My favorite Neil Young song of all time! And you do it justice

By far one of Neils best solos, so much raw emotion put into this solo. Simple yet so powerful at the same time. A true masterpiece in my opinion. Great cover and great lesson as well on this solo. Have yet to find a better lesson

WELL DONE! You are right on! Neil Young is not the technical type. It’s about the feelings and emotions that come with his music. Warren Hayes takes the solo to another level… You hit it out of the park! Great job and thanks for the insight!

Beautiful song. Great cover of it. Neil Young is one of the ultimate "feel" guitarists.

ERIC! Thanks. Good to hear from you. Yes, I agree. He definitely puts everything he's got into his solos. Not the most technically gifted of players, but one of the most soulful. One can feel every note he plays.

The greatest thing about these videos is the way they crossover so many different genres of music and styles of guitar playing and your discovery or affirmation of why the solos are great depending on your familiarity of them. You’re both a teacher and a student in a master class on the history of rock guitar playing. I look forward to these videos every week. Awesome work.

Wow that’s really nice. Can’t believe I missed your channel but I’m sure glad I’m here now . Very often just watching somebody play a song well is the best lesson you can get. Neil moves around so much that it’s impossible to see what he’s doing. The droning notes of the double drop d tuning help to create the mood. Definitely worth digging into.

Love Neil's shaky guitar playing. He's got some awesome solos, some only use one note! -- Cowgirl in the sand, Cinnamon Girl, Southern Man on CSNY's Four Way Street. Live I've seen him stretch Cortez out for 1/2 an hour. Zuma's a great record as well; Often overlooked but one of my faves.

I was holding it between my pinky and ring finger throughout the end part. Just banging on the notes and giving it some hard vibrato. Added some chorus to give it some wobble as well.

Thank you! .. Are you still using Bias fx2? If so I was just curious if you had tried any other vst's and or amp sim software? I am trying to navigate this water. It seems like bias fx2 is getting lots of praise but there is tonex and a host of other software. Was wondering if you could shed some light on this... I live way out in the country and I'm trying to set me up a home studio for the first time..thx 🙏

Thank you for posting this and the other longer note for note lesson video. Could you tell us what the three note sequence is that you play starting at just over 3 minutes in this video? It is a repeating pattern that you play. I have been trying to figure it out but cannot seem to get the right notes. I am assuming this video like the other was recorded in double drop D tuning? Thanks again Dean!

Hey, only found your channel recently and was going back through the videos. I'm a huge Neil Young fan, and really liked hearing what you had to say about this song. I don't think you really take requests, but I'd like to hear your thoughts on this solo compared to the version from Live Rust. My ma always said that Neil never played a solo the same twice, which as far as I can tell wasn't much of an exaggeration on her part.
@cledithmartin4524 жыл бұрын
Your mother is absolutely right. 😂👍 I’m 19 and my father has always listened to Neil and it got me into him. Always improvises a new solo each time he plays the majority of his songs. Their were just jam tracks to him. He would go out in his field in a huge barn and record albums and then go out in the field and blare it on huge monitor speakers in the barn and listen from a distance. Very unique approach to music and a very unique passion.

@@KellyDeanAllenGuitar Oh...That explains it... :o). Is Sweet Child of Mine forthcoming. (Many vid's on the 1st solo...nothing much on the solo toward the end of the song. Food for thought....honorable mention if not on 100 list..?? BTW, big fan of Dicky Betts. My best pals wife cleaned house for him for many years, 10+ easily. I got a signed Allman Bros pic via them, pretty cool. Per my pal's wife, Dickie (toward the end of their work relationship), was quite an ass. She quit when he wanted her to come to work in a French Maids outfit. Agh, the life of an (ageing) rock star. Kinda sad really, my pal's wife was pretty upset about the whole thing. Enough dirt...keep rocking!!!

Trust me- if a musician of Neil Young’s caliber wanted to be a highly technical soloist he 100% could have been. But he was more interested in feel, tone and reckless abandon
