easy as pie thank you sir. nobody would be complaining about cutting a hole in the cowl if gm would have just thought to include it for easy access.

Better to just follow the factory method. Took me 2 hours taking my time,changed the intake manifold gaskets as well as the 2 knock sensors.Well worth the effort

I finished the sensor relocation on my 2003 C5 today. I did this job about 2 years ago but I didn't install the extender. So, here we are again. (I bought the extender hose with fittings on Amazon for $99). I didn't want to disturb more than necessary and I didn't want to drill any holes. I did not remove anything except the plastic engine cover. Although it was a royal pain in the butt, I was able to disconnect the old sensor and pull it out. For me, the hardest part was threading the extender hose into the engine. I could not get the threads lined up while rotating the hose. I had my son come over and somehow he got it threaded on his first try. 8-) Now, my oil pressure gage no longer thinks it's a windshield wiper. It was continuously slamming full scale and back to zero. Now it sits rock steady at 42 PSI at cold idle. If (when?) this new sensor fails, it will be very easy to replace it.

Just did this on my 02’ and it was not bad at all. I had trouble getting the windshield wipers off but they gave in eventually. Also, I didn’t have a dremel or anything so what I did was take my 20v impact drill with a bit and made small holes one at a time until I made a big enough square shape and finally I pried the piece off with a flathead. I definitely spent about an hour and a half doing it this way but it worked pretty well.

I just found his today. Great idea. Saves a lot of disassembly not even necessary. If I ever have to replace my sensor, I am going to doing your way. Good attitude towards the bozos that call this butchery. No one will ever see it. Subbed and liked.

Heard about this on Corvette Forum, nice trick, good video and explanation of every step of your process, thanks for sharing. Mine is an '03, 135k miles, gauge just failed recently and as my car is no garage queen or show car, very much a daily driver that I love and take of care of to a reasonable extent - I'll be doing it this way.

@@basicdetail4512 I had my C5 in the local Corvette specialty shop recently and this fix came up, the rep really badmouthed anyone who would do such a thing. I was laughing inside knowing I was planning to do this exactly. Thanks! Bought the socket and the clamp tool from Amazon - I checked and this version clamp can be adjusted to do the job perfectly, I'll be doing it this week finally. (Otuayauto QAP001)

Good Video , I may do that on a friend’s car . Some old Vettes are better cared for than others . For a higher mileage driver quality car it’s far better to do this than go without a Functional Gage because of the cost of the repairs. Good idea ,thanks for sharing .!

Thanks ! Im 100% in agree with you ! Some people consider than method like butchering but to me remove all That stuff every 2-3 years is crazy ... The butchering was on the Side of engineer for this sensor location

If you are going to cut to get access to it just install the relocation kit so once you've sealed it up like this you don't have to cut again if it fails in the future.

Yeah its the optimal solution but the relocalisation kit is quitte expensive ... i replace the sensor again since the video and this time it take me only 10minute

I agree with this repair I am the same way why take off manifold big pain in the ass👍
@richardelliott8352

in my case, taking off the manifold was best. It allowed me to clean up the oil that leaked from the sensor failure, plus everything along the air intake and under the manifold. my throttle body and air sensor looked very different after cleaning., so I was glad to return those parts to optimal function with just a spray cleaning. I also found someone had previously omitted replacing the foam blocks under the manifold that prevent water or debris from entering the knock sensor space. I didn't even know such a thing existed until I was puzzling over the pieces included in my new manifold gasket set. I then installed a hose to relocate the oil pressure sensor. Although the labor rate for a mechanic to do this job is about one hour, it took me much longer because I had to learn what I was doing, and then work with the care of an amateur so that I didn't screw anything up through lack of experience. I already had most of the tools needed, but did have to run out and buy a little swivel for the little manifold bolts, and still had to guesstimate torque (11 pounds) on one rear bolt. I wish I had known to take great care to disconnect a small hose from the back of the manifold. In my ignorance I broke this connection, but got some help at the local chevy dealership parts counter where I got a substitute for the odd and discontinued connector.

don’t do this. C&S Corvettes has a video talking abt this problem. he sells an oil pressure sensor relocator. it will move it to the side for easy access. just take the intake manifold off and do some maintenance while you’re in there, adding the relocator.
