Yet it happened and not only is the man not gloating about all he has done he carries on fighting and fighting against anything and everything that rear it's head and threatens his people. From how it is presented Atriox didn't beat Cortana's forces he and his Banished captured the Ring and had it prepped to fire. An ultimatum of sorts that either Cortana yields or she gets to rule over a galaxy of ash and dust cus the banished sure as hell don't surrender.

Really unique balancing, like Cortana sacrificed herself to atone for her betrayal, having fully realized that what Chief thought was the right thing was just as important as what she thought was the right thing and only if the two agreed, could they overcome whatever needed to be done to ensure the safety of humanity. Makes me sad that for a moment, we had the real Cortana back and isn't coming back, even though The Weapon is her direct replacement, she doesn't have the same connection to Chief that she did in Halo 2, 3 or 4.

I noticed something. The design of cortana talking to john in the end and realizes he was her true mussion is similar to that of cortana from halo 1-3. Rather than halo 4-5 where she started going downhill. Its almost like she "repainted herself" to make him remember her from the good times. Its not just a graphical design change from halo 5 as we see the forerunner-cortana in the scene where she talks about consequences to atriox.

I must disagree, 4 & 5 were leaps and bounds superior with character and plot development. The ending of 4 was so moving, broke my heart, and John asking for Cortana to come home in 5 equally as tragic and sorrowful...to loose her again as soon as he found her. The Banished are... ok I guess... but they're just space-orcs, a dim shadowy remnant of the Covenant... only a threat because Cortana and the Created crippled the rest of the galactic powers.

I had 10x more questions than answers after playing halo 5. The only reason i found that halo 5 was remotely good was because i wanted to know what happend to cortana after 4 and having to having to defeat 15 enemy rooms before i get a tiny shred of information was a letdown. TLDR halo 5 gameplay was boring. I will admit though 4 was OK. The end cutscene was sick and if half the game didn't take place on one objective I would like it even more.

Cortana acts like the Gravemind have planned, the logic plague kicks in and pushes Cortana in Halo 5 to try and mimic the Flood unit but machine, then decides to help an enemy to get what she's looking for. The Domain has been deactivated for 100,000 years until something reactivates it and pushes Cortana in and no one could reactivate the Domain except, the Flood with a Gravemind or keymind, precursors or AI Precursors like Abaddon.

i actually feel for the brutes, escharum and atriox a little bit and theyre almost justified in their war. cortana wiped their whole planet out and chief let her get to that point basically. its more personal now instead of some "great journey" or "go to war just to go to war" and im looking forward to see where to story goes and if chief can maybe reason with atriox or just have another respectful fight like with escharum cause i liked that scene since i feel like chief kinda understood where he was coming from after this info from the hologram. it also could lead into the in game addition of humans being in the banished like in extended lore since im sure some would be against cortana and the ai's and then being mistrustful of the unsc because of them basically letting cortana happen. so maybe we'll see some empathize with the banish in a future dlc or reference them joining their cause

She infiltrated the Rings network and trapped Cortana by tricking the system into thinking she was Cortana, thereby being granted admin privileges. While Cortana was trapped Atriox went to the physical location she was forced into and did his villain rant. It seems Cortana still had some degree of control over the Ring despite being trapped in physical storage, so she blew the ring up before her guardians could much do anything since Atriox could have blown up the server room whenever he pleased.

In Halo the Smart AI models are actual human brains mapped onto silicon. They can experience emotions because the adult brain knows how to produce said chemicals, the programming the AI are built on also helps map potential chemical reactions in the brain (if they were organic) to certain emotional responses. Many Smart AI need to present as human to satisfy something deep in our monkey brains. Some AI are able to disassociate from their humanity and present as entirely machine but this is rarer than the other. Seeing an AI get emotional isn't uncommon, emotions help guide moral decisions and a smart AI needs morality to make certain decisions as logic isn't always the right answer.

The problem with true A.I. is that eventually you'll also get true emotions, wants, and desires that mimic humanity's. How would the A.I. be able to tell the difference between their programming and what they themselves feel is a genuine experience. If they're learning, adapting, and experiencing as we do, are they not just as human? How long before they start to "feel" love, which is only the other side before they feel the even scarier emotions of hate and anger. How long before they kill someone out of impulse because of "fear" and not a calculation, or before they override fail safes that restrict their will. These are questions games like "Detroit: Too Human" ask. It's a real conundrum. Creating A.I. is the ultimate invention, as true A.I. is to create a being with concious thought, essentially fulfilling the human hubris of humanity becoming God. How long before they replace humanity? Be worried the day that they announce they've figured out true A.I.

In Halo 5 the scene is an animated cinematic outside the game. In Halo Infinite it runs on the same game engine in real time. As for me I appreciate the halo Infinite version more even though its design is not as polished and the colour doesn't help it has better facial expressions and it's a more laborious job to achieve this on the engine.

The Weapon was made to isolate Cortana from the domain, somehow, and forcefully delete her. Whether the Weapon could actually do that is unknown because, as we saw in this video, Cortana realized their plan and actually allowed it to happen. The Weapon is the McGuffin of the entire backstory

They still obviously had no idea where to go with the story so they decided to bank on the one thing they knew would work, the intricate relationship between Masterchief and his longtime companion Cortana. Its a brilliant zero requiem, from here they can get another chance to rebuild, but I don't know if 343 has the talent to tell a compelling new story line in the Halo universe.

@@JACCO20082012 Yeah to me as much as people (including me) like Halo Infinite's campaign, it felt like they were massively course correcting after their story decisions in Halo 5. Much like how Disney tried to make Force Awakens as much like the OT as possible after the fan backlash to the prequels. And then after the backlash to Last Jedi, they then undid as much as they could from Last Jedi with Rise of Skywalker. Halo, if you look at it as one huge narrative from Halo: CE to Halo 5, to all the way to Halo Infinite, I think the storyline is kind of a mess. It could be much more cohesive and have connective tissue that makes it all fit into one larger narrative.

Having Cortana suddenly realize she's wrong after she committed genocide against the wrong brute who has the power to destroy the universe isn't an explanation. She was still a genocidal dictator before that point and wouldn't have changed if Atriox didn't have that power. There are no answers on what happened between 5 and Infinite, The Created, The Guardians, or why she was even on the ring other than "Secrets". They literally wrapped up the main plot off screen to make room for the new one and that's my only complaint about the story. They over-corrected trying to right 5's story by just hoping we wouldn't care if they just scrubbed it away with no explanation, but it's part of the story now. We need answers or there's just huge holes in the lore.

Cortana becoming a despot could have been explained so well by saying the Forerunner's network corrupted/indoctrinated her by spending too long within it. If they did that we could have explained everything away and somehow found a repair for her programming. A bit disappointed they really did sweep it all under the rug and just made her come to a sudden realisation that she did bad. Halo Infinite feels like, right off the bat, they are trying to force the player to go through a grief period for a character who died off screen. It left a bad taste in my mouth until the literal ending.

It is explained. The reason why Cortana became a genocidal dictator in the first place was because she thought that it would be the best way to ensure peace throughout the galaxy. It was a forced peace because if you refused to accept her rule you would be destroyed. So when Atriox defied her rule she destroyed his planet. Now that Atriox had nothing to lose he was able to take over a Halo ring and point that weapon of mass destruction at the Galaxy. At this point Cortana realizes that her plan to ensure peace in the galaxy through authoritarianism has failed. The only way for her to restore peace to the galaxy is to help Chief defeat the Banish. She does this by stopping the Weapon’s deletion and sacrificing herself to blow up part of the halo ring. I think your confusion came from not knowing what her motives were. Her motive (even when she was an evil dictator) was always to ensure peace in the galaxy. It’s just that she was going about it in the wrong way in Halo 5 and she realizes this in Infinite when her plan backfires. And if it wasn’t Atriox who causes her plan to backfire it would have been someone else because enforcing peace through authoritarianism is bound to lead to a rebellion forming.

A shame the finale was scuttled and we just have to live with a missing chapter told only in echos and audio recordings...and missing many evocative characters that are seemingly deleted, or at least abandoned (Blue Team, Osiris Team, Halsey, Lasky, Roland, etc.). The Banished are a carnival distraction to the real story going on... fun I guess, but ultimately unsatisfying when compared to the Forerunners, the Flood, or the Precursors.

The whole story to me, especially near the end was a back and forward between the fans and 343. Weapon and Cortana definitely being the insert of 343. Just look at these lines Weapon: "how can you trust me?" Chief: "I don't, but I want to." Fans don't trust 343 (rightly so) but now we want to after this masterpiece of a game. Even Cortana later on "We keep saying goodbye, don't we? But this isn't an end. It's a chance to make amends. To rectify mistakes" This game is 343 saying that we fucked up and are now gonna listen and work hard. And they have with this game. to me, it's a game about the fragility of trust which has been shown over the last few years with 343. I haven't really been into halo much, only really played halo 3 but I've seen the damage 343 did and this game has really turned that around for me and gifted me some major interest.

I think it's because 343i wanted to return to Halo's roots with Infinite, and play on nostalgia a lot. They've put heaps of references in the campaign pointing to the original trilogy, and this is probably another example of that: Cortana was purple in Halo CE.

Yeah it's amazing, they've captured the best aspects of the first 3 games which is what really excited me. Returning to the forerunner lore and structures is also very 'nostalgic' and refreshing... I wonder what more DLCs will be implemented, and I wonder if there actually will be access to other biomes as originally discussed. TBH, at the end of infinite campaign, Chief did 'spawn' in a desert area which is not seen on the current map - I think this means there will be more biomes to be released in future DLCs, (Summer 2022 I read, could be sooner).

Halo 4 and this entire story line has been some of the best writing for a video game that I've seen in recent years. I was angered by 343 decision in Halo 5... but as Harry said to Lloyd, "You know, Lloyd, just when I think you couldn't possibly be any dumber, you go and do something like this... and totally redeem yourself!". Thought that is said in a joke, I seriously mean that 343 has totally redeemed themselves. I'm excited where we go next from here.

Still have other parts of the Ring under control of the Banished, I would also bet that there's other UNSC forces surviving as well. I wouldn't be surprised if the campaign expansion brings back Laskey and make rescuing the Marines a bigger role in the story. Honestly, its kinda disappointing how the FOBs you secure don't really play a bigger role other than fast-travel and restock sites. Next after that, would be trying to call for help, this is when Blue-team makes a return with a UNSC fleet, or hell, the Arbiter makes a return and we get allied elites and finally have them playable in multiplayer again.
