of Tomorrow, your incorrect about how the fan works. It doesn't slow way down when it's under a small load. It actually completely stops, as in 0 rpm.

Silica gel isn't at all useless. If you but it in your case, it takes out most of the moisture meaning the dust won't stick to the inside of your computer so easily.

The classifications are based on power efficiency. Bronze power supplies use the most electricity thus making more heat. This shouldn't really be a problem because the fans get rid of most of the heat anyway.

Non-modular psu's have to have all the cables attached at once where as fully modular you can pick and choose and only attach the cables you need. This helps make the PC look nicer if u have a side window and more importantly if there are less cables then cable management is much easier :) Also modular PSU's are often more efficient and quieter as they are targeted at a more premium market rather than the budget market :)

Modular let you control the amount of cables you use, non modular already have the cables connected

I'm hoping that within a couple years they can reduce the size of the PSU. I've gotten to the point now where I'm looking to build smaller more power efficient while still very powerful systems. Loving the new mini-itx cases and motherboards etc coming out.

Take the power supply's rating, for example, 400 watts. then look at its efficiency, for example, 70%. now take 70% of 400, which is 280 watts. You would be safe with any components that don't draw over 280 watts. I'd recommend using PCpartpicker for estimating this, just enter in all the parts you have, and then look at the estimated wattage.

I can get a 80+ 650W Ultra psu for 50 bucks anywhere else though whats the point in paying over twice as much for a psu just because it has a gold rating?

@AHauntedArmy11 жыл бұрын
that's not how it works, 400watts would be the maximum output of the PSU not its power draw from the wall, so at 400watts and 70% efficiency it would be drawing 680watts from the wall. as long as the PSU has good quality parts it will be fine up to 400watts total on your components, you'll just be paying for 680watts of use on your electricity bill.
@1995hss11 жыл бұрын
Oh okay. TDP is the "Thermal design power". This is the maximum amount of power the component should draw. CPU often draw less (My i5 3570k @4.4 draws 72 but has a 77w tdp) and some graphics card (as the HD7970 GHz) sometimes draw a bit more but it is pretty accurate. You just add that up ( the rest of your system also needs power but much less than cpu+ vga) and that's the minimum power supply you need. If you overclock, the components draw a bit more power.
@Tomiking3311 жыл бұрын
Use a power supply calculator. (just google it) as it depends on the rest of your system

if you plan on sli or crossfire in the future I would get a 850 watt, more is always better dont listen to the skeptics saying it isnt, the reason why it wouldnt be better is because its slightly more expensive but worth it if you are thinking future tbh

I'm about to purchase a gaming PC, i7 4770K, evga GTX 780 superclocked ACx etc - will a 650w power supply be sufficient?? How do you find out if it should be a 500w, 650w or a 850w? I'm really confused which to choose - I want to be able to overclock the CPU a bit too.

Ultra PSU's have a lifetime warrenty and have some of the best reliability of any psu in the market. Look at the reviews it usualy has 10-100 times more reviews than any other psu on most general sites. Not trying to advertise anything i just think its way to overpriced for something not even close to 800W+
